Miyamoto: Pikmin 4 in development, "very close to completion"

Awesome!

Pikmin 4 , huh?
Well.. This is out of nowhere... Not complaining. Just.. surprised. Didn't expect that at all.

Hope it is for Wii U. I'm spoilt by the gamepad + wiimote control for Pikmin 3.

Announcement like this makes me start missing directs... :(

That was .. quite the surprise!

At this point, it would make financial sense to develop this for NX and to increase brand awareness. Now which part of NX (if it's two individual systems that link together instead of a one system hybrid) would be interesting. I could forsee a Pikmin that is optimised for a handheld experience on a screen that is larger and has a higher resolution. Then again, if games can be played on the TV from the handheld 'device' this would not matter either.

I'm very interested in how NX game development proceeds.

Thats nice an all, we had no idea about this, and its almost done? Yet Zelda WIi U can't get a proper trailer, and its been announced for several years now.

We already know that the NX isn't a hybrid, so that option is already ruled out.

I hate it! Im sorry, i tried, i swear ive tried.

And now im feeling like you guys with the whole Metroid federation force: why cant they just put the time and money into games I like?

This is nothing like the Metroid Federation Force reveal. Federation Force, from what we can tell, is a bastardization of many people's favorite franchise.

This announcement, as far as we can tell, is the continuation of a very beloved franchise. Unless they announce some strange gimmick or something like that, you can't really compare the two.

In any case, it's a bummer that you don't like the games.

Kensuke Tanabe at E3: "We've not even started a new Metroid LOL, even if we start now it will take YEARS"

Miyamoto 3 months later: "Pikmin? We shit those out for fun, next ones nearly done"

I like Pikmin but fuck Nintendo's priorities.

Miyamoto has passion in Pikmin whereas he's basically unrelated to Metroid. A Pikmin sequel is probably much cheaper and quicker to produce than a new Metroid Prime game. For a new 2D (or pseudo 3D) Metroid, you'd have to ask Sakamoto, though considering Rhythm Heaven, WarioWare and the Tomodachi series being much more successful that Metroid, it seems pretty reasonable that he's been putting it on the backburner

It's truly impossible to go through any Nintendo announcement thread without the game in question being considered to somehow have scuppered Metroid's chances at another entry.

Heck, even Federation Force pulled that off, Metroid screwed Metroid.

Well this was unexpected. Miyamoto's favorite game to work on is back. I enjoyed Pikmin 3 A LOT so I'm happy with this news. On the other hand, the way they confirmed this is quite weird. Has Nintendo confirmed a 1st party game through a random gaming website before? This pretty much tell us that Nintendo Directs are no more, right? :( This could have been an awesome megaton reveal if it was announced in a Direct... Either way Pikmin 3 was amazing and really challenging so I'm looking forward for Pikmin 4.

Do you guys think people who don't buy Wii U will buy NX for Pikmin, Donkey Kong, and Mario? If the game is ready, there isn't really much point in delaying it. Make an up res port if needed.

Nintendo need third parties. Dragon Quest XI as launch title would be great.

Awesome. My four year old is going to be thrilled (as am I), he loves Pikmim. He's been asking if Pikmim 4 is coming out soon a lot over the last 6 months or so and I've had to tell him it would probably be years before it's released.

YES. YES.

Best news I've heard all day.

I wanted a 3DS version but the graphics were so good on Wii U that I can only imagine what an NX version would look like.

This is kinda reminding me of people whining about characters in Smash taking "character slots" of characters that were probably not intended to be in the game anyway.

you should have told that the next game is probably 10 years away
he would be 14 and not give a crap about it

CoD or Pikmin @ 14 lolz

This news almost made me cry of excitement, I did not expect this! I kinda hope it's a spring Wii U game though, since it's close to completion...

Between Pikmin 1 and 3 we had:

Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Metroid: Zero Mission
Classic NES Series: Metroid
Metroid Prime Pinball
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Metroid: Other M

I would say Metroid was a priority.

I really enjoyed Pikmin 3 but I can't say I'm looking forward to this. It took a lot of motivation to get to the point where I was not getting frustrated losing Pikmin. Beautiful game though.

Hopefully it's more like 2 than 3. I just can't get myself to finish 3, while 2 was really, really fun to finish. The lack of a time limit and the dungeon crawling aspect made it so much better.

Aw :) such good news (wasn't aware it has kind of been talked about in the past already). Pikmin 3 is a wonderful game - a real joy to play. I'll be there on day 1 regardless of platform.

Wondering if this is like a Super Mario Galaxy 2, which also came out of nowhere, and is just a bunch of ideas he wanted to put in 3 but couldn't.

This got me to play Pikmin 3 again. The GamePad Stylus controls are surprisingly great (thank god Miyamoto & Co. patched it in). Hopefully this control method stays if the NX Console has a touch screen (& if the NX Handheld has a bottom screen).

If Miyamoto was only saying in January that nothing is set in stone and then said in July that it's close to being done, it makes me think that they're going to reuse some of the assets from Pikmin 3 and it could possibly be a Wii U title, if not cross-gen.

Well, they do need something for the Wii U in 2016. Preferably something effortless to make, but with the potential to bring in millions in sales.
