New gameplay looks fun as hell but it looks like garbage (as it always has) I wonder when Capcom are actually going to update the visuals

Sacrifices have to be made somewhere for the framerate to hold up in multiplayer. When playing I don't think it will be that big of a deal.

For a Monster Hunter with gorgeous graphics on 3DS theres 3G Ultimate

This is one goddamn ugly game. I think it looks worse than even the first PSP game.

It looks like it's in permanent UE3-engine-game-failing-to-load-texture mode. Why did they even bother with normal maps and shaders if they were going to make it look so nasty?

Oh well, I'll wait for the inevitable port to a more capable platform. Yuck.

I like how more fluid character movements appear to be are and there's some crazy ass new monsters and armor designs and terrain elements too. Very exciting! The game could indeed look better, but honestly, MH is one of those franchises that's so much fun, that the quality of it's visuals isn't going to be a deal-breaker to most fans.

On a 3DS screen, at native resolution, and in 3D especially, this is going to look gorgeous. And frankly, I feel the art direction could carry it alone. The autumnal forests, neon green plains, scorched desert -- the use of color is superb. The animation is so fluid, too. I've never really been interested in this series before, but this one has caught my eye for sure.

I dunno, it looks pretty bad in those off-screen videos in the OP, too.

Whats the point of singling out one screenshot when we have impressive looking gameplay videos ? Considering what it is providing and archiving it looks pretty damn impressive....at least in the gameplay videos. Its not the kind of title which will look great in Direct Feed screens or zoomed in trailers...

Listen, we can all find ugly ass screenshots of just about any game.

Look at any video of it. The texture detail is far higher than MH4.

Here's freedom unite

I don't think those are ugly screenshots at all.
PSP Monster Hunter looks good, this looks better.

The textures are probably better on the 3DS, actually. I don't think you're remembering it right. Also has online play. Just saying.

Vita trolls will dislike, as usual.
Apparently so.

Oh god, i feel bad when i think how much better could have been on a vita. :p

You guys remember the good old days when this shit was bannable?

I think it looks worse than even the first PSP game.

Boom.

Also, if anyone wants to know if this is ACTUALLY going to look terrible, why not reduce the size of the video until it's actually the size of the screen you'd be playing on?

Didn't MHP3 at TGS2010 come with English-language placards that had some interesting English names for some of the monsters? Wonder if that's the case here, too.

I think Monster Hunter is one of those franchises where graphics don't deter from the game that much, there are no cinematic sequences or stories to tell so it's just pure gameplay at it's finest.

Obviously looks worse than a N64 game
to PSV fanboys (all 6 of them)
.

In all seriousness it's certainly not a looker, although that was expected given the scope. I think it looks good for what it is and certainly better than the PSP games.

Anyway, when I read about it I thought the new weapon was some hilarious crap but it actually looks quite cool.

Combat seems a lot faster now? Intrigued!
Loved the jumping attack with the gunlance. Seems like they're shaking up the dynamics a bit. Can't wait to see more.

Just thought I should mention it, with all the "sharp" comments at the start of the thread, but this trailer is likely recorded in 3D mode, much like the original trailer, hence the lack of anti-aliasing.

i wish it was the case - there's WAY too much text in MH3G but that maybe a symptom of it coming from a console parent.

However, i think i read on famitsu (?) that MH4 would have the most text for NPCs yet.

I prefer the experience to be as streamlined as possible, but hey... hunting monsters and all that.

I think a lot of the (non-console-fanthing) moaning about the graphics comes from people who just want it to take a bit of a leap. But yeah, it's something that's not going to happen beyond HD treatment on Wii U so fingers well and truly crossed that that pushes out some nice visuals. And of course, 3DS version of 3G looks hot. But when i close my eyes and think of dream games i want it all to be insane top level Capcom badass looking. But as you say, ultimately the graphics don't kill it or make it and the designs have been universally solid (in the mainline, some of the Frontier stuff is a bit.... fruity) and the new armours in particular look lovely.

^ people sure do love female Barioth armor. I can't blame em.

Really? More NPC text? I typically ignored readingit in MH Tri. Then I made the mistake of hooking up the Wii to a small SDtv and my eyes started to hurt from squinting so much to make out the letters.

can't wait.
I'll play hundreds of hours with Tri Ultimate on Wiiu/3DS, waiting for this.
Very good news (also for the hopes of localization) the online and chat implementations.
I like this game a lot both visually and gameplay-wise.

With it having online play a western release should be guaranteed, unless MH3U totally bombs over here.

Man this game looks so rough on the 3DS makes me really wish they will do an improved 4G for the WiiU.
