Most disturbing characters in all gaming?

Zelda Skyward Swords' Ghirahim - by a long shot:

second would be Metroid Prime in MP1.

Nah, I found Zant to be way more disturbing.

They're kind of opposites, really. When you first meet Ghirahim, he's creepy and insane, but gets more serious towards the end. When you first meet Zant, he seems really serious and intimidating before revealing the fact he's batshit insane.

Nahh man.. Really is Ghirahim for me. His "femme" shape is what scares the shit outta me. It just makes me uncomfy as fuck.

Can't see all the images at work, but has anyone posted those weird creatures from FFXIV: ARR... I think they resemble sheep, white and fluffy, but they have strange human eyes if you look close...

Does anyone know what they're called?

Freaky as shit.

That sure is a fancy hat, but take it away and all you have left is a boring muscular guy. A generic slasher villain in a game filled with more interesting, more disturbing monster designs.

Y'what? He's scary because the encounters with him are impeccably designed. It's a perfect example of how the look of a character doesn't matter – it's how the creators use the character in level/game design which is paramount. Tell me you didn't crap yourself when (serious encounter spoilers)
he suddenly walks out on the rooftop from behind you, with that perfectly placed camera angle, and you panic madly for a few seconds before he chucks you off? Or when you go into the museum and see a load of realistic paintings - one of them with him incongruously standing in the middle. James's caption: '... It's him.' Just genius.
It's like how the scariest characters in movies are often the least grotesque ones - eg the father in Pan's Labirynth

For some reason, killing off hundreds of clones, some of which were previously me, was very unsettling

Excellent point - but it isn't the character who's disturbing, is it?

Senran Kagura .Some really disturbing imagery of morbid, freakish, Freudian psycho-monsters.

Congrats OP for your choice of I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream :) I've only read the novel, thought.

Pretty much everyone in BioShock. That game just had such an unsettling atmosphere. The actor guy and the plastic surgeon were particularly disturbing.

Dead Hands from Ocarina of Time is pretty messed up too.

Your Gods hate you and actively try to come up with inventive ways to wipe you out...that's the most depressing shit I've ever seen.

Sounds like me when I was kid and playing the original Sim City. You think the taxes are too high, eh? Giant monster attack it is then.

So my contribution to the thread would be "any nine year old playing Sim City"

ReDeads always scared the shit out of me when I was younger, but the ones in Wind Waker are the worst. That scream!

Agreed, I was shocked to see them in such a cute game! Genuinely scary and I hate the way Link trembles like that.

For my own contribution - not the creepiest by a long shot but he hasn't been mentioned yet - Seymour from FFX.

His veins and that strange tearing on his torso, combined with his weirdly soft Winnie the Pooh voice just made me really uncomfortable as a teenager :(

Lisa: The Painful RPG is filled with almost nothing but disturbing characters and I reccommend it wholeheartedly.

Here's my favorite achievement from the game, for those who have played it.

There are a TON in Zelda -- many mentioned in this thread already. I'm actually pretty surprised by that. The Zelda characters are more unsettling to me in general than the legit horror game ones. Who would have thought?

Poison Headcrabs from Half Life 2.

I know they can't kill you, still doesn't stop me from going on a shooting spree as soon as I hear one.

Listen to this!!!

I don't know if they can be called a character, but I hate them so much that doesn't matter :(

The Aristocrats in Rule of Rose are disturbing in a non-gory way

latest

A bunch of kids bullying a grown woman... In some disturbing ways :I

Just out of curiosity- did you play through Rule of Rose in its entirety?

Adult Jennifer
was never actually physically tormented by the kids. She's traumatized by childhood events & dealing with repressed memories, but yeah, it makes it even more unnerving IMO imagining that stuff happening to a little kid.

Hoffman was a dirty old
pedophile
& Gregory (aka
StrayDog
was faaaaaaaar more disturbing than the Aristocrats, though.
The whole story of RoR, once it all reveals itself, is just terribly tragic & disturbing. :(

My personal entry for this thread would be the lovely Piggsy, from the first Manhunt.

Nothing too deep or mysterious about him- just a violent psychopath that wears a hollowed-out pig head for a mask & makes pig noises. He inhabits a dark, nasty, rotting house, waiting for the next contestant to dismember with his chainsaw.
Oh yeah- he also doesn't wear clothes.

The Piggsy fight in Manhunt was one of the most tense moments I've had in any game. This maniac's disturbing nature made this a horrifyingly memorable fight.
