2ghz p4, 256mb ram (i know, i know), 9600xt.

i got my 9600xt in the mail today and i finally got around to installing it and i ran 3dmark05 and my system scored a 1450. is that good? all the tests were running between 1-10fps and i even though my ram is extremely low i figured it'd be better than that?

will i be able to run the new games?

edit: there was no sound playing at all, should there have been? and i downloaded the latest ati drivers before doing the test.

i just tried playing the medal of honor pacific assault demo...

1024x768
texture detail high
model detail medium
hardware shaders 2.0

it took about 5 minutes to load, and it ran choppy. does this sound right or is there something wrong?

The P4 should run Pacific Assault just fine, but you need more ram.

[edit]Min req for the demo:

* Windows XP or Windows 2000
* 1.5 GHz Intel Pentium IV or AMD Athlon processor
* 512 MB RAM
* 3D video card with 64+ MB video memory which fully supports DirectX 8.1
* At least 1GB free space on your hard drive

Yea that sounds about right. 256Mb of ram is brutal. You will need at least 512 to play most modern games.

Why the 9600XT? How much did you pay for that if you don't mind me asking?

i got the AIW 9600xt through work for $130. i could have gotten the AIW 9800 pro for $180 but with christmas and bills i decided to go with the 9600xt.

3dmark05 is mostly a gpu test.

i get 5950 with my pc at stockspeeds and default bios settings, and 6200 with overclock and optimized timings/settings/drivers.

its all about your graphics card, and tuning your system helps little

i believe an 9600 has 4 pipes so 1500 seems about right.
(ive got an x800xt witch has 16 pipes)
