I am not weirded out by it, to me its like having an imaginary friend when you grow up. They basically treat these dolls like they are real people. Its not just a fleshlight for them. Again this was in the documentary I saw.

I just meant eventually humanity is going to transition into a virtual and/or android existence.

The concept of "sex" will survive that transition, probably will for some time, as those who undergo the transition will retain the sexual urges and cultural conditioning hard-wired in their brains when they are uploaded or copied. People will be fucking androids, VR simulations of other people (who are themselves either fully virtual or just experiencing the simulation), etc.

Beyond that, once there is a way to simulate the human brain, you can procedurally generate "artificial" humans who never have had a human body. And they will probably have sex with "real" humans in whatever environment they are in, because they will retain traces of those functions from within the biological human brain.

Japan is honestly kind of a shit country, beyond being fastidiously clean and generally friendly.

Actually, it's just kind of shit to grow up and live there. Being a tourist or foreign resident is great. The schools are awful environments for kids (too much pressure, horrible bullying, etc.) and adult life is completely draining due to crazy culture surrounding work (you "work" long hours even if it means you aren't working, barely see your family), and people who don't fit in face crazy amounts of pressure.

Otaku and hikkimori and this sort of thing are completely understandable to me - they need escape.

I know someone who grew up half-American/half-Japanese in Japan - she told me horror stories about the shit she went through, up to being stabbed in the chest, about 1 cm from her heart, by a bully.

It soured me completely on the Japanese HS thing in anime - I can kind of enjoy Persona (3 and 5 much moreso than 4, because their schools are kind of fucked up), but anything else with a happy-go-lucky HS with wacky hijinx just turns my stomach when I think of her stories.
