N-GAF Eve Online Corp Part Deux

For those getting into the game, I would really recommend using the custom jukebox and use the Tron Legacy soundtrack with EVE Online. It goes so well.

I don't think it's suitable for any display. I'm going to have to buy a Mr. Peanut monocle just to read what the fuck is happening on the screen. Shouldn't this be an easy fix for them?

Thought I would post my cardinal rules for EVE. Feel free to add to them. They're always worth restating.

1. Always have an up to date clone.
2. Always insure your ships.
3. Never fly what you cannot afford to lose and replace.
4. Never trust anyone. Or trust but verify.
5. Bigger ships does not equal better ships.
6. Do not fear death or ship loss.
7. Use EVEMon.
8. Read the beginner guide - http://www.isktheguide.com/
9. You'll never be the best.

Not really a rule but its a very good idea to have a goal and then plan the skills out. Its very easy to get distracted by new and shiny skills. If you do you'll have a character not very good at any one thing which will impact your overall performance. However, plan how you want to, have fun, see rule 9.

I'm docked in Arnon, and probably will be for awhile, so let me know if you guys want to mission together. I'm in EVE University right now. It might be wise for N-GAF to set up a Non-Agression Pact with us.
I applied there. I hope I get accepted... but I ran out of roam on the application before I even finished. I talk too much =[

Incarna in 4 days! Now is a good time to jump in if you haven't!

EVE Online: Incarna 1.0 is scheduled for deployment during an extended downtime on Tuesday, June 21. Downtime will begin at 05:00 UTC and is expected to be completed by 19:00 UTC.

Incarna 1.0 features Captain's Quarters - the first step towards opening the interiors of space stations for players; the new graphics and animations for ship turrets; and the new Noble Exchange store offering new and exciting goods. The new players will now embark on their journey in EVE Online guided by completely revamped tutorials and the familiar voice of Aura, while the new agent finder and corporation recruitment tools will make life easier for all pilots.

Sexy new turret animations:

Yeah, I'm really excited for Incarna. Later on, we'll be able to walk in stations. I wonder if they'll make cities on planets for us to traverse, eventually? It would be cool if some missions required you to get out of your ship every now and then.

Pretty sure they'll receive a visual upgrade, eventually.

EDIT: Is Incarna rolling out the new nebulae as well? Not sure if CCP has said anything about it.

Also, here's a nice video showing off a hefty variation of turrets. The video is almost seven minutes long. (Video)

Shall I wait until Tuesday to start my new account up, or get ahead of the game today or tomorrow? Waiting for new tutorials may be the better plan, but I'm not sure.

Either way I'll need an invite for the 21-day trial and would like to split the cost of the PLEX so I have a decent bit of capital to start with.

I can send you an invite, PM your email to me.

Gallente sucks and Hybrids have been terrible for a while now, you'd be better training Minmatar or Amarr. Interceptors are PvP only ships so I wouldn't rush into one unless you're going to use it.

What would be the best way to transfer my minimal amount of wealth from my current trial to a new account? It says in one of the FAQs that trial accounts can't transfer money to other players or use the contract system, but it does seem like you could trade goods somehow. I have about 4 million ISK I'd like to keep.

Would I just buy ships or something and give those to one of you to hold on to and sell back later, or is there a better way?

If I'm missing something let me know - or is 4 mil ISK not even worth it?

And apparently...CD Keys don't count for getting the PLEX via the buddy program - I'd have to buy another month (or use PLEX) for that to work. Doh. Though this does mean if the person who invited me gets me a PLEX to use, I would get an extra month time for free without costing them anything.

Too late. I already went gallente after figuring I didn't want caldari for inteceptor. And yes, i'd be using it for pvp only.

Actually the gallente interceptor, the taranis, is perhaps the best solo interceptor. Check out a blaster 'ranis fit on battleclinic if you can.

edit: Seems as good a place as any to show off my newest aquisition. She's beautiful :)

That ISK guide pdf is so big, that my work PC runs out of memory.

Good stuff inside, but I think it's more advanced than beginners... unless... this is just the BEGINNING!

It definitely lags when scrolling through it for me, and I've been using Preview to look at it which is far lighter than Adobe Reader.

Ah, I got an idea. On your new account, set the fee to send mail to you to 1 Million (Or Maybe less so you can transfer all your money in 5 transactions, just do the math to find a good number)

Then just send a few messages to the new account, pay the super high fee, and done. (Make sure to lower the amount after words, and do a double check to make sure you really get the money)

Pretty sure the fee to send mail is only a spam deterrent - the money vaporizes into the nether as the cost and the receiving account doesn't get anything.

That sucks. I guess it is one way Eve sucks up excess ISK.

I guess the other option is to buy a bunch of an item (Maybe Ammo?), eject it, have a friend take it (I guess you should abandon it too just before he takes the stuff, but I don't know if it is really needed), goto the other account, and just have him give it back. Then ether use your large sums of ammo, or resell it.

I'd love to get a Mach, the skillplan I made for a year ends with Gall. and Min. BS 5 to have a pretty much perfect Mach. But I'd be too scared to use it in PvP.

Had one of he best subcap fleet battles last night, was awesome and they've really cleaned up the lag since I last played. They took down the Cyno Jammer in the end and dropped like 5 Titans on us so we just left.

Training Logi V sucks so hard =(

Thats part of the Captains Quarters Patch that is supposed to hit next week. Not sure how he got a shot of his ship via it though, maybe the Beta Version.

Is this from EVE?

Yes indeed, that's a Machariel, a pirate battleship (amazing both for missioning and pvp, although too expensive for most to use in pvp). That's the view you'll have of your ships while docked once incarna launches.

Had an interesting experience this evening, actually getting together with a couple guys to help out with a tough npc in one of the epic mission arcs. Was cool to actually cooperate even if it was for a single npc kill; the experience left at a bit of a loss however, as--and no offense of any kind is intended to the guys I ran with--the encounter was actually extremely easy if approached with a properly fit ship.

The guys are in the typical mode for people new to the game--just kind of stick whatever sounds cool onto your ship, leading to a laser/missile moa that couldn't crack a cruiser rat with a nosferatu on it.

I'm not sure what to say about it. Explaining the 'proper' fitting I mentioned in terms of pve can turn the experience into a risk free minmaxing equation about most dps with least tank to keep you alive until you've melted everything. To my mind as a fairly experienced player, that's the only answer, the obvious answer. But is that really a better gaming experience than calling on friends to finally take down a powerful enemy that's been giving you the fight of your life? I don't know, but I also treat the mission running part of eve purely as a means to an end. Just not really sure.

Going back to my early days, the early fun was trying to make money to get into the next awesome looking ship, and part of making that happen, especially once you get past the lowest level missions, is ensuring that a certain set of qualities do in fact show up in your setups.

So for now I'll just say of tonight's experience, with a nostalgic smile on my face, that you're doing it 'wrong' but that's totally fine, and I'll help if you ask but otherwise I'll butt out. Until pvp time, at least, then my ass is on the line based on what the people with me are doing :)

i'm first to admit i've got a long way to go, i'm not up to that fight myself yet so it will be interesting to see how it goes solo at some point. i honestly just stuck what i could afford (and have skills to use) on the destroyer.

Again, no intention to criticize, it's just hard to return to that point as a player mentally when I've been in eve for 2.5 years.

As far as both money and advice is concerned I'm happy to offer, though there's of course a ceiling on the isk :)

Also worth mentioning, on the off chance anyone reading this thread who would be interested wouldn't know already, the finals of eve's annual alliance tournament is being broadcast this weekend. I believe the start time is 8:00 am PST on Saturday and Sunday; the Saturday rounds are the last of the group rounds to decide which 16 teams make it to Sunday's finals bracket. It might be kind of tough to get into for people brand new to the mechanics and terminology of the game, not to mention the reputations of all the alliance names involved, but its a pretty fun production, with live commentary from well known and experienced players.

don't stress, no offence taken :) i feel the same way when i'm watching people new to games that i know inside and out. i'll probably pick your brains for advice in the future but as for ISK that's building up fine by itself. when i said "what i could afford" what i really meant was "i am a cheapskate who is saving his monies until he better knows what to spend it on" ;)

Until recently I couldn't afford one either. After making a decent income for a couple of years in 0.0 doing exploration, I got bored and decided the pirates/reds seemed to be having more fun than me, so I reinvented myself. I left my alliance and headed for the curse region, pirate faction NPC 0.0 and started missioning there, which was exciting and challenging because everybody there wants to kill you. On the upside, Angel Cartel loyalty points are crazy. 2 missions out there gets me a Dramiel blueprint. 4-6 a Cynabal. I've literally never had so much money in my life. I used to wonder how pirates could afford to fly these things all the time and now I know.

For someone relativly new to the game, (which I realise you're not if you're training logi V) I highly recommend the very second you can fly an interceptor, doing the Angel Cartel Epic pirate arc, and it's aimed at young players: http://lorebook.eve-inspiracy.com/guides/Angel_Epic_Arc_guide_by_Jowen_Datloran_v0.9.pdf

Although they are level 3 missions they are balanced for being run in an interceptor, solo or in a small gang. Because you'll need a fast ship like that to get around Curse without the residents introducing you to hard vacuum.

Not only is it a lot of fun, and very exciting, but if you survive it you'll make a nice few hundred million isk for a relativly short time investment. And if you don't you'll have fun and an interceptor is very cheap to lose. It'd also be a great thing to do as a group. Oh and the reward is a Cynabal blueprint and a ton of Angel Pirate faction which sets you up perfectly for living the life of a pirate out in curse...

Hrmm this pirate stuff sounds exactly what I want to do (hell I got inteceptor trained already, just not the skills/money to back it up). So how do you start, and how far should I be along before I do it? Does that mean you can never enter concord space again?

No not at all. Your empire factions do take a small hit, but I'm talking a change of as little as 0.2, so it's negligible. Doing missions regularly for pirates does, over time, have a small impact on your empire standings, but just doing one or two missions in hi-sec every few months is enough to compensate for that.

Also gone now are the days where you could irrevocably damage a standing. All level 1 quality 0 agents will now talk to anybody, making repairing your standing with anybody possible no matter what you've done.

I might try the Gurista arc sometime, someone in my corp was saying they make a few billion a week running Gurista missions.

The trouble with the Guristas arc is it's quite deep in 0.0 space. To get there I think you have to go through at least one region of 0.0 to get to Guristas npc space. This is currently a war ravaged region, the previous sov holders having just been kicked out. It's certainly doable, but you'll need your wits about you and experience crashing gate camps.

By comparison the Angel arc is a bit of lo-sec space and then you're in Curse. It's only perhaps 12 jumps maximum back to Hi-Sec at any time.

Both are fun though, and both are rewarding. But the Cynabal blueprint from angels is worth far more than the Gila blueprint from the Guristas, although the Gila is a very nice ship.

I'm in the area just now anyway so it's much easier to do then get a character all the way over into Curse, I tend to do Incursions for ISK at the moment (works out around 100m/hr) and they're much safer than flying around NPC 0.0

So question, what will be the relation between Dust GAF and Eve GAF? Will there be two different corps? Will we all fold into one corp?

Goonswarm has it most interesting. lol

Edit: Sooooo, if I take my badger with all my stuff to the GAF station, would I be blown up by Lisbaetanne gankers?

I went in and out of that station a few times, even with super slow ships barely armed without problem, but YMMV.

So my subscription is ending in 2 days so I went ahead and extended my game time for another 3 months. Really enjoyed my time with the game and I hope to see more gaffers soon.

Doing the Sisters of EVE epic quest. If anyone is around, add me.

Are you guys even that active? I haven't touched Eve for over two years and don't have the urge to get back to mining day and night while gazing at the Fenrir parked in the station.
