That's what I thought, but it appears it adds a new 'gamer' every time someone uploads data/checks into near. Ie. multiple times per person. So it's probably more like 5-6 people in the area instead of 40.I love near. It's the "oh wow there are more gamers in my neighborhood than I thought" app.
i recently got 2 costumes from near for UMVC 3 the costumes were for a hulk and nova and they we gold platted
Great tip! I work near (not at, sadly) the Twitter main office at Folsom & 4th ST, I've gotten quite a few hits near there too. I typically get 50+ hits per Near scrub. At home I average closer to 25 - 40 depending on the time of day and all. I hope it only increases.BTW, if you are in SF, head down to Embarcadero, a bunch of the game websites (1UP, GameSpot, IGN) and some of the game companies (Ubi ... can't think of who else, but I know there are a few?) are within that area between Market and AT&T Park.
You're probably matching plenty as it is in a big city, but you'll see specific StreetPass or Near activity as you head down to like the stadium.
You probably saw this on Twitter if you follow me, but some guy on my Near only has Welcome Park, Facebook and Netflix for Vita. I checked the guy's trophies and he only has 2 games, Call of Duty World At War and some NBA2K game. A total of 3 trophies.
What the hell is this guy doing?!

I'm just going by the names actually shown, not the count. It's still more than I expected around here! That's what I thought, but it appears it adds a new 'gamer' every time someone uploads data/checks into near. Ie. multiple times per person. That makes no sense then why buy a vita.
Nice! Yeah I've still found a few people to add to friend lists, some Wipeout challenges etc. Really cool.I'm just going by the names actually shown, not the count. It's still more than I expected around here!
How the hell do you just pull up the radar?
So I was out again...this time when I was at another location I turned my Vita on, played some Stardust. Didn't go into near.
When I went home and went back to near, it picked up that location. Found several people there.
It didn't pick up any locations in between though. Just the one I had it turned on in.
So maybe it is something about how you put it in standby? Tomorrow I'll try without explicitly putting it to standby.
In my home location it still doesn't show any avatars though. In the other location it shows 9 or 10...I can't imagine my home location is so different.
If I share my profile do people just see my PSN profile info or do they get my location aswell? It's very specific so I'd prefer to avoid that.
Only 15 people around my area (Northern Ireland).
But 2 of them have added me as friends - So i suppose its working as it should...unless they plan to murder me
Y U NO WORK, NEAR :|
I'm pretty convinced that on my unit, at least, near won't pick up locations if the unit is on standby. Tried today to let it go on standby on its own i.e. I didn't put it on standby, and still, it picked up no new locations while I was out.
I've only managed to get it to pick up one other location so far, yesterday, and I had my Vita on at that location. Helluva coincidence...
Is ANYONE picking up locations while their Vita is on standby? DBT85 says so, but I wonder...might your Vita still have been on by the time you got to the post office, after Tesco? It'll stay on for a few minutes depending on your settings.
Maybe I'll get rid of my privacy zone for the moment and see what happens.
It's going into standby now so that it's definitely done. According to the online manual Near looks for a location every 30 minutes or so and if it's changed it logs it. It will only automatically update Near with all of yoru locations once a day on it's own.
PlayStation Home is popular beyond belief. They really should bring it to PS Vita.Yeah, I s'pose. I just assumed it went by "proximity" and "games played". Can't think of any other way.
Home is good, maybe even great, at bringing folk together in concept. I haven't used it in a while and don't know any stats about it but have assumed in terms of total PS3 users that those that do use it to socialise are in a small minority. Please do correct me if you know different though.
i wonder how this is created. based on what information. is it cumulative and it's still tracking other people i met? or just actual numbers based on my location and radius.

Well the range is from the 22nd to the 25th, so I'm assuming it's commulative, at least for that period.
haha. i'm so dumb. didn't notice your post. ;Pyeah i noticed that now. hence why i replied to myself. ;P One of the person who added me invited me to a vita party chat. donotwant.
Ok, I have a report to file.
My Vita was in user forced standby (pressed power button) on my entire drive home. It sat on my passenger seat all the way home and was definitely in standby.
Near recorded my locations at 18:39 (still at work), 19:09 (Just left work), and 19:50 when I turned it on when I walked in.
So my vita is DEFINITELY getting location data when in user enforced standby.
I've looked at the locations (click on the address near tells you and it will bring up a locator on Google Maps) and they are all accurate and more importantly, different.
I will note that near was running when I put it to standby. Tomorrow on the way to work I will make sure that I put it into standby and that Near is not running. On the way home I'll let it go into standby with Near not running.
Hope that's helpful.
Also, I have x 41 at my home and can see 12 IDs within 5km.
What the hell is this guy doing?!
There we go, this guy just wants a Netflix streaming device! Though the choices in which to get is pretty impractical. You probably saw this on Twitter if you follow me, but some guy on my Near only has Welcome Park, Facebook and Netflix for Vita.
