Still need to watch pretty much everything that was nominated for the Oscars, I'm expecting American Hustle, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Gravity to find a place on the list. Still need to watch the Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug as well.

Ok so is Mud 2012 or 2013? I need a ruling.

I go by the year a film is in general release in the US, which is why Maniac and The Battery are on my list. Most people don't even realize that Frances Ha is also a 2012 film, too, and that's shown up quite a bit.

I still have a ton of movies to watch before I make a list.

If I wanted to see 12 Years a Slave before voting ends, I'm pretty much screwed, right?

I only ever go by actual theatrical runs and disregard festivals myself, in which case Mud is 2013.

A quick look at IMDB says that the only 2012 screenings Mud even had were at Cannes and another French festival.

Damn, both Her and 12 Years a Slave are being released after the voting ends. That's rough :(

About Mud, the movie got its wide release in the US in 2013. So even in the US it's a 2013 movie.

Actually, I would think that it's going to be a nice boost in screens next weekend, to capitalize on the Oscar hype.

All right I'm going Mud 2013. It's just that actual critics all have it on last years list.

Yeah, these guys visit all the festivals like Cannes and Sundance so they probably see a lot of screenings of movies long before the big crowd can see them. The Place Beyond the Pines had a similar release story.

  4. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

5. Before Midnight
6. Pacific Rim
7. Her

9. The World's End
10. Saving Mr. Banks

Still need to see Inside Llewyn Davis, but I think its mostly settled. The top spot was a complete come out of nowhere shot in the heart for me. It's really nothing that you assume it is. Go in blind, and you'll somehow find exactly what you're looking for.

1. Gravity
2. 42
3. The Croods
4. Star Trek Into Darkness
5. Thor: The Dark World
6. Iron Man 3
7. Despicable Me 2
8. Oblivion
9. Pacific Rim
10. Monsters University

Coincidentally I watched ten films in 2013 but I would have liked to have seen more.

1) Gravity
2) The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
3) Django Unchained (It came out in January 2013 here in the UK - seems like bloody ages ago.)
4) Iron Man 3
5) Pacific Rim
6) Star Trek Into Darkness
7) The World's End
8) Man of Steel
9) Kick-Ass 2
10) Oblivion (It probably wouldn't be here if I'd seen more but visually it was excellent.)

I missed out on Captain Phillips and Thor 2. Hopefully I'll catch 12 Years A Slave and The Wolf of Wall Street at some point.
