Staying skeptical for the time being. Fully expecting ffxv combat. Menu feels a lot like "put the word atb in there, it doesn't even have to do anything. Everyone will eat it up."

FFXV doesn't have the command menu.
It's more like KH

Also
Character switching
No friendly fire and due to the structure of the story you will play as different characters.

I am not getting these comparisons.

Looks at early development and since the announcement they just showed the same areas
Yep, it's a Nomura game

People complain about SE, but Nomura is the biggest problem. Just compare how Tabata was always doing interviews, making videos to talk about the game and even released two demos of FF XV
And then just at this or even Kingdom Hearts 3. This one at least has the excuse of being announced at the end of 2015, but KH 3 will make his 4th anniversary during the E3

But it literally says in the OP SE wouldn't allow him to show us the video footage, what is he expected to do?

Well, Nomura did say it was early when they announced KH3. Publishers do this to drive up console interest for the most part to increase the install base. Besides, people complained Tabata was wasting time with the ATR and that he should get back to work.. Nomura remains silent and everyone loses their minds. At least Nomura doesn't fall prey of feedback like tabata. Am I defending Nomura? No, it's just that SE is very disorganized.

When something gets announced at e3 at least from SE don't expect it to release anytime soon.

You just made your own point. VII had different camera angles for each scene which conveyed a different mood and really showed off the bizarre world we were visiting. Remake on the other hand has this bland Unreal Engine look to everything, it's no longer unique like the original game or pushing any boundaries.

Can you look at the shots in the OP and think they'll do justice to the Honeybee Inn or the dolphin scene in Junon?

This location (nuclear reactor/facility) isn't supposed be anything but bland tbh.

If the sections that are supposed to be colorful or unique, like the church, Aeris' house or Nibelheim look bland though, that's something to be concerned about.

"wtf is that IQ on this in-development screenshot?"

"CROUCHING BEHIND A BOX!? Why the fuck did they put cover in this game omfg no direction at all"

"Action game? It's gonna be shit, why can't they just regress 17 years and do ATB ? For fucks sake "

"Nomura blah blah Time blah blah Tabata blah blah 2099"

"not real probably fake target render this development such a mess they should have stuck with [ X engine or Y developer ]"

"Final Fantasy is dead"

"All my worst fanatical fears confirmed, I can finally just forget this stupid game, but i'll be back to bitch in the next thread"

This is a Final Fantasy XV thread with a filter thrown over it. Right down...to people actually bashing XV itself. This is astounding.

Looking sweet as hell. From the looks of it, I'm assuming it would play like a mix of XV and Kingdom Hearts. I just hope that it gets the latter's (from what I've read about 0.2, anyway) supposedly better camera.

Might be that L1 and R1 are used to switch between characters? And it's been too long since I played VII, but was there ever a "Materia" option in the battle menus? Wouldn't that be just the same as "Magic?"

Pretty excited about the mix of versus/kh/with a pinch of XV combat thrown in all with character switching. And the command menu is a plus for me. Only thing I kinda miss from XV.

Looks excellent :) I want a tifa trailer SE!

also, can't have a remake thread without people having to invent ways to attack nomura even when content comes out just to restart the tabata versus nomura circle jerk. Jesus, this fandom is so toxic.

If you go into this project hoping for it to fail so you can laugh about how much you hate a director or a company, your doing it wrong.

This looks like FFXV aka one of the worst FFs.

That plus the fact the game won't be out for years AND segmented means FFVII Remake is a clusterfuck

I. Need. This. In. My. Veins. Right. NOW.

Show me something new outside of Midgar please.

I'm a horrible person for trying to parse out so much from a single battle picture. First, ATB! Thank you sweet jesus for not another raw action game.

Those position markers are encouraging. People forget that in the 'ol days of VII we had front/back row. There seem to be 6 spots characters can occupy and you probably set up your party of 3's (I assume) default formation in menus. Various enemy attacks would have different area effects.

Still many vibes from Versus and that's not a bad thing.

This is my most anticipated game alongside last of us pt 2 and death stranding. Screens look really good. I'm just so excited to see the other cast and locations.

I don't think the ATB gauge works the same way it did in the original ff7

Damn right. TLOU2, Spider-Man, FF7R, KH3 and Death Stranding are my top 5, with God of War, Cyberpunk 2077, Shenmue 3 and Persona 5 close behind. What a time to be alive.

Uh didnt Nomura state that the combat system is somewhere between KH and Dissidia?

I think it works inversly actually. You can do actions until it's filled up and when it does, it'll slowly cool down before you can do new actions.

Kinda like the Dark Souls stamina meter, where it'll recharge faster if you don't deplete it completely

Oh that would be kinda neat.

Ha ha oh wow
Square Enix have made plenty of fun-to-play action RPGs, that's unarguable. Lightning Returns does have a great action-y combat system. That's about the only good thing about the game, in addition to its OST. Otherwise it's a mess. FFXV's combat can also be enjoyable, though flawed and has some weaker moments. Many consider Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix to be one of the top action RPGs.

So "ha ha oh wow" back to you.

Does the atb meter at the bottom indicate that attacks are on cooldowns? A sort of combination of xv's action oriented gameplay and the traditional atb system?

the moment i saw the screenshots, FF VII opening soundtrack started playing in my mind, god, the hype, the nostalgia, these memories.... the mako reactor, you know this game is awesome when u are excited by looking at two fucking screenshots. take my moneyyyyyyyyyyyyyy anyway will ite be a ps4 + PC exclusive or a ps4 first then pc later?

I think it's timed exclusive for PS4 then it's comes to everything else after. Dunno if it applies after all the parts are release or with just every single one.

Anyways screenshots look cool, even if we don't see the game for while it looks nice still.

Hey guys, Switch supports UE4 and this is built in UE4... Nintendo, you better have started talks with Squenix.

At this point, this single screenshot is enough to make me hard

Give me
I just told my wife that I suddenly wanted to be somewhere private so I can touch myself and she said, "Wow, that looks really lifelike."

Seriously though, give me some gameplay video now!

I'm actually absurdly happy that they seem to be going the Command Menu route with the combat system. Maybe we'll finally get what Final Fantasy Versus XIII was supposed to be, gameplay wise.

I'm obviously cautious, but screens like these give me a lot of hope. I can't wait.

Show me something new outside of Midgar please.

Midgar will probably make up a large part of the first game. Midgar was a substantial part of the original. So many plot points happen and we're introduced to to over half the cast there.

I think we'll get All of Midgar and maybe the Kalm flashback as the first game. 2nd game will probably be the bulk of the adventure, Junon, cosmo canyon, Rocket town, Temple of the ancients etc.

Big current gen AAA RPGs take years to be developed. This is not news nor is it the fault of Nomura nor is it a "problem" exclusive to SQEX. Horizon's development started in 2011, don't expect to see Cyberpunk until, like, 2018, Scalebound had been in development for over 3,5 years by the time it was cancelled (and obviously nowhere near finished), Deus Ex Human Revolution was released in 2011 and Mankind Divided in 2016, Mass Effect Andromeda has been in some level of development since 2012. Big games take longer than ever to develop and the growing requirements of development are to blame in most cases (with some additional game specific issues often rising & prolonging development due to different aims, features, level of developer expertise etc.)

Why some people have such huge issues knowing a game exists I will never understand. That's your problem, not publishers', so long as they are commited to the completion of development of the games they announce.

Cover system ? Come on

I feel it's just a small tactical part of the game, but in no way determinative of the overall direction. If I were them, I'd make it so that the character, depending on the number of enemies, blocks a certain number of bullets automatically with their weapon, giving you enough warning time that you need to enter cover quickly or be torn apart. Depending on how many shots are in the enemy's gun, or the rate of itre, the player can then bolt from cover and take out the target.

Maybe they have a progression system where you gain a gradually improved ability to automatically deflect and protect yourself from gun wielding enemies. For example, as you progress, maybe you can automatically defend for a small period of time against a certain number, and specific types, of enemies. I think that would work wonderfully. Add something cool to the gameplay identity while also making it mean something as far as progression is concerned . Damn, I wish I designed games. :

Nah. First game has to end at Midgar, with the last shot being outside Midgar's walls, looking out to the world. It's a natural climax point.

It must be incredibly obvious to Square: the next big trailer will officially debut the Remake look of one of the most popular videogame heroines of all time and the single most anticipated character reveal.

And also Aerith. For like, the people who like her, I guess.

Cait Sith would have been just as acceptable, but okay.

kidding.

half-kidding

Just like FFVIIR itself.

Yea you're probably right, but I kinda think they'd want to give us a taste of the world map.

I'm viewing this like a trilogy. The 2nd game would have to be huge as far as content goes. I'd imagine the 3rd game would have to be a lot of end game stuff. Cloud in the lifestream etc.

Gotta love fragmented hype building by square. Little here little there.. the 30th opening ceremony continues to be a missed opportunity

That command menu is a good sign that this will be more KH than FFXV as far as combat. Which to me is the greatest blessing. FFXV combat can do go die in a fire.

You COULD have the second game last till aeriths death or cloud ending in a coma. There's a lot of fluff you can trim around certain parts, particularly around the busy work to get cloud back up and running, the huge materia etc.

I wonder if they'll bring back enemy-skill materia. Collecting all those broken spells was the funnest part of the original.

Edit: Original post responded to a page one post that wasn't relevant to the thread topic.

Just hoping progress is coming along decently for the game. If we were awaiting completion of the entire game I'd probably have to ignore this to quell any possible excitement for a game looking to not arrive anytime soon, but I have an ounce of hope knowing that Square only needs to produce a fraction of the game before we get something to play.

Excitement level risen a slight notch.
