TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
I really hope this controls at least as well as Saint's Row. It would be a shame to waste all of these cool improvements on a fundamentally flawed game. Note that I've only played the GTA games on PS2 and Xbox. I've heard the PC versions had better controls from some people.

If getting rid of Ammu-Nation means that I no longer have to visit and buy my shit all over again everytime I get arrested or die, then I'm all for that. I want to be able to keep the weapons I bought or pick up and not have to go through that unnecessary step.
There definitely better be a weapons closet of some sort this time around. They're making all these realistic changes it sounds silly to have all your heavy weapons on you at all times. It was because of this that all the neat-o taxi features were pretty much worthless since I would just reload the game to keep my weapons.

Ammu-Nation being gones sounds pretty stupid to me though, an out in the open heavy firepower weapons shop really fit in the game's very cynical and sarcastic world. I can understand the paynsprays sort of, but I always thought buying guns from the store was alot more fun than buying them from characters.

I know this is a little off topic here but like I said I've been trying to play Vice City again after I completed San Andreas for the umpteenth time and I gotta say that the game is nearly unplayable anymore. The game is so unbelievably broken that I don't know how the hell I was able to put up with it for as long as I did back then. The controls are absolutely retarded....Shenmue level retarded......and the entire city layout is one gigantic boring mess. As bad as the shooting elements in SA are, they're exponentially better than VC (and GTAIII) simply for the fact that you can aim somewhat with the right stick. And water = instant death? Get the **** outta here.

How anyone could like Vice City over San Andreas is beyond me. VC is nothing but a broke game over an amazing soundtrack. It does make me appreciate SA even more though and it gives me hope that Rockstar will be able to make the same jump in quality going from SA to GTA4 like they did with VC to SA.

Im with you. Love San Andreas - its my favourite of the series and my favourite game last gen. In my opinion the controls were as good as they could have been - they just worked. Vice City was a very enjoyable experience but also a let-down city-wise. I remember being upset that there wasn't enough variation in elevation in the game. Perhaps thats another reason I enjoyed GTASA so much.

I kind of think ALL the GTAs are broken. I compare them to building a skyscraper on top of a card table. The fundamentals just aren't very sound. GTAIV is going to be such a massive improvement that I think people aren't even going to be able to touch the old games anymore.

Vice City was pretty good when it was released, I never noticed any control problems until I went back to it again after playing San Andreas. Go back and play GTA III, it's even worse.

I haven't been following GTA IV that closely, but I hope they got rid of that stupid hunger/muscle system they had in SA. I don't like having to feed my character, or give my character exercises. I rarely use the cheat codes in GTA games, but I did end up using the one where my character didn't have to eat.

There's no going back after playing SA. As much fun as I had with GTAIII back in 2001, I can't even touch it today because that game is even more broke than VC. And while I miss the features and controls from Saints Row when I'm playing SA, I can still get passed it because it's markedly improved over the other GTAs and, imo, it's the best game world ever created.

Even if GTA4 is the massive improvement I hope it'll be, I'll still be able to go back to SA because, even with its faults, the game is still very playable.

Agreed, I would still be playing SA if someone hadn't stolen my copy. I have a very limited gaming budget, so I find it hard to justify paying $20 for a game that I already bought before.

GTA:SA was not fun for me. The first part of the game in the ghetto was great, OG Loc trying to hit it big, doped whats-his-name with the big afro and sunglasses, hunting down some crack dellers, etc. But then it's as during production they thought nobody would like a story about some African Americans so they added UFO-chasing hippies and some secret agentish missions, scrapped everything else only to tie it back up at the end. It became ridiculous and absolutely not believable unlike the GTA:VC.

And as for the gameplay itself it was in no way better. Quite often you would travel for a long time to get to a mission, trigger it, do the mission, then go back to your house to "finish" the mission, only to fall down a cliff you didn't see because of a bush, go OMG NOE!!!! ... PHEW!, barely survive, but the NPC that tagged along died from the fall, and you can see the red glow spot ten meters in front of you. MISSION FAILED.

Yes that was my GTA:SA experience. That and running (and getting exhausted) through mountains, no vehicles in sights, because my motorcycle blew up when I hit a tree in the middle of nowhere.

Oh and falling off a bridge into the river and having to swim, swim, and swim some more, and swim again, until FINALLY I was back on land, and now run (and get exhausted) through mountains, no vehicles in sights, until finally I find a tractor.

Then I die because a plane crashes on my head, right before I get in the ****ing tractor.

Oh and because I had no more money I couldn't buy that stupid save point right next to the ****ing tractor, so I start over ON THE OTHER SIDE OF TEXAS!

When CJ got taken out of Los Santos and left in Angel Pines was about the time I really fell in love with SA. The gang banging was fine and all but the game turned it to 11 during the section in Angel Pines to Las Venturas. I also like the character arc it presented. It felt like CJ really grew and was moving away from the ghetto bullshit and was doing something better with his life.....like robbing a casino

All the 3D GTA's are broken, we just put up with it cause they're still fun dispite thier shortcomings. GTAIV finally fixes many of the problems with the past GTAs, it's about damn time.

yeah if anything I was pissed near the end game

with sweet and his unappreciative ass, should let the ****er rot in prison...if anything the whole arc after hes in prison till when he gets out shows how small and petty "the hood" really was. then you did pretty much turn into james bond while working for toreno so going back 'ballin was a little old to me

That Casino arc kinda sucked ass, getting the crew and the gadgets was kinda cool, but the heist itself was pretty crappy.

I loved the Toreno one, but mostly because James Woods kick ass.

The Truth story arc was one of the best moments in gaming.

You're flying across the desert on a high tech jetpack shooting up a moving train and stealing Area 51 shit, who the hell saw that coming.

Well, in terms of random shit nothing beats dressing like a gimp in order to steal a casino.

Or
going to Liberty City

God that part of the game was a giant let down.

OH BOY LIBERTY CITY! I HOPE I CAN DRIVE AROUND!
But no! You just shoot some people and go back.

What? WTF? Might as well not call it GTA anymore!

I can't believe this. If they actually did this... wow.... just wow. Dumbed down games FTW.

From the very beginning I was wary of the "changes" being made, but I'm shocked at some of this info. SHOCKED! I never would have believed that GTA would be taken down this route. Unbelieveable.
Lurk more >.<

I love Tereno, I'd really like him to come back, but I hated the fact that it didn't fit with the original premise.

Anyway

So how ARE weapons being handled without A-N? Just picking them up off dead guys?

There is a guy named Little Jacob, who sells weapons. I think you can order them with your cellphone, too.

There are probably locations that serve the same purpose as AN, but they won't be actual stores. Like black markets, etc.

This is probably the very first picture where Niko has a different expression on his face. People should be relieved.

It looks like he's yelling in that shot where he's shooting the guy too.

The lighting really looks fantastic in these shots. I can't wait.

Oh shit, that's awesome. Sounds Departed influenced, though different. I'm loving the gritty sounding story so far.

I really enjoyed San Andreas, but I do agree that the middle-part was rather boring and unbelievable. Vice City and GTA III still hold their ground, but yes, they are seriously broken games. With that said, I can not *wait* for GTA IV, which is shaping up to be the best GTA -game of all time. :)
