New Hitman: Absolution trailer [By Visual Works (Final Fantasy CG), out now]

I honestly don't understand if people being negative about the trailer and implying it will be closer to max payne are serious or not.
I really hope you guys realize that it would be a lot more boring showing an all stealth trailer, and that IO already confirmed that you would be able to only kill your targets and get stealth assassin ratings.

If I look at this trailer and remove the Hitman universe from it I enjoy it.

It's well done, good animation, nice and bloody, good action. Overall a top notch trailer

Then I rewatch it but with the frame of mind that this is a Hitman game and all goes to hell.

They've said this for a year and have yet to actually show this off in the game. This is why people are very, very nervous. I can tell people I shit rainbows and when they ask for proof or validation in my claims, I can make up stuff to keep them quiet for a little while. But eventually there comes a point where it's time to prove claims. I for one can't shit rainbows but IO is long overdue for actually showing stealth that's similar to the other games.

what bondage gear? they're not carrying whips and handcuffs and shit. its just their outfits that are latex/skimpy. and the argument could be made that the point is that its unorthodox and unique. there's a certain discomfort in the disconnect/oxymoronic attire. i really don't think its meant to be arousing at all.

I don't think you actually know what that word even means.

I mentioned this before, but Bioware also confirmed before release that Mass Effect 3 won't have A-B-C endings, so yeah.

If there's proper Hitman in this, they should show it. It's not an impossible thing to ask.

Watching you contort yourself in such a way as to somehow justify high-heeled, fishnetted nuns throwing away their habits to reveal incredible amounts of weaponry and coincidentally skin-tight shiny latex dresses and then to do a sexy group pose is highly amusing.

huh? i don't think anyone believes that they're actually nuns >_>

But they have shown nothing in the way of that at all (well, there was that one gameplay demo but then that was still looking fairly linear in comparison to older games and felt like the tutorial on Blood Money).

If the game is based around these options, then why not show them? It wouldn't be hard to do that in a trailer, CGI or not. And surely if stealth is still a strong mechanic in the game, then it'd make sense to sell that as well.

I'm still hopeful, due to screenshots and stuff - but a trailer like this doesn't excite someone who wanted a sequel to Blood Money. In fact, it does the opposite.

Am I the only one who liked the sexy nun get up? xD I think the fact they were killled off makes them look pathetic, they should have been introduced like the B&B were in the first act of MGS4. Showing them totally dominating some other gang, then everything would have been justified as far as Im concerned. Still though, sexy nuns FTW

Y'know how this trailer would've made any sort of sense?

Start by quick-cut introducing these assassins and showing they each have specialties (explosives, CQC, sniping, bullet hell, etc.) in a "SUIT UP" montage segment that ends with them leaving the room and a zoom in on Agent 47's folder being shown on a table with a street address. Fade transition the address on the folder to the actual street sign where there's a huge costume parade and these assassins arrive dressed as hot nuns and fan out looking for 47. Typical "search and fail" scenario until 47 is revealed to the audience dressed as something equally crazy like a devil costume, or a really janky parody assassin outfit as he pulls out his wire and walks right up to one of the nuns through the crowd LOUD NOISE ABOUT TO CHOKE HER OUT BANG ZOOM INCEPTION HORN

Hitman Absolution.

Cause, y'know, at least then I would've known what the hell is even happening. Cause this trailer is just what the hell.

fun trailer. Not what I want from a Hitman game but whatever, I'm just glad it isn't an AssCreed multiplayer rip-off.

The sad thing is that with a little more thought you could still have the fetish-gear wearing nuns but implement them in a meaningful way. The overly sexualised female assassin is a well-trodden stereotype that should be blindingly easy to do, but somehow they can't even manage that.

Goddamn man, I'm really wishing it was a CG trailer on a movie set about assassin nuns. That would have fucking kicked ass.

This trailer encapsulated just about EVERYTHING that the moralists believe to be misguided and wrong about our favorite entertainment medium in fell swoop.

Bravo, IO. Bravo indeed.

Haha this is so true.

I was really hoping for it to turn into something else, but by the end I found myself almost laughing at the absurdity of it.

no, i'm not. its just a little weird how up in arms people are about the sexism. but then games like bayonetta are prefectly fine?

It's contextual. (Bayonetta is borderline, but it's so over-the-top in every aspect that it kind of just blends into the whole mix. It's also got a weird power relationship feminism thing going on that somebody could probably write a gender studies paper on). Hitman Absolution in particular suffers from the fear that it is being made into a typical action-packed guns and boobs extravaganza to sell more units and remove its unique identity from it.

I mean look at trailers for previous games in the series. Blood Money. Blood Money's E3 Trailer. Contracts. Even Silent Assassin. See the kind of mood they set up, the type of story they're trying to tell, the type of game that they say Hitman will be. Then look at that sexy nun trailer and what it's trying to emphasise, point out, show off, demonstrate.

The only thing they have shown is what looks like a tutorial level which is similar to Blood money. I'm fairly certain they will show more open levels at E3 but probably behind closed doors.

How about a trailer of what the game is about, assassinations
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0w86x1YaapU (the last good Hitman game)

This new Hitman game is a joke.

It's easy to dismiss your post when you still believe that Contracts is better than Blood Money.

No people were up in arms about Bayonetta too, but If you think nuns with guns in skimpy outfits were designed as anything other than cheap titillation, then it really is pointless to even argue with you.

"Oh noes!! They're barely wearing any clothes...They are not appropriately dressed!!"
Get over it, stop being so oversensitive or go make some cardboard signs and protest on the street, jeez...
It's just a goddamn video game trailer, who cares. It's an extremely bad one, but wow...
All the little hype I had from a couple of months ago, is gone for me aswell. What the hell was that.

I don't find it offensive so much as I find it pointless and shameless. These girls were put there for pure sex appeal and to get bros excited, they don't fit in a stealth universe and there's no logical point for them to be dressed like whores. They didn't even try to make it make sense.

Why is the black person(usually a man, but in this case a woman) always handling the explosives/"the demolition expert" in just about anything?(movies, games)

Its always the black dude(tte)!

That being said, I got a kick out of the trailer.

Its every stereotype of games rolled into one, its actually genius. :P

OK, im convinced that half the people in this thread have never played a Hitman game.

Cg trailer was nice.

That looked like one of the campy trailers from Grindhouse, something Rodrigez or Tarantino would have done. It was fun for what it was, but aside from 47 using fiber wire on the first couple nuns, nothing seemed very Hitman-esque to me. I'm sure it'll do its job at E3 though, and get people talking about the game, but perhaps not in a positive light. Any press is good press though, right? :(

...If you think nuns with guns in skimpy outfits were designed as anything other than cheap titillation, then it really is pointless to even argue with you.

there was an aspect of titillation yes, but i do think there was other functions to their outfit other than that. one is the fact that it looks eccentric and unorthodox. and the other is that they used what they had to still dish out a beating on 47. for example in the trailer when their high heels was used to crush 47's hand, and when their cross chains were used to choke him.

and the "Hitman"-ish things in the trailer were the parts where he snuck up behind the group and were taking them out one by one using the sound of the rain/storm as cover. then it went to an action sequence.

I thought it was well directed from a cinematic standpoint. If their intent was to paint Agent 47 as a cold, ruthless dude, the trailer did its job. I was expecting a gameplay trailer but I'll take this while I wait for E3 impressions.

Well those outfits turned into fetish fuel quickly.
Trailer is still like every trailer in the series, bunch of action nonsense.

Now that was just super weird.

Why include women in fetish underwear but then make it a super serious trailer?
Why include women in fetish underwear but then not include any exploitative shots?

I really don't know which direction this trailer meant to go, but I'm sure that it failed.

I almost facepalmed myself to the hospital watching this. Stupid, repugnant, laughable... won't run out of adjectives describing this one. No idea what it has to do with Hitman either.

I guess I'm mildly interested in how the story is going to justify stripper heel nun assassins. Maybe this is the NOLF3 we've all been waiting for!

While I agree that this trailer was over the top, Hitman Blood money was already trying to win over the "bros" with women in skimpy outfits.

I was going to say. Hitman: Contracts had women in fetish costumes as well.

It's tradition at this point!

edit: The trailer isn't indicative of anything other than "it has a cool trailer for it." And maybe that you'll be engaged in cat and mouse antics for some missions. Which would be great!

Some people pay good money for that kind of abuse. The problem is, I just don't think they fit the tone of previous games or are justified in any way. People saying that this type of thing has been in Hitman games before are wrong, whenever hyper-sexualised or outlandish characters appear it has a context (usually some kind of party) or they are a reflection of 47's own psyche (as in Contracts), these women seem to dress like this because they are themed comicbook villains.

Yeah I remember that mission, it sucked too. Probably the worst one in the game.

There are fancy rich people parties like that though so it was kind of believable. This was just pointless. Are they in game enemies? What purpose is served for them being dressed like that? I'm sure those attention grabbing clothes and carrying rocket launchers isn't exactly what their assassin employers want.

I just don't think they fit the tone of previous games
Yes they do. Dude, do you even remember the last two Hitman games? Remember that Heaven/Hell nightclub?

Blood Money's characterization of women was so awful in that game.

From memory, all of the sexy stuff was almost all at parties or fetish clubs or Mardi Gras or what have you. Whereas here I guess an elite band of assassins decided to bus to their target location, travel in a pack all as one, and fire a rocket launcher into the room from an open position in a carpark.

Blood Money's characterization of women was so awful in that game.

Well, Diana was pretty awesome. Not like Blood Money's characterisation of men was that great either. Everybody was an unrepentant jackass. Except the reporter.

Every woman in Blood Money was modeled to look like a tight cheeked bimbo with fake implants spilling out of their dresses.

Seriously, I began to think that maybe we were seeing the world through Hitman 47's eyes and he was just misogynistic.

Some people have argued that the entire game is filtered through 47's own perception of the world. This is why everyone in Blood Money seems so grotesque and offensive, because to 47 they are. If true it would be a subtle touch that seems absolutely lost on the people responsible for this trailer.
