New Hitman: Absolution trailer [By Visual Works (Final Fantasy CG), out now]

I think everyone should wait and see what they show at E3. I get the feeling they will show "Hitman" gameplay at E3.

I think they are just trying to market the game in a way to appeal to a wider audience. While the Hitman games are great, they have never been blockbusters when it comes to sales. Sex and action sells. That's just the way it is.

*crosses fingers and prays that I'm right*

I can't wait for the moment when most of GAF changes their minds. My laugh muscle will be happy.

Oh please I hope all of us can eat crow. They havent shown us true fans anything to be glad about.

I can just basically promise you right now it wont be as good as BM.

It will happen, and everybody will love it. BUT NOW RAGE DAMMIT. Oh GAF.

it would be cool if that's exactly what he can do in the game, like batman aa and assassins creed. other than that, that video sucked.

Like stated above itt, where are the missions where you are dropped into a sandbox enviroment and have various ways to take out your target then escape? Because right now it looks like the enemies always know you are coming or are in the area which is stupid.
Sigh. Here we go again. I'm only going to say this once because I've done this song and dance to death in the other Absolution threads: from what I've seen, they're showing what they've refined/changed so far. The gunplay in the previous games was garbage, so they've fixed that for those who want to play that way. The magic laptop seems replaced by a limited-use magic Instinct mode (it's still stupid, IMO). The library mission is clearly a tutorial mission of some sort. Et cetera.

They haven't shown any true Silent Assassin gameplay yet, no.. one can assume that it's either because it hasn't been changed at all, or because they're saving the best for last.

Continue believing what you want, I'll be there day 1 if they deliver on the SA gameplay. :)

This, oh god this.

This, oh god this.

Ok let's get on with it then. It's great they are showcasing aspects that have no true Hitman fan interested like being able to use cover, a mark and execute style move, being able to see through walls.

I will accept that the level we have all seen is a tutorial level, but if that's the case then it certainly looks like a very closed off space that you only have like 1/2/3 paths or ways to get to your target. They have stated that after you complete this level the game goes into a sequence where you outrun a helicopter on some roofs, whether this is a cutscene or gameplay I don't know.

Real Hitman fans have been lashing out at IO for such a long time, and they have seriously done NOTHING to give us any benefit of the doubt. Sure Tony Blystad keeps saying it's going to be good to us oldschool fans, but where oh where have we heard that before?

If they want us to be satisfied and eat crow then please goddamnit just show us some decent footage? But they just simply wont do it!
And yeah let's go back to Conviction as an example. Everything they showed beforehand had most SC fans very worried, but they kept insisting you can play it like the older games.
Nah, you really cant and the game is pretty much garbage compared to Chaos Theory.

so in summary : It's good that they are improving things that DIDNT work well in the older games. But what about the CORE gameplay? SHOW US.

I person actually got to ask the devs about the god mode in the QA section of the event. The devs said that they had it on simply because they are still balancing enemy damage and things like that......we will see.

The gahhh wasn't directed at the whole quote. It was only directed towards your grammar usage in that sentence. Hence the bolding. Lol.

Awful... Just awful

edit, the trailer. Still not sure of the game. They literally wasted all resources and money on this thing

I definitively got a campy 80's action vibe from that... no wait, just a boner.

I know there are a lot of haters on this project but I still think it's got great potential.

Oh please I hope all of us can eat crow. They havent shown us true fans anything to be glad about.

I can just basically promise you right now it wont be as good as BM.

That's a given, the only way they'd be able to be match BM would be to hire back all the devs, producers, etc who came together to make BM as amazing as it is.

Anyway, I'm not as down on this as I was before...I've adjusted my expectations, so if this is a good - hooray - if it's not - oh well.

This was in Blood Money.

Again, believe what you want. I dont believe IO to be the type of studio to throw out everything that made Hitman great, but if you want to believe that then by all means. I'm not stopping you, just trying to speak some sense into some of you.. just because they're refining things doesn't mean they're alienating you. So what if you don't play that way? Other people do - it's just a bunch of whining from people who hate change.

Also, I don't care for the Conviction comparions because they have nothing to do with Hitman. I don't even know who developed Conviction but I'm certain it wasn't IO. What exactly do they have to do with IO, then? Oh right, nothing.

Lastly, stop with the "true Hitman fan" bullshit, please. You're starting to sound like that one dude that shits in and gets laughed out of every Hitman thread. lol

ZOMG the art style is like nothing in any previous Hitman game!! QUICK EVERYONE PANIC! lol

Wow that was really awful. Did they just think of the dumbest most offensive shit they could come up with to pander to nerds and release it as a trailer?

There are more things wrong with this post than with Absolution.

Care to elaborate or just post a snarky response with nothing to back it up?

Can't speak for Venty, but this is all kinds of wrong...

That would have made for an interesting short trailer for a Hitman movie. But as a way to promote the game, it was a failure.

I wish I could have been in the room for the pre-production meeting for this thing. There had to be more than a few people who were just head slapping the shit out of themselves.

If that's the case, then they're potentially just setting themselves up to disappoint the audience that trailers like this are supposed to be appealing to. And that doesn't make much sense. It's looking more and more like one set of gamer's are going to be highly disappointed come mid November.

Really? Just....really?

Well, I don't follow or play the Splinter Cell franchise (hence the reason I don't know the developers) so I can't really speak on it, can I? I realize I came off a bit dismissive but the reason is because I'm unfamiliar with them, and because I don't believe another studio's failure to live up to their remarks/promises means that IO won't live up to theirs.

this is no more sexist than shirtless musclebound rambo going on a shooting rampage. just because they are women people are bringing up sexism? c'mon.

Sexism doesn't work that way Timmy

I am seeing both positive and negative reactions to this. Besides, initial reactions to almost anything with a lot of money/marketing in it will always contain positive hype from some people, no matter how poor the concept of the released material is.

I'm pretty sure the positive reactions are coming from literal children though? Like, look at all the omg its hot/awesome comments. lol great timing on this post

I will follow it up.

The conviction thing? Look at the development of a beloved stealth franchise turned to a mere shadow of itself because the developers tried to broaden the appeal. More bang bang less sneak sneak. All the while maintaining the game was more or less like previous games.

And I'm with you, if they havent abandoned all previous Hitman gameplay this COULD be good. The fact is they haven't shown me shit that indicates the old Hitman gameplay is intact! I think that kind of stuff would be more appropriate to show, the CORE gameplay of the series.

If that's the case, you shouldn't have brought it up. The comparisons are valid, both games had amazing last entries (not counting DA), both were considered the best of the series, well received, etc and then, well...Conviction happened.

The devs for that did the same as IO are doing now - trust us, the core game is the same as CT, etc - and then Conviction released and was nothing like CT. It was basically 24 the game.

Stealth, while an option, was pretty much an afterthought. The game was considerably more action oriented than CT - just like Absolution is looking to shape up.

It's Ubisoft. And the main comparison everyone is drawing from it is a mode the last SC game introduced, Mark and Execute. It was basically a "win" button that after you did certain things to earn marks would allow you to kill people by just marking them and then triggering it. You didn't have to use it, just like with Instinct. I love the SC series and I didn't have a problem with M&E at all. Other people did. People are looking at the Instinct ability as Hitman's Mark and Execute. That and the fact that Conviction allowed you to run and gun and be stealthy easier by improving the shooting and cover system, which Absolution seems to be doing as well.

I'm like you in that I'm excited for Absolution and hope that crow ends up being served at the end of the day, but I also understand the comparisons to SC and people's hesitation.

I really liked the trailer.

I wonder if in the game, the missions is to take out all eight as they infiltrate the motel. 47 has a cool car.

This hasn't abated my excitement for the game. I bet when the game is released, crow will be on the menu for many.

Oh people will be eating crow alright, but not who you think.

We... shall... see.

I spent ages arguing about Max Payne 3 to a lot of naysayers, I've grown extremely tired of it, so I won't be doing that for Hitman: Absolution. My bet is that a lot of GAF will hate on it till it's released, 75% will get it and love, the other 25% will stick to their guns.

Let's see if my prediction matches the DS3 crazy train butts guy.

It's amusing reading "Oh I can't wait for people to eat crow" as if those people don't WANT to eat crow. Eating crow is the BEST possible outcome for people not happy right now. I WANT to eat crow. Please, bring me crow, I'm begging for it.

Until then, I'll keep my doubt and hate close by because they've given no real evidence for me to have hope. Promises mean nothing. SHOW ME.

I am just tired of the whole mentality of "I like something, so everyone else has to like it as much as I do or I am pissed." I am still guilty of this sometimes but am getting past it. If you like it, that's all that matters. Fuck getting caught up in everything else.

Not talking to YOU in general, more like EVERYONE in general.

can someone please explain why people are up in arms about Instinct mode? its basically just a replacement or alternative for the map from Blood Money isn't it? the function is exactly the same?

I dunno, I just get really frustrated when I see people outright hate something before trying it for themselves. It just seems so... counter-productive. If you're hesitant, that's fine, but there's people who walk around with this 'Ruined Forever' mentality that really bugs me.

But that's my personal issue, I know it doesn't make me any better than any of them. I'm just gonna choose not to engage this time around. I'm excited, they aren't so excited, I'm gonna be zen about this whole thing.

Some people feel that it is making things a little more easy. Yes, you were able to see enemy placement in the original games with the map, but were never able to see their path on where they were going to be walking. Also, you wouldn't be using up any resources to use it either in the original games. Personally, It doesn't bother me. One thing I did like about the overview map in the other games were the "point of interest" locations. Since the new instincts mode in displaying everything as you play, I would still like to know if there was say a place two floors above where I was at where I knew I could plant a mine or rig up something to take someone out.

But that's my personal issue, I know it doesn't make me any better than any of them. I'm just gonna choose not to engage this time around. I'm excited, they aren't so excited, I'm gonna be zen about this whole thing.

Amen mate!

Lol at the H&H level comparisons.
Having skimpy clothed performers in a club, is not the same thing as having pointlessly skimpy clothed assassins that look completely out of context (in the trailer they do, at least).
Why is a waitress in the club dressed like that? To lure more clients in, but why is a supposedly expert assassin dressed as a latex nun in high heels? No reason at all.

It's ok to have a little leeway in the name of design, it's true for 47 anyway, but there's a limit after which, it just looks out of context and silly.

It's not about women rights or sexism (though the issue can be very much related) it's simply fucking idiotic and out of place, unless they come up with a good excuse for it.

I didn't complain about Catwoman's skimpy clothing in Batman AC, because from a design perspective, it perfectly fit in that world, where Batman wears a tight suit with a bulge and everything.

And for those obsessed with "eatingcrow", i'm not saying i won't enjoy the game, i enjoyed Conviction afterall, the trailer still looks out of context.

You guys think that 47 scraped the bar code off himself or someone else did it? It's still bleeding after he put the bandage on it.

I also liked that bit of him holding the bloody quarter. It's a nice shot.
