New Hitman: Absolution trailer [By Visual Works (Final Fantasy CG), out now]

I think the trailer was pretty cool, but I mean... what was the point? Was it from the game? Is there an army of nun assassins or something?

Slutty nun assassins are hot. Brutal violence against slutty nun assassins... not hot.

Agreed.

I get that nuns can be hot (well we're obviously not supposed to think of them that way. I've actually visited a convent before and to be honest don't recall any very attractive nuns). I can even get that nuns wearing latex, heels and toting guns can be hot but the brutal slaying was quite tasteless. Not to mention it was probably one of the cheesiest vids I've ever watched; lots of eyeroll and face palm material.

You know what would have been classy?

Instead of nuns in fetish gear, have other well dressed gentleman come and try to take on 47, in assassin like ways, that doesn't involve blowing up a motel.

But that's not exciting!

I kind of hate to admit it, but I sorta like the trailer (maybe for the wrong reasons), and I am looking forward to the game. Yes, I did play and like previous Hitman games.

Oh my god. Just watched the video and literally double facepalmed myself. So lame, so cheesy, so... un-hitman like.

I think I'm gonna throw up now, then go boot up Hitman 2 on the PC and cry a little while I play it ;_;

That was pretty badass actually. Really nice CG too. I was expecting to turn it off right away in embarrassment. Never played a Hitman game before though so I can't comment on it as a fan. But this one might be on my radar now because of the trailer so I figure it worked for someone.

That was their goal all along I guess. Give the old school fans of the series the shaft in order to attract a new, larger audience. Guess it must be working. I kind of want the game to flop now out of spite :p

oh, who am I kidding. I know I'm going to end up buying this game and playing it anyways :/

In a similar situation and all I could think was how this was a terrible attempt in trying to emulate the assassins creed trailers and it failed.

The biggest offender in this thread is that there are still people that haven't played Blood Money. Get on that shit.

That trailer was dumb, and the little "nyeh the ORIGINAL ASSASSIN" callout to the Assassin's Creed series at the end comes across as pathetic.

If they basically just copy The Ship/Assassin's Creed multiplayer I'd be OK with it.

OK so I just watched the trailer. Felt like a cross between Smokin' Aces and the Batman Arkham City trailer where he takes down all the spec ops guys. I'd be OK with the latter, but mixing in the weird nuns shit just doesn't jive well.

What if it's graphic violence of woman against woman ala Kill Bill?

Violence of this over-the-top sort like in this trailer doesn't bug me. But I can't stand movies like Saw or whatever where there's this sort of torture/horrific violence against women. That really gets under my skin and makes me feel uncomfortable. I can't stand it. Same with violence against unarmed people (male or female) in video games. I have no problem gunning down tons of murderous enemies, but if there's a civilian in the way or someone surrenders... I can't do it, or if I do it, I agonize about it.

But if it's balls-out-crazy stuff, it doesn't bug me. Is that weird?

CG women got killed by Agent 47... oh my god what kind of message is Square sending

Agent 47 is only allowed to kill dudes cause dudes can fight back!

Loved the trailer.

Feminist get over it. He killed a bunch of girls in one trailer.

Females killed in a Hitman trailer = 8
Males killed in a Hitman trailer = Lost track

This is not the point.

This has NEVER been the point.

Why are we talking about this?

WHO brought this up?

Did you actually read this thread?

What is the point?

THAT'S THE POINT. There IS no point. I wish people would stop arguing sexism, or about females getting beat up, or whatever else when the real discussion should be about how pointless this trailer is.

FOCUS, people, you're missing the point.

BUT WHAT IS IT?

PAY ATTENTION. The point is that this trailer is pointless. That should be main point of discussion. Sexism, exploitation, 47 beating up nunssassins, rocket launchers + silent weapons, etc. etc are secondary points. Now, PLEASE, focus and don't make me have to point you in the right direction again.

You can draw multiple points of discussion out of the trailer, really.

1) It's really just an action moment where 47 demolishes a hit squad in a CG-cutscene for the cools. Doesn't really set up antagonists for the game or anything because they're introduced and offed in about 2 minutes flat, so it can only really serve to drum up hype or as a 'conversation builder'.

2) It doesn't really relate to the gameplay that Hitman is most well-known for (puzzle-based sandbox emergent behaviour).

3) Sexuality, fetishisation and sexualisation in Hitman is nothing new, but this is probably the most contextless it's ever been [as I've reiterated several times before].

4) The action is pretty graphic, but honestly this is probably the least concerning thing about it considering videogames forever.

Well, to be fair, the trailer does raise a few questions:

1) Why does the ICA want 47 dead?

2) How was 47 wounded at the beginning of the trailer? This obviously takes place after the orphanage.

3) He's still carrying the bloody quarter around. Why bother with taking 'the job' if he killed the person who gave it to him?

4) Why is he in the middle of nowhere?

5) Where'd he get that sweet car? And the amount of weapons in the trunk makes me thing he's on the road. A road trip across America? I kinda love the idea of a murderous road trip across America dodging assassins and trying to save a little girl.

6) Why close Mother Superior's eyes? Professional courtesy or did he know her?

7) Is he in the American heartland?

I don't think the trailer is totally pointless. There are some points if you think about it.

But guys, seriously... Road trip across America with 47. That sounds fun.

I hope you guys don't hurt yourself with all that reaching you're doing. This trailer raised one question: Who the hell are these nunsassassins, then proceeded to close the book on that question when 47 killed them all. I honestly don't see how someone could get anything of substance from this trailer. The game isn't even going to play anything like this.

Thats....not Hitman.

And we are back to square one.

It might not be Hitman, but I love the concept. Hey, I loved Max Payne heading down to Brazil and getting fucked up there. I loved Sam Fisher going Jason Bourne on everyone. I don't mind new stuff. As long as the end product has sandbox levels with lots of ways to kill people, I'm good. I don't mind some of this marketing stuff. And I'm a sucker for great narrative. One thing that IO did right with the KL games was narrative and presentation, and a lot of the time that kind of thing can have me overlook other deficiencies.

Hitman is a murderous puzzle game where you come up with a solution to take out the target. Honestly, I almost never got Silent Assassin. But it's so fun finding new ways to take out the target. So, as long as that made it in, I'm good with everything being shown.

I... have hope.

That was well directed at moments - the nuns were silly as hell, but well directed at moments, nonetheless. The first 23~ secs, especially.

That trailer was a great way to tank my interest in a new Hitman, and think badly of the person who conceived of it, who to all fairness probably wasn't the actual developers. Kills in Hitman should never be stylish. They should be short and brutal, and definitely shouldn't be him rushing a pack of killer nuns. Divide and conquer, not... whatever that was.

Didn't matter to me that they were women. It was just all around dumb.

Does anyone know what car 47 drives? I swear to God I've seen it before, but I can't place it. It's shown in this trailer and the Rockstar-esque Info/Narration trailer.
