New Killzone: Shadow Fall story trailer [new footage]

OK, further to my previous post, can someone explain this?

Top is Feb reveal, bottom is this new story trailer. Look at the shadows on the trees in the top pic, something has definitely changed with the lighting. It looked far more impressive back in February.

The IQ is seriously impressive. I'm so happy this upcoming gen seems to be the (almost) death of jaggies. Hell yeah.

Wont jaggies become more pronounced as geometric complexity increases over the duration of the generation? It's the same reason why any ps2 hd collection looks incredibly sharp and clean, but Uncharted 3 or The Last of Us are jaggy messes even at the same resolution. I remember thinking the same thing at the start of the 360 "wow Call of Duty 2 is so sharp and clean", but now games look like they are covered in vaseline with jaggies everywhere.

Such a terrible comparasion.. You do understand engines are dynamic with these things generally. Not saying lighting is same, just that your comparasion is hilariously bad.
Edit: Where you even got that terrible quality image. Yack.

I will confess that I was mildly interested in the SF because of how little we knew about the story. However, I was figuratively blown away by what I just saw. Finally, we may see a KZ with a decent story since KZ2 sans Rico.

Ground textures also kinda look like a mess here:

At least the ships look amazing.

I can't not laugh reading this comment. Two words: Asset Prioritization. Only on message boards would I see this sort of wacky stuff,

There are sections that are unpolished. It's a very unfortunate side-effect of needing to come out for launch.

I just took a screen capture as a single example, but I'm talking about the comparison between both entire trailers.

Regardless, we'll all see in a month how the fly-by compares to that original trailer, and I'll expect it to be real-time with those shadows and that lighting. It's still by far the most impressive bit of Killzone SF they've shown graphically, and nothing in the new trailer gets close.

Oh, and it's "comparison" :p

The story actually looks pretty good. The PS3 games stories didn't interest me much, since they had a real, "WW2 in space," vibe to them. Now though, it feels like the stories evolved to something a bit more then that.

Assuming I can grab a PS4 near launch, I'll probably check it out.

Considering they were in for the Helghan sections of the city I expect your expectations to be met :)

Looks so good! The story actually looks interesting to me this time.

I thought the same thing. I've tried to get into both KZ one and two, but just never really got pulled in. So much so, that I skipped the third installment. I gotta say though, this story trailer is intriguing.

Some of these posts are utterly ridiculous. When in a game do you pause the cutscene and look at a small tree that is in the corner of screen, clearly not meant to be a focal point of the video? The things that need to look good look amazing, the things that are small, minor details may suffer. Geez-O-Pete

That being said, I can't wait to play this.

In the second image the guy is behind tinted glass. Why are you comparing the two? :s

How the hell can you compare lighting?

I'm going to guess and say his window glass has some kind of projection displayed on it. Just a guess, judging by what looks like cameras in front of the glass.

There are lots of trees, not a single tree, and I was referring to the overall lighting and just citing the tree shadows as a mere example. That original fly-by blew me the fuck away graphically, this didn't. That's not to say it looks bad, because that would be nonsense.

Ok, so who wants a DLC campaign where you play as the Black Hand and infiltrate a Vektan trailer park to assassinate Rico while his old washed up fat ass is eating pork rinds and watching Helghan porn... or am I the only one?
Make it like trevors scene in GTAV and we have a deal

Maybe engine kicks shadows out for performance. Maybe bug. I do not know. Lighting looks very weird in that shot anyway. That "window" looks weird as poop. Edit: Yeah. That "window" is most likely culprit.

It will be comparasion for me, FOREVER!!! HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!

You've picked an image of a guy behind some kind of tinted glass. I don't understand why you are comparing that...

In the second shot he's looking at a sort of CNN background screen. The color values aren't presented accurately on that screen. Do similar shots in this trailer or the actual outdoors look worse?

Oh, sorry, I wasn't talking about the lighting. I was talking about the lack of shadows from the trees.

No, I wasn't meaning to quote you. There probably isn't any shadows at all in that scene because it is a man indoors behind some kind of tinted glass. There is some effect going on there anyway. If you're going to compare the two builds, you need images that are direct comparisons.

Still looks off though. Maybe it's detailed as you get closer, but it's way too clean from afar.

That's because you seeing a screen shot, when you watch the gamersyde video it's obvious, it's the same with the lighting on echo's face, when in screen shot form it looks horrible, but when you see the video, you can see the subtlety of it all. That particular screen shot is at the 1:18min mark of the video and you will the continuation of the canal in another section of the city at the 1:20mark of the video, in the middle of the video.

Color me interested. I just played KZ2 and skipped on KZ3. It is a solid shooter but nothing more, I would not go full price considering previous entries but it is looking good. Will be picking it cheap when I get the PS4 couple of years from now.

Please tell me this game was 60fps. It kinda looks like a wii game.

Resistance was developed in ~1 year for the launch of the PS3, the most difficult console to develop for back in the day. And yet it had a full campaign with an excellent longevity, 2 players split screen coop mode for the campaign, 4 players splitscreen classic multiplayer offline mode, 40 player online with a solid netcode, and 30fps.
Resistance was a very good launch title. Especially for the PS3.

Am I crazy for thinking the up close facial animations look bad? The models are high res and all but the animations are really poor and unconvincing
