New MGSV previews from magazines sneaking in

I don't get it, Big Boss speaks Russian in MGS3

There are reasons that could explain this. It's been 20 years since MGS3, he's been in a nine-year coma and has a giant piece of shrapnel in his skull.

But the best reason of all is that it makes for a good gameplay device.

- 'Loadout' screen like in Peace Walker, you can select the time of mission start, weapons, gear, tools, mechanical arm (electrocution is just one type), explosives, buddies, boxes, starting vehicles and player character. Says you can play as your generic troops, like in PW. You can have a car or lorry with you from the start, if you want.
What? Someone explain this, please, i can play as characters other than BB?

I'm too stupid to not be overwhelmed by the immense amount of choices this game throws at me, especially given the fact that I'm only able to play games in short bursts. I guess I may have to stick with linear experiences for a good while :\

Bullshit at BB forgetting Russian. I hope he at least has trouble with English as well as his basic combat and CQC stuff.

Yeah, I know head injury and all that but it just seems stupid if he magically just loses every bit of Russian yet still speaks perfect English and remembers all his CQC and combat skills while keeping his perfect motor skills.

And fewer cutscenes and more audio tapes makes it sound very un-metal gear. I guess when Sutherland is expensive and you don't want him saying much it's much cheaper to only have a few cutscenes and let the cheaper VAs do all the talking via tapes or radio where BB can just grunt or give one word answers that can be reused.

That stuff works fine if it's in the form of a handheld game where you might play a mission or two a day on the bus or train or at lunch but when it's this big budget thing you want to play on a TV and really get into it can be annoying. Like it works for Peace Walker, having shorter missions instead of a continuous thing like other MGS games because it was a handheld game but I'm not a fan of "episode" style for things that aren't episodic like Tell Tale games. I found it worked great in Resident Evil Revelations on the 3DS but was stupid and jarring in Resident Evil Revelations 2 on the consoles and PC.

Right. I totally understand it as a design choice on the PSP. Also, it's another thing if the game is released in episodes.

Yes, all with random animal codenames like in PW.

I'm amazed at the amount of people saying they didn't like Peace Walker. Game was fucking sensational, and had more depth and longevity than the entire series combined.

All MGS games had amazing boss fights. What about this one? Not even a single mention.

They are not allowed to talk about story spoilers.

But one of the journos leaked it.

Boss spoiler!

Came into conflict with #Quiet among splendid ruins. Beautiful: a boss fight integrated progression Open World #MGSVPreview

Yes but they are weaker than Big Boss. Like when you sprint they will be out of breath sooner.

This is mind blowing to me.

Also, i never played PW, so that would explain it.

The one thing I've been wanting to know for a long time is if there will be long linear indoor sequences that will play more like the traditional mainline MGSs. I'm more than perfectly fine with the more freeform outdoors gameplay (I loved GZ to bits), but big interior sections beyond the one in the opening would be a very nice addition and provide some variety that I'd appreciate a lot as a huge fan of the series.

Wouldn't the format of the game be even better for you if you don't have much time to play? You could just do a single mission at a time.

You mean it takes even longer to 100% than MGS2? Fuck me that game is already taking forever (just finished the Pliskin VR missions yesterday - which puts me at 65% of the VR missions done in 17 hours - which isn't counting any of the main story stuff) and I want to finish the whole series before MGSV comes out D:

Yeah, I'm blasting the shit out of Take on Me if it is in the game. It's going to be Outer Heaven's "Ride of the Valkyries".

I assume there will be. I hope that some of the bases contain huge buildings to infiltrate and explore.

- Early on you can interrogate guards but you don't understand Russian/African; it's useless until you do a side-op to Fulton a translator. This unlocks the ability to understand foreign dialogue from enemies.
.

There's no language called African. I'm sorry but it bothers me when people call Africa a country or ask if I speak African because I live here.
I get what you mean but I just needed to clarify that.

Enemy Spoilers:

The Skulls hunting you down sounds like the optional fight with the Ocelot's in MGS3.

When you take their abilities into consideration, they have to have some connection to Quiet.

Why must they always complicate things?, i was pretty ok with MGS (PSX). No need for additional gameplay systems (for me).
I'm pretty dumb and dislike tinkering with settings/menus/stuff just give me non-stop action.

I'm not interested in the MB shit at all, but some stuff sounds nice.

Given the fact that you don't even have to visit the base between main /side missions, it seems their plan is to allow you to more or less pay no attention to it. Still, it would be nice to treat it as a safety stop at the very least, reviewing what you need to do and what tools you need to do them.

There's some nice art on the front covers:

Just read the Official Xbox Magazine preview, sounds amazing. September 1st can't come soon enough, hopefully there's new b-roll footage on Tuesday.

It's not completely absurd.

There's been cases of people who suffer head injuries or strokes and lose ability to speak in their native tongue or gain languages. The brain is wired in a strange way and damage to one part can affect various aspects of personality, learning or preferences. The idea of a massive piece of metal or whatever inbedded in someone's head causing them to lose a language isn't far fetched.

This. I was victim of a somewhat fatal car accident years ago where I was revived and taken to a hospital while unconscious for nearly 3-4 days. When I came too, I learned the worst part of my body injured was my head. Had severe tramua. I forgot many things and had to relearn. I knew I knew these things but couldn't remember them. Some included how to eat with utensils, the Spanish language (which I'm still relearning), and just daily reminders of certain things. It's a bitch. Doctors told me the same thing that if enough trama occurs to the head and possibly brain, you can forget certain things or have temporary amnesia.

oh hey it's the end again. Didn't someone make a post about this a few days ago lol.

You're absolutely right, sorry about that...I had to type out a lot very quickly. What the magazine actually says is 'Africaan'. This portion of the game is apparently set in the 'Angola-Zaire Border Region'.

Well I'm hype. Had enough self control not to click the spoiler tags. Gonna be hard to black out when the previews drop. Ugh still 3 months away.. T^T

But this will be Kojima's Magnum opus. I can feel it. The hype is real. Not MGS4 levels, but it's up there.

Just need to know if boss battles are good. Yes or no answer will suffice. No details necessary.

I mean really, this is my expectation of a MGS sequel not a bloody handheld game. All those upset at Kojima for not going through by naming PW MGS5 should take a step back and see why. This is why.

This all sounds unbelievable. Cannot wait.

This has been said before, but the missions are presented a little like TV eps, with opening and closing credits.
Do not want.
