New SFIV Guile vs Able "Artistic Trailer"

It seems you people haven't noticed but there's a bunch of new gameplay videos at gametrailers.com , and in HD fewls!

The animation is some of the best I've seen this gen.

The animation is fucking horrible. How can it be some of the best you've seen this gen, when we've had games like Assassin's Creed (which sucked in all other respects, but the animation was top-notch)?

The animation reminds me of some of the old 3d Mortal Kombat games.

Anythin up on youtube yet? My shitty ps3 webbrowser doesn't play gametrailers.com, and gamevideos has been loading for 20 minutes now.

You so crazy, it looks like a moving cartoon to me.

You know that this game isn't finished yet right? And at this stage in the game.... it looks fucking gorgeous compared to some of the other shit heaps out there.

You can't compare those 2. AC is aiming for animations that look realistic. SF4 has to make sure the animations are quick enough so that it still feels like SF, and it does according to those that have played it.

With that said, you might want to go and look at those 3D MK's again before making such a terrible comparison. Despite the speed that SF4 has to move at, I haven't seen a 3D fighter animate better than this.

It's not finished, but it's unlikely that the animation will be substantially improved in the final product because they're trying to keep the timing of the 2d sf games, and it just doesn't look right in 3d. Look at how the characters fall down and get up or roll on the ground (for example) and tell me that that looks right to you.

where did you kids find a video of Vega? I don't see any on Gametrailers or youtube...

I think the animation is fine for what it is, fits the direction they've taken with the game, which is an animesque approach. It may not have the realistic fluid believable movements that Uncharted and A.Creed has, but the style it has with it's animation is just fine. I'm glad Ryu's theme made it in there as a remix to SFII. I hope the others take the same approach, specifically, Ken and Guile's themes.

From the CVG preview:

"Putting the final nail in the coffin for the arcade cabinet (we're definitely not buying one now) for us is that Capcom has also confirmed it plans to ship an "arcade perfect" controller in time for the PC and console ports. Wicked."

FINALLY I can invest in an arcade stick this generation.

So is you trolling every SFIV thread. Do you intend to ever say anything constructive about the game?
god those anime-game-style supers are so lame, and they should remove them.

there. constructive.

Go watch the first video. Look at the animation near the first KO. You'll notice a smooth (but quick) transistion from sliding on the ground to getting back up to El Fuerte's stance. About the only thing that maybe.... MAYBE (If I were to stretch the animation needing a bit more polish) is the jump but that is to the point of nitpicking whether or not I'm going to screw Carmen Electra in the vag or in the butt.

Also--- Look at the detail (again in the first video) of all objects on the raft having a nice smooth animation in addition to the water effect splash, reflections, sun flare and shadows.

Everything in the animation is looking top notch and with some more months between now and the release, this game is going to be fucking stellar!!

has capcom made anything this gen that looks shitty. im still in awe of the detail thats in the Ftank model. those freckles and hair everywhere plus this stinted walk. RE5 is only 60% complete and it looks the way it does i mean damn. capcom pulled their shit together since last gen with only a handful of mediocre releases then re4 tipped the scale. capcom is best dev/publisher this gen.

I wish we could remove you from dumping crap all over this game for no reason other than just being a troll.

A lame anime-style troll at that.

Wow, I haven't played the series since the SNES, but I'm very hyped for this after seeing all the vids.

when dfyb said "anime-game style supers" I assumed he meant the dynamic camera that kicks in.

I don't know if the previous 3D SF games used camera work like that during supers(I don't remember them doing, at least), but I understand it's a natural thing to add with the transition to 3D, but I loved the fact that the camera is locked in the SF games, because I fear that upon insane repetition the dynamic camera work will grow old fast...

so ive seen like over a 100 gameplay videos at this point and ive only seen one video of someone actually using the saving strike effectively. :lol

In these new videos its like if someone is dizzy or they hit the saving strike they forget what to do. haha.

One thing that is interesting in the Guile Vs. Sagat is Sagat crowds the corpse then charges up the saving attack on wake up... now it didnt hit becuas ehis timing is off but I do wonder.. how the hell would you get out of that situation if it does work? Isnt that shit unblockable after a certain point? I'm guessing a techroll or something but god damn that could be so broken..

Let's hope they've already thought ahead of you, haunts.

That said, you can only do Saving strikes when you have one segment of your revenge meter built up, right? So it's not like you can just spam it, especially since you build the revenge meter by getting hit, yeah? And the unblockable charged version takes 3/4 of the meter.

Yeah I think that is how it essentially works so you wont see it all the time, but it could get lame to where every 3rd round of this game its just ending with neutral throw into charged saving strike into nasty super combo you know..

Also, with the tech rolling aspect, if that is indeed the only way to get out of it, what happens if you're in the corner? Cant tech roll out of the corner... so.. Back throw into corner, dash up, charge saving strike, boom... the end. :\

Actually now I think they have it where the revenge meter does reset every round which i guess isnt so bad, but anything unblockable I tend to worry about..

Another horrible situation to think about, you beat this guys ass, he is fully raged, nuetral throw, charged saving strike, nasty super combo.. bam.. all your hard work down the drain.. :lol

I liked that new Guile vs Abel trailer. The filter was too strong, but I otherwise like the style of it. Likely in part because I dig the sort of Fedor Emelianenko esque feel to Abel though. Rufus, too, is a pretty neat design; though both Rufus and that girl feel much more like SNK characters than SF characters.

True, true. I guess we'd just have to see how this tactic would work out in practice. I mean, it relies on getting your ass whooped then hedging your bets on a single shot. It sounds like something that'd definitely get annoying but I dunno how truly effective it would be. I'd also like to think the loke testers would've surely picked up on this. That said, I could imagine using saving strikes like that to come in handy a bit.

Hey guys, was there a confirmation of Akuma being in the game, because he is one of my favorite street fighter characters next to Blanka.

Supposedly Akuma was confirmed in a European mag and playing a large role in the story but they haven't shown anything about him. At Captivate the Anime cutscene that was shown had Ryu, Ken, Gouken, and Akuma in it, so there you go.

No official word on playable, though.

TEKKEN 6 smokes SFIV in terms of animation.

I would think so too but I think ppl are still wrapping their head around the whole concept judging from the videos. even when it hits ppl arent even going in for xtra damage so who knows...

paging reno, paging reno..

SFIV's animations wouldn't fit in Tekken 6 and vice versa... they both look frikkin amazing.

In some of the 2d games they put a drawing of a character's face on the screen when they initiated their super. To me, this just seems like a natural extension of that.

zoom in on 3s supers too.. shinsho..

Look at how Guile falls down twice in the beginning of the video. It looks absolutely ridiculous.
A lot of the animations would probably look alright in isolation or if they didn't look like they were in fast-forward. Others look just plain mechanical or artificial in the way that it seems like the characters don't have any weight or momentum. It doesn't look like they're moving by their own power sometimes; it's as if they're being spun around by some invisible force.

You so crazy, it looks like a moving cartoon to me.

Are you seriously claiming that the animation looks like a hand-drawn cartoon? I don't see how that's even possible given that it's 3d animation, and I've never seen 3d animation that "moves" like traditional hand-drawn animation.

You can't compare those 2. AC is aiming for animations that look realistic. SF4 has to make sure the animations are quick enough so that it still feels like SF, and it does according to those that have played it.

It's cartoony, so the characters don't have to move realistically per se, but there does have to be some naturalness to their movements or it just looks plain wrong. There are many cartoons that don't aim for realistic animation after all but still have bad animation.

It doesn't help that the characters look so goofy. They don't look like they're from some action-packed anime; they look like bad fan art or something.
