New York becomes the first state to offer tuition-free college for middle class

I'm disparaging mostly the Third Way Corporatist Democrats under the Clintons. The crew that only fights for socializing corporate profits, and screw mostly everyone else.
You...you know socializing profits would be a good thing right? That's literally the point of Bernie's social programs.

They've been dead since mid 2000s, and the Clinton's dropped support for them long ago as well. Have you been living under a rock?

By Third Way, I'm talking about the lapdog Democrats that continue to put the interests of big business ahead of those of the bottom 99%. The Schumers, the Washerman-Shultzs, the Pelosis, the Feinsteins, the Kanes, that whole crew is still stonewalling progress on behalf of their donors any chance they get. Clinton was riding on their coattails as the corporatists cleared the way for their candidate.

That's how politics works. You build coalitions and lobby to get the politicians on board. You don't elect a king or queen that you think agrees with you all of the time. You elect a leader you can work with and push to get your policy through.

That's how national sentiment works. You get a genuine leader that the young can rally behind as he promotes actual real solutions to their problems, and their voices will grow louder and louder until more and more politicians are forced to join the fight.

Change under the old corrupt Democrat party was at a snail-pace (yay! for a few common sense social issues being addressed by these neoliberals) because the coalitions and lobbies they wanted the green light from the most was/is those of the wealthy donor class.

You...you know socializing profits would be a good thing right? That's literally the point of Bernie's social programs.

There is a BIG difference. Bernie is for socializing basic necessities like health care and education. The Democrats and Republicans have made it so that if big corporate cartels make bad bets, they will get bailed out with our tax dollars. If a corporate cartel wants to draft their own legislation to aid their profits, the Democrats are happy to look the other way. If the US can afford to print another TRILLION dollars that will go to subsidize military and government contractors, woo hoo! do it! Help for the middle class crushed by foreclosures and stagnant wages? "Pull yourself by the bootstraps you lazy socialist pig! here are some food stamps and leave us alone..."

Hmm, I suppose, but here (Sweden) it's free for everyone. Perhaps you could argue that the upper class doesn't "need" free education, but yeah. And we also get student allowance/grant (or however you would translate "studiebidrag") at around 3000 SEK/month to pay for those books and other stuff, plus extremely advantageous student loans (best loan you'll get in your life) if you need more to pay for your apartment or such. So we actually get paid to study. And there's none of those requirements that you stay in a certain place and get a job or whatever. It's more of a no-questions-asked thing here, a right for everyone to get an education that we simply take for granted.

But still, like I said, this is a very good step in the right direction. Education should be a right, not a privilege.

EDIT:

See above. We do have to pay for housing, books, etc, but we get money that covers at least the books and some other stuff (this money is completely "free", and is not paid back), and loans with very good terms to cover apartment costs if needed.

I agree that higher education should be socialized in the US, but let's be clear that it's not "free." You pay for it your entire adult life via taxes, and Sweden has a VERY high tax rate.

Are you familiar with the Cuomo family?

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

I'm guessing you don't know who the Cuomo family is if you're making such a statement.

If you figure out what people are spending to pay off student loans for the majority of their life, would they have been better off paying that money via taxes?

It's the same story as single payer, of course your taxes will be higher but should be offset because of no longer paying for it out of your existing payroll contributions.

This is really cool! It would suck to be right over the 100k line though. I'd imagine there are people/families making that much that would still have trouble paying for college, especially those with 3 or more kids.

Governor Cuomo was pushing for a 15 dollar minimum wage in NYS before Bernie Sanders was even dreaming of running for president.

He's also the most establishment established shill corporate Democrat that ever existed and yet here we are in this thread about how he just passed free college tuition.

The idea that every major liberal legislation that passed post 2016 was directly thanks to Bernie Sanders is ridiculous.

And yet people will eat that ridiculous narrative up with a spoon.
