Next-Gen hair looks horrible.

Tropical Freeze clearly had the best hair.

(lol... Come to post this) The Dynamic Fur on DK:TP is amazing. I really want to see a Gif of this.
 
It's not that looks horrible. It's just that developers do the best they can with hair cuz it's one of the most difficult things to simulate properly.
 
Does it actually move based upon their movement? That would be interesting and surprising for a Wii U game.
Yes,and looks really amazing. I was talking about that with a friend a few days ago, great coincidence. I have the game, but i dont have a DVR to record a short video.

Forgot how good the hair looked in tropical freeze, and with 60fps on top of that. Even the enemies that had fur had the same great looking fur.
 
While cool, that looks like she's underwater. I guess it could just be how fairy hair moves in the wind. :D

I agree. I would expect that kind of reaction if she were underwater. Hair tech has a long way to go. Real hair is actually fairly stiff. Unless the wind is VERY strong, hair isn't going to move that much. Rustle maybe, but not blow around a lot.
 
Bloodborne character models suck fullstop, nothing to do with hair, I wouldn't even say they're lastgen quality.
 
I laughed when the first pic in the OP was from a From Software game. From Software makes some fantastic games but they don't exactly have the strongest team of character artists in the industry.

Should read "Some next-gen hair looks noticeably worse than other next-gen hair," but that doesn't get THE CLICKS.
 
It's still not perfect, but the hair in The Order is a significant step above anything else I've seen in a video game. Lafayette's got some luscious locks.
 
Bloodborne looks like a damn joke. It's not even only the hair. It's the entire character model. Thought I was looking at some PS2 model.

I don't know why some people keep making this mistake, but this is from Uncharted 3. It's in the forest before you reach the chateau. Anyway, this pic gets me excited for ND's hair tech in Uncharted 4. Nate's chest hair blowing in the wind may be subtle, but can you imagine Elena's or Chloe's hair blowing in the wind? *drools*...

You can't really use bloodborne as a good representation of hair imo. Overall though I agree with you. There have been some good ones though.

That looks amazing, I didn't realize the IQ was that clean but then again Insomniac were always great at that.

Check the resolution of that image ;) It's 5760x3240, the image has been altered by Photoshop afterwards. SO isn't that clean.
 
Guys please only use gameplay pics, show me Unity's hair during gameplay (hint: it׳s not even close), as well as The Order and any other game. cutscene's hair doesn't count, post gameplay pic or even better- videos during gameplay so we can see the animation.
 
I was actually thinking about this recently, too. Even FFXV's demo had really bad hair (although probably more the aliasing issue than the actual hair tech itself).

Yeah the extreme aliasing really jumped out at me too. Hope they figure out how to antialias the hair to match everything else.

Why doesn't cutscene hair count? The only time you're really going to notice the quality of the hair is a close up shot when the camera is staged so that you can focus on it. Arno wears a hood 90% of the time when it's not a cutscene, anyway.

cause it's not something the console is able to render during gameplay, i don't find it impressive because of that.
