Still bet Cyberpunk gets delayed, if nothing else to save face from the negative press about crunch.

I mean, it's going to be pretty bare bones on current gen. I plan on waiting for the next-gen version.

I had many jobs that required us to work extra days and or hours. Paid of course, but This is nothing that ONLY happens in game development. When I worked at avionics places, we signed a starting contract that required mandatory over time and they asked us to do the 7th day. "crunch" happens in many places. Not to say there are not instances of over work and other issues, but 6 days is no big story.

I still expect the floodgates to open on UI, BC and stuff for Sony next week. This seems to be another week of letting Microsoft show whatever they want to.

Though I'm sure Microsoft still has more to come, also. But it's gotta change here very soon.

Days go by quick and we're roughly a week and a half from these consoles being 30 days away from release and we're still waiting on:

UI, Xbox Live, PS+ changes, PS Now update, BC(PS5 primarily), what the Create feature is, real next gen footage running on a Series X(cmon guys), cold boot times on a PS5, etc.

Yeah I read it but this bit stood out Sony Interactive Entertainment Shanghai has not confirmed which games will appear at the showcase.
Its just another wait & hope no??

If they really sold 4mio units so far (big IF), they did supply pretty much anything manufactured so far, around twice as much as PS4 were sold at launch world wide
getting so so much units manufactured and supplied is everything but amateur for me...
There’s no way in hell that they sold out 4m preordered consoles so far unless half of them are eBay scalpers.

Just got off the phone with an EB Games rep here in NZ.

PS5 sold out in New Zealand in 30 minutes. Their entire shipment for launch gone in 30 mins. Their next shipment for end of year sold out with an hour. Their allotment for beginning 2021 also sold out.

The rep said It's going to be very hard to get a console until next year and even then they can't guarantee that. WOW !!

Didn't ask about Xbox.

Same here. A lot of people who pre-ordered a PS5 are being told they are probably not getting it until next summer!

She didn't give numbers but said that demand is really high for PS5 and it surprised even Sony.
Xbox Series X is sold out as well. Didn't expand on the numbers there or anything. I didn't bother to ask.

But yeah anyone looking for PS5 at the moment, there's no chance you'll get one this year. The way she was talking sounds like even next year PS5 will be sold out once they get in new shipments.

I asked about Series S, because that believe it or not is still available to pre-order.
Eh, yeah i'm actually considering that speaker box. I feel dirty now.
I'ts not what i really want and i'm tired of my PS4 Pro and that fucking fan. I know the Series S is gimped but there are some Xbox games that interest me like Forza, Gears and Grounded looks like fun. Sea of Thieves as well and that's about where my interest ends lol.

As for my PS4 Pro: I can't play Modern Warfare without worrying the damn thing is going to come apart. I'm already subscriber to gamepass so i'll just gamepass until i'm blue in the face and can maybe secure a PS5. Luckily the EB Games store will still offer trade-ins so when i want to get PS5, I can trade in this piece of shit PS4 Pro. Love the games, hate the hardware.
You getting what? No no no no no no. Just no.

I honestly found the opening part of Bloodbourne to be incredibly difficult. After I got past those bits, however, I found the game to be easier than Dark Souls.

Sekiro on the ohter hand ... yeah, didn't even reach the first boss :|
Its sad how little progress I've made in Sekiro. So tough, but yet I always come back and try again eventually.

Thats why Demon's Souls is my day 1 buy on PS5. I prefer how that combat looks/works, and it'll last me years cause I might never finish it.

the games are so massive to say one is harder than the other is a little unfair.

I think there are sections in the game that are step-ups or get good moments.

bloodborne Farther Gascgonie for example is one of those bosses that you need to respect. to me its the first ok, you get past him, you have what it takes to finish this whole game. i have had friends that have quit at him, raging after 10 goes never to play the game again.

Take Darksouls the original game, when i first played it i was like wtf is this, its easy, i was smashing stuff, yes i came from a hardcore raiding wow guild so it really helped me. But i was tearing through the game then i got to ornstean and smough, well that fight there made me respect the game, they fucked me up royally.

There are moments like this in all these games, some bosses look menacing but are not, some are beyond awful.

Some areas, blighttown etc can be soul destroying, take your time be careful. 1 silly mistake its the whole thing again, that's the killer.

Another thing to consider is don't play these games when your not focused or your tired. Dont come home from a long hard day at work and start bloodborne unless your a vet.

being tired or not focused while trying to play these types of games are going to ruin your night.

but if you do go into these games being half asleep, just looking to fuck around your in for a bad time. these games demand respect, attention span needs to be on point.
As someone who is currently trying to beat The Last of Us Part II on Permadeath mode, I can relate to a lot of this.

Thank you for the wise words, Fish.

And someday, I will beat Sekiro.. Maybe.

Still do not understand how the architecture of this console can result in slower internal to external SSD numbers compared with external to internal SSD. I simply do not get it...
Maybe really low write speeds on the internal? For endurance maybe? Could it be the flash controller?

Write is generally slower than read.

Copying from internal to External = Reading from the internal and writing to the external

Writing speed is generally slower so this is entirely dependent on how fast the external is at writing.

Copying from external to internal = reading from external and writing to internal

reading speed is generally faster than writing so this again is dependent on how fast the external speed is.

This is all happening over USB 3.1 Gen 1 at 5Gbit/s = 625 MB/s

The internal SSD in Xbox Series X is not the problem. The external SSD is the bottleneck.

If so, then really its the USB port thats the bottleneck

Well yes. But the SSD used for that benchmark is less than the capability of the full USB 3.1 gen1 specifications at 625MB/s so in theory the external SSD at 540MB/s is the bottleneck. Now if you were using an SSD that is faster than the specifications of USB 3.1 gen1 then the USB port would in theory be the bottleneck.

In general I'm saying don't waste your money buying a faster SSD because it will be limited by the capability of the USB port.

PS5 for example uses USB 3.1 gen2 which is 1.2GB/s.

Edit: Sony really was not playing about IO and general speed of PS5. They went out of their way to ensure that everything was fast and top of the line. PCIE 4.0 x4, USB 3.1 gen2, WIFI 6, Bluetooth 5.0. Compared to PS4 that they honestly cheapened out on.

I have never played Yakuza games before, I admit, but what the heck did I just see? A whole lotta people screaming, chasing Pokemons, and a bunch of colored explosions good enough to send ol' grandma into seizures?

Godfall made their seizure-inducing colorful effects a little better 😂
Had a friend on the "WTF is this camp" lend him my copy of Yakuza Zero and he finished all 7 ganes + Judgement now and I'm still on the Kiwami 2. It's not for everyone for sure, but it's not afraid to be a game when everything tries hard to be a simulation/edgy/adult lately. It's just fun.

The internal SSD in Xbox Series X is not the problem. The external SSD is the bottleneck.

Here is the thing:

The USB port allows for data transfer of the 49 GB file that Jeff runs over 1min 18 sec. At that time the USB port becomes the bottle-neck. Since all times are much higher than that we know that the USB port is not the problem.

Both the internal SSD and the external SSD are way lower than their hardware specifications in the runs as well.

Consequently, it is how the architecture handles I/O and how files are managed that bottle-necks the system.

What might be going on is that the OS runs file verification when writing and that the latency is high for the USB port (and write verification obviously only needs to be run towards the device that is being used for the write).

Jason is a pretend socialist who works for a multi-billionaire and is super anti-crunch. Colin is a conservative hipster who doesn't give a shit about it.

So yeah... they don't like each other lol

It’s another case of framing and narrative. CD Project paying a lot of overtime and bonus money for the overtime, they are fighting a deadline. But Jason makes it sound like slavery. When we don’t know all the details. Not every case of crunch time is the same.

RE crunch
You want mandatory crunch? Come be a farmer. 70-80 hr weeks when required and a 6 day week every week of my working life. 25 years so far.

If you're getting paid and looked after then its not a problem. Though I'm not really keen on the language "mandatory". I would hope that its not forced in the strictest sense.

Agreed, Jason is your typical journalist and and they make a living off trying to sell people drama and controversy, that means cleaver play on words and exaggerating certain details and spinning accounts. I could go further but this not the thread for that. Although I would encourage everyone to have a healthy level of skepticism towards media and journalism in general regardless of a reputable source like Jason Schrier.
