NFL Network's top 100 greatest players of all time is on the top ten.

wut. bastards. that type of shit should be put on in the dead zone of the offseason when there is nothing to talk about.

Maybe he meant to say Adrian Peteson?

I would. Montana is great and the best QB, but not the best nfl player. Rice totally is.

NFL is so tough since the different positions have such different skill sets. Rice deserves it for sure and I know why he is #1. But I am a big QB fan, I believe they have the hardest job in all of sports so I would like the #1 to be a QB. But as I have said I can't really argue against Rice.

Good list for the most part, some spots are off but I think they nailed the top 5.

My personal top 5:

5. Lawrence Taylor - Best OLB ever. Basically invented the position as we know it.
4. Joe Montana - Best QB ever. He had the best weapons and the perfect system.
3. Jim Brown - Best RB ever. Would have been even better had he played another 10 years.
2. Jerry Rice - Best WR ever. The numbers speak for themselves.
1. Walter Payton - Best football player ever.

Baseball guys often talk about 5 tool players. Walter Payton was that on the football field. You name it, he did it. Run with speed. Run with power. Catch. Block. Kick. Throw. Return. etc. I don't think the Bears ever lined him up on defense, but I'm certain he would have kicked ass on that side of the ball, too.

RIP

I think Finley could be just as good as Tony Gonzalez someday...

So yeah, top 200 player.

All depends on how he comes back from surgery of course

Yep. Payton is my favorite player ever. Ditka even fucked him out of TD in the SB against my Pats and gave it to the Fridge instead.

And with good fucking reason!

I was mad about Favre over Brady, tbh.
I give Brent crap because he went to play for the Vikings, but late '90s Favre was the best QB I've ever seen play. Injuries and reality caught up to him and dropped him down to merely good (and then one level lower, to slangin'), but I'd say that '95-'01 easily carry the rest of his career. After '97 our WRs pretty much sucked, we had a middling running game, and yet the offense still hummed along. (eventually we got Ahman Green, but Favre's abilities were degrading)

On the other hand, fuck that guy.

i'm glad to see rice was #1. i know arguments can be made against it:

1. don hutson existed
2. he played with hall of fame qb's

but as a niners fan i took him for granted. when you see someone do something so effortlessly you think things will always be that way for your team. not only did he set a standard for catching the football, he also got out and blocked. totally selfless player but also wanted the ball in his hands in key moments because he knew how good it was.

tough to go against joe montana because a team can technically take a receiver away if they really want to. whether its rice or owens or whatever great receiver you want to name, if the defense wants to commit enough attention to a receiver they can stop him. then it's down to your qb to make them pay. rice was fortunate to have montana and young because they could get the ball to other players. it's similar to peyton manning where you see a bunch of scrubs out there but it doesn't matter, they're still making plays in the game because he's so good.

i couldn't argue with rice or montana at #1, but it is bittersweet since its a reminder of what we used to be and will never be again :(

until alex smith is back from injury you fucking losers! go niners!!!

It's cool to hate Favre for the tiny-dicked asshole he's become, but if you deny that he's one of the top 5 QBs to ever play the game, well, then you're simply ignorant to the game of football. As much as we like to shit on his interceptions, he also has the records for nearly every single positive passing record as well.

Yes, he's an unbearable egomaniac, but the fact that he was arguable the best QB in the league at the age of 40 ought to tell you something.

wait, is Bernard Berrian the #2 WR in Minny??

I mean SD has some dude named Seyi Ajirotutu as the #2 WR, but they have Gates and a QB not named Favre.
Tim Hightower and LaRod Stephens-Howling have combined to gain 159 more rushing yards than Beanie Wells in 3 fewer carries

Not even John Madden could successfully argue that Favre was arguably the best qb in the league last year or hell, even for any the last 5 seasons. The guy has not brrn part of the pantheon of top qbs for quite some time. Playing in your 40's is not something I give a shit about. I would take Vinny Testaverde at 40 over Favre at 40, hell I would take a 50 year old Testaverde or however fucking old he is now over Favre at 40.

He had one of the longest careers of any player and had some amazing receivers on his teams. Donald Driver is one the best all time YAC receivers ffs. I will argue Favre is great but doesn't belong in that top tier til the day I die!

Every single positive passing record? Point me to a non-alltime one. Congrats Favre, you stuck around.

i mean you can troll, but favre was better last year than vinny was in any fucking year of his career. it's not even remotely close. sure he was lucky, but he was quite awesome last year and in 07 as well.

Sammy Baugh was the best NFL "tool" player ever.

Brent Farve threw 33 tds 7 interceptions last year. He was over 40. Vinny didn't do shit in his 40's. 10-22 as a starter and 31 tds- 34 int.. In other words.. :lol wat

Why do you have to bring stats into this? Vinny has more heart than Favre does and that is all that matters.

I'm ignoring the guy above you who clearly knows as much about football as I do about assembling a B-52 from paper mache. Testaverde? Get the fuck out of here.

You? You have hope.

However, I think the fact that he holds so many records with basically one very good receiver should tell you how great the guy was. There have been plenty of QBs around for more than a decade. None have his pedigree, records or success. Again, he's shit this year, but he was amazing for a 40 year old last year. His career with Green Bay is legendary.

Hate who he is now, fine. But to deny his success over his career? Ignoring reality. Scroll down to "records and milestones."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_career_achievements_by_Brett_Favre#Records_and_milestones

You don't get that by being okay for a long time. Ask Todd Collins. He's one of the best to ever slang.

Brent plays through all those tough elbow pains in stuff though
I tried to type this with a straight face but could :lol
