Since 2B released in SCVI, the memes about her attractiveness have reached a new high, which I think results from a bunch of people whose only exposure to her are through this cameo appearance and other...unofficial depictions...of her.

NieR Automata may very well be the best game I have ever played, with a mixture of story and gameplay so impressive in its lack of compromise in either aspect that makes it truly an exceptional game. What's interesting - and I won't spoil anything here -is that her looks totally serve a purpose in the game, she's attractive for a reason that has plot significance. So, let me be clear, I'm not saying that her design shouldn't be the way it is. I guess there are just some things I don't like about her depiction in SCVI (her win pose is just stupid), and I think people are taking shallow hentai memes much too far in a sort of cringey, lame way.

Now, if someone has never played NieR but looks at a video of her in SCVI on YT and reads the comments, they will likely get the idea that Automata is a game about nothing but fan service, when in reality it has phenomenal gameplay and is one of the best executed existentialist plots ever (and 2B isn't even the main character), which makes me sad.

I don't see why someone would make assumptions about the game rather than, I dunno, read one of the many raving reviews mentioning it has everything, from gameplay to story.

If that someone wants judge entire game just based on mems then its their loss. Most people who played the game know its true value and that’s all that matters.

the game is awesome, it is undeniable, and i think anyone who hears about 2B and the game will also hear that opinion as well. which is good. more people should hear about the game.

tbh, she has the nicest butt ever in gaming. it is perfectly round and perfectly proportioned and the costume design complements it immensely. never fully or gratuitously revealing, always on the knife edge of titillation. the presentation is a wonder of design in all seriousness.

"Sex sells" isn't some golden rule that has a 1:1 correlation. Last I checked Senran Kagura and DOA aren't the world's best selling gaming franchises. I have some hardcore gaming friends who I think would love what NieR has to offer in terms of plot and gameplay, but instead write the game off as fanservicey and call her "2Butt". These memes aren't really selling the game to people looking for a legitimately good video game, which is sad because NieR so undoubtedly is one.

I definitely agree, A2 is the best character for me, both for the character itself but also for the gameplay, berserk mode with the right chips setup and trying to stay in berserk forever by killing ennemies as fast as possible with these fast animations is fantastic.

I could even say that, even if I don't like 9S (route B was a mistake for me, too similar to A and boring hacking minigame), he is still more relevant than 2B in the end, and 2B is actually the least important character of the trio.

It’s was 2B’s memories that it was effecting A2 both personality and her actions and not mention the the big revelation about who 2B really was.
Also I really liked 9S, I like the confusion of he both loves 2B and hates her at same time messing him up.

I was a huge fan of Nier on the X360, though I still have to actually finish it two more times to complete it. I'm glad to see that 2B is drawing in a bigger audience for the game. I really don't mind if some of them are just here to climb ladders as long as it helps to make another game like it a possibility.

Some of the concerns presented in the OP lead to things like the new Laura Croft and the design of Black Cat in the recent Spider-Man game. These choices can certainly be justified by business reasons and (to an extent) sales, but personally, I'd rather my escapist media not be filtered through current social agendas and their associated contemporary prudishness.

In general, people who didn't play NieR: Automata due to being turned-off by 2B's design aren't going to reconsider, if hypothetically, her depiction in Soulcalibur 6 had subdued sexual elements. It's perfectly acceptable for people not to like 2B and not play the game, just as it's preferable that people attracted to the character, or at least willing to engage with the product, are allowed to have an undiluted experience. Every piece of entertainment shouldn't be created for everyone, otherwise everything becomes stale in its homogeneity.

I 100% agree with this. Most of time when you try make game for everyone the game would feel like it has no focus and bland.

Love both 2B and A2 equaly but in terms of gameplay definitely A2. I LOVE her taunts.

Also people can say that NieR Automata only got popular for its sexy design but games like Onechanbara was all about sexy characters but that didn’t help the game to become popular.

There are probably a lot of people like me who appreciate her design but either didn't play or didn't finish the game. I only made it about three hours in before I realized it wasn't for me. Her design was the only thing about the game I liked.

To be honest I was forcing myself to play it at start too + 9S sections were chore to play imo (didn't like him at all), but later stages were so good and 3rd arc. Loved philosophical/existential twist in this game. And pascal's ending genuinely made me emotional and sad.

I can understand how someone feel that way about Route B but personally without Route B the Route C wouldn’t be that impactful......at least for me.

I'll fully admit that 2B is what convinced me to play the game, but she's not the reason why it was one of my favorite games of last year, #2 behind Persona 5. The great characters, storyline, gameplay, and music are what kept me coming back.

Now, 2B being really sexy is what convinced me to buy her on Soul Calibur VI...

Maybe I'm wrong but such attitudes seem to spawn from internal insecurities, shame or prudishness. Even silliness is embraced by some, but when it comes to sexuality, it has to be behind closed doors, some people can't openly admit their attraction to sexual things.

In the other thread, I think JordanN put stats from pornhub showing that even one of women's top ranking search results is for lesbians. So if most men and it seems most women find women visually appealing, and we already know attractiveness is favored by most, it stands to reason that attractive women would also be visually appealing to most.

What does this post even mean? It's literally a contradiction. I feel like you're missing the point. This has little to do with people being afraid of expressing their sexuality. This has to do with people not wanting to invest money/time into a sexual gaming experience. If the main point of your game is that it's supposed to be arousing, I'm probably not going to play it, and I am certainly not going to invest my money/time in it. That doesn't mean I have some issue with my sexuality, maybe that's just not how I want to use it. However, the main point of NieR is not arousal, which is my whole point - that the game being is being falsely represented.

Your second paragraph seems to be arguing that most people would find women (in this context, 2B herself) attractive. I am not sure why you are arguing this, as I never assorted the contrary. 2B's hot as fuck, doesn't mean I would like people to go around and pretend that that is the sole focus of the game she's from.

Nier is a paradigm shift in narrative structure that's inherently tied to video games as a medium as the story unfolds through different playthroughs. I really liked how the game never shoehorns the player into its deeply abstract existential themes, but slowly reveals itself, challenging your preconceptions along the way. I can think of very few things that communicate a love for philosophy in such an entertaining and positive way as Nier Automata, for that alone it was one of the best games that I've played in recent years.

Why should 2B's deliciously bubbly butt take away from any of that? Those coming to the game for the great gameplay and the deep story certainly won't mind, and the people buying the game because of 2B's behind can ogle at her while being presented with an engaging story-line. If 2B's hypnotic well shaped rear can expose more people to the game's deep story, I'm all for it. If you are put off by something as inoffensive as a butt, you're probably not the person who would appreciate this game's existential themes anyway.

In any case, it's a win win situation.

I think the best thing about Nier is the music. The first time I stepped out into the world and heard City of Lights my jaw dropped. It reminded me of "Moon" by Gabriela Robin aka Yoko Kanno of Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell fame (RIP Origa )
