Nintendo Fans: How do you feel about the Switch Brand?

The hardware, branding and logo are all gross. But the promise is there and that's what gets me excited.

The composition of the logo reminds me of the Gamecube.

I like it.

It's a clean break from the Wii and DS, and that's a good thing.

Based on the reactions of the non game playing people in my life, it's a pretty good brand, keeping in mind that for 99% of people every Nintendo console is just "a Nintendo" whatever actual name it may have been given.

Overall I think it's a step in the right direction. The Wii stuff was sticking around much longer than it should have. This whole thing was a bold change for Nintendo and I'm very interested in it.

You have to think we won't really refer to it as the Nintendo Switch, but eventually just Switch or The Switch. I like it

Its fine.

Its a name. Its a thing. Its a tangible word that people can easily grasp and understand. It gets the job done.

WiiU was a next level branding disaster. So this is miles above it.

It gets the message across immediately which is what Nintendo desperately wants after the Wii U fiasco but as a name I don't really like it. Seems to marketing-y to me.

I dont really like the name Switch but it aint a deal breaker. I like the logo, but dont think it should be plastered like that on the dock,it looks huge and misplaced.
But i'll be there day 1

It is a functionally good name, but it lacks style and impression. Can't think of anything more clever though so I'll give it a pass. :P

It sounds so awkward say.

"Oi, mate, where's your Switch?"
"The lights are already on mate!"

It doesn't sound very game-y, and it feels awkward when I have to say The Switch or Switch. It sounds like the name for a film.

Finally we get a clean break from the Wii/DS era that has extended until this day, so the change is welcome. The logo is simple enough to be understood by the masses, and it is quite striking at first glance. I like it.

Shame about the typography of the console name, but I suppose I'll grow to it. The only thing I don't really like is having both the logo and the name carved into the dock - I understand it is for mindshare purposes, but it's too on the nose for my tastes.

Name is good and works on various levels, it's generic but can become a common name and most importantly it conveys what it does for the most part. Most of what the OP mentioned can be said about pretty much any console name, especially from Nintendo.

With that said I do think the concept is a little hard to understand with all the switching it seems rather intimidating and the opposite of what the Wii remote was.

I don't know how you can pass judgement right now. I think it is way too early! Do people remember the reaction to the Wii unveiling?

This was also a wasted opportunity from Nintendo of America to use this perfect song:

Totally agree!

I dig it. Finally moving on from the Wii branding and still being very Nintendo. Part of the Wii U's problem was its name. It wasn't original and it confused people. The Switch is exactly what it sounds like. The console switches between whatever you want. It's simple and I think it's going to work.

I like the logo, not a fan of the name personally (it's way too simple/basic), but at the same time, it'll be easy to market and incorporate in most slogans (make the switch, switch on, etc).
They dropped the wii brand to avoid being mistaken as a peripheral, and they didn't make the horrible communication mistakes of the WiiU, so that's good.
That first ad was good. Interesting target, well made, really good sound design for the logo (satisfying click that people will remember when they see the logo), etc.

That's pretty promising for now in terms of message tbh.

Above all else I love the return to the red and white theme for Nintendo. Perfect time to do it with a system that will be their only one going forward.

The 'tch' at the end of 'Switch' makes it awkward to say. Right now I feel like a goon saying it in a sentence when referring to a video game console.

Better than Xbox 1 in name. Logo is red and white so it automatically wins on that front, as well as it making sense in the context of the systems capabilities. The console itself is great because it looks like a Wii U tablet done correctly.

It's fine. Really. The logo reminds people of Domino's because the Domino's logo... is also a Domino. It's on purpose. Dominos are related to the idea of games. It's also a Yin Yang symbol. It's also the controller layout. Super memorable.

The name itself is pretty great. It communicates the action of switching, so that when people wanna play the console, they can just say "Hey, wanna Switch?" just like Facebook and Snapchat have become verbs in their own right. It also tells the functionality of the console. It's also representative of Nintendo "making a switch".

There's a lot behind the name, it being a cute one-syllable word which works with a lot of slogans is a cherry atop the sundae.

Ultimately it what matters is distancing itself from the Wii and Wii U which is enough, people will end up calling it "The Nintendo" anyway, which works even better since it's both consoles in one.

...Have we all jumped the shark here when it comes to awkward/cringe-culture?

It looks a bit like a melts eyed mutants face, but that's still a step up from the WiiU.

I've no opinion on the typeface and logo broadly, but I like the retro red and white look.

As for the name, well it's fine. A bit dull, but makes sense for what it is.

OG red and white branding and the device looks slick and functional. I love it.
Yeah, making red their "brand color" is the big win here. As is the better design for hardware. Tough to call this "Fischer Price", though I don't doubt someone will try.

It's a little more grown-up, it conveys what the console is as concisely as possible, and it separates itself from the Wii and DS brands. I think it works. I like the Yin-Yang logo as well.

I like it. Nintendo Switch has a nice ring to it. While the Nintendo name is integrated with the finalized title better than I expected. I still feel the system should be established as it's own brand. If you ask me, I think Nintendo should just drop its brand from the name all together and just call it the Switch once the console has enough time on the market, similar to what Sega did with the Dreamcast mid-way through its life.

Switch is kind of hard to pronounce for non-english speakers

I dont know how I feel about it tbh. The logo is cool I guess? But it is too big imo.

I dunno, at first, Switch just seems a little strange name for a console. Better than Wii U for sure! It makes sense though and I'll get used to it. I really like the logo and how it's kind of a ladybug, kind of a yingyang symbol.

Aren't there rumors that Nintendo will offer different types of Joy-Con attachments. If people went nuts for simple N3DS faceplates, just imagine when they can get themed or custom attachments.

Switch doesn't just mean switching from home to portable, it could also mean switching the joy-con accessories but I think they're keeping that under wraps for now to avoid confusing people. Collectors are gonna go nuts for this stuff.

"Switch your style up"

I actually like it quite a bit. It's simple, it's catchy, the logo is instantly recognizable, and it's not a silly made-up word. Branding is also age-agnostic. It's not too try-hard at being "grown-up" but neither the logo nor the name nor the console design scream "this is a kid's toy".

I give big props to Nintendo on the presentation of this thing. I think the branding is very well put together.

EDIT: I would've preferred a dark gray brush metal finish on the hardware rather than matte black, but that's just kind of nitpicking at this point.
