Nintendo Fans: How do you feel about the Switch Brand?

I like it. Zero complaints.

I like the Nintendo Red. I like the strong, one-syllable word -- "Switch" compared to "Playstation 4 Pro," for instance -- and that, as mentioned above, it does what it says.

It's basically all the good aspects of "Wii," but more . . . professional? Mature? Hard to say: it does the job without alienating anyone, and absolutely no one's getting confused with it, unlike the Wii U debacle.

I like the logo with the red background. That looks really cool. But when it is actually on the console I don't think it looks as good. Console itself though looks pretty dang cool though.

I like the name too! I'm not sure why but I just do.

I like the name Switch. Probably will call it the NS though. Actually when you think about it, if you put docking station in a flat position (where you would enter the switch console into the docking station like a vcr tape), I kinda reminds you of the NES (the one we got in the US, loading the cartridges from the front). Also, in its current configuration (loading the switch into to the docking station from the top), it is comparable to the Japanese Famicon setup of loading cartridges.

It does what I always wanted a console to do. You could call the Nintendo Poop Vision X and I'd buy one. Can you tell I have a small child?

It could've been worse.

Imagine that in red.

It's mediocre. Gamecube-level branding mediocre, not WiiU-level branding shitty.

They should just go back to the NES-style branding. I'm still holding out for an Ultra Nintendo Entertainment System someday.

Think of all the marketing puns the name lends itself to.

"Make the Switch."

"Flip the Switch."

"Switch it up."

The branding writes itself.

It's not perfect, but it's damn good.

Things it does right, IMO:

+Escapes WiiU branding
+Solidifies itself as a new console
+It's easy to say regardless of accent or age; one-syllable
+It's a layered name (Switch to Nintendo, Switch from PS4/Xbox, Switch from what we've done in the past... and of course, switch between TV gaming and portable gaming)
+It immediately grabs casual's attention - "Switch" is different enough and has enough meaning that people ask "what is that?"

Neutral:

= Doesn't call back to any other Nintendo System/brand pre-WiiU (i.e. calling it the N.E.X."
= The logo itself is kind of... big? It requires a lot of vertical space

Negative:

- Marketing may help (I'm sure it will), but I wonder how well people will understand we're not getting a new GameBoy/DS/3DS. This is BOTH.
- Considering everything "Switch" does right in the positives... it's not terribly creative. But then again, Microsoft went three-gens with the name Xbox, so what do I know

Biggest "NO:"

That awful, boring font.

It's fine, just forgettable. I said it in the announcement thread, but I really don't like it when companies name their stuff after common words.

Also the logo looks like a derpy robot.

I personally like it, but more importantly, I think the message is clear and to the point. Which already puts it miles ahead of their last launch.

It's great. It's something that can be remembered easily I think. With the right advertising it can probably get people excited again.

Logo and name are pretty bad. Although given nintendo's issues marketing the wiiu, i guess it makes sense to go with something that is easy to explain and who's name also indicates something about its concept.

I like that they came back to red. Wishe they'd go back to nes though. Stick to one thing, and throw a number after it whennyou release the next version, a la ps4.

clever name. it carries with it a sense of changing tracks - exactly what N needs to do in the wake of popular indifference to Wii U.

plus "switch" is a cool word to say.

The name itself is fine, in the context of the device. Leaps better than Wii or WiiU. However, what happens down the road when the "platform ecosystem" that Nintendo mentioned comes to pass? Are they going to continue to call the platform, that supports future Nintendo consoles, the NX platform? NintendOS? They've said they want to mimic iOS and iPhones, going forward, for their ecosystem design. They should have shortened the video a tad, and given some mention to what they are calling the platform. "Nintendo Switch: Powered by NintendOS." Something like that. They certainly can't keep using "Switch" to reference all of their future devices, like PlayStation or Xbox. If that was the goal... they needed to come up with a better name. If they don't reveal some unifying platform term soon, all it will do is lead to confusion down the road. And consumers have already shown they can't deduce anything on their own (WiiU being a controller addon for Wii, etc.).

I do like the logo, especially animated, and with the "click." That should totally be the startup animation for the console.

As a Sony/Xbox gamer and having the gamecube as the last Nintendo console, I smiled the entire time during the video.

Wish there was BC though.

Dunno if mentioned, but I think this tittle is very catchy for the japanese audience.

スイッチ, "Suicchi". It's that kinda english word that sounds cute.

The name i'm indifferent about - simple, though not memorable - but the I hate the logo; it looks like it has derpy eyes. If they had the Analog stick leveled, I feel it would have been better:

Or even have it stylized to look like an 'S':

Yeah maybe not for a native english speaker :p
I pronounce it the same way.

Oh my gosh that "S" is such a missed opportunity. OMG! Well done.

That's brilliant.

It's good. Not terribly creative, but it didn't overthink itself into madness like Wii U.

- People know what switch means, in a variety of forms (light switch, switch it up, etc.)
- The concept was conveyed easily enough

This is pretty awesome. Surely there's some way they can merge this without losing the effect of either, maybe as a start up sequence?

I'm neutral in general but will but it since I buy all Nintendo consoles. The name is kind of meh but is better than their last 2 attempts. I want to like the logo but hate it personally, I know they put the circles where the control sticks are but it's a logo so it doesn't have to be exact. I would much prefer a symmetrical yin-yang style. As for the rest, I don't know. I've long since stopped trying to figure out what people like so I have no idea about marketing.

The connection to the YinYang symbol is neat, however I'm not so sure it was intentional but rather a happy accident. For what it's worth, I immediately thought it was the Domino's Pizza logo.

Hopefully they'll confirm the inspiration for the logo. Now I'm noticing how it looks like it is representing an I/O switch, open circuit, closed circuit. (Not 100% representative, but you get the idea when you see the word switch.)

Nintendo's successor to Switch is already in an early state of planning and R&D.

Nintendo codename Circuit Breaker :P

Switch >>> Wii U

The Switch rolls off the tongue beautifully, works with their branding and best of all makes sense. What the hell is "Wii U" supposed to mean? We You? The Wii was people coming together to play games ("we"), what was the "U" supposed to be? The U turn customers made when they saw the system on store shelves?

I thought the "U" was supposed to mean the shape of the gamepad. I thought this was well known? Or maybe I'm just mistaken.

I don't care, I'm not Head of Marketing for Nintendo, who probably researched on this topic the last 3 years with actual data (surveys etc) and not only a single opinion from someone who discovered it half a day ago.

Switch to me sounds like a good name for a peripheral, not a console. I would have preferred a name that is more grounded in what the actual product is, not just one particular use case for it.

Well, I would have played the nostalgia card really hard and called it an Ultra Nintendo or something.

But I like this a lot. It gets the point across. I saw the name before I saw the trailer and I knew based on the name it would be the rumored hybrid console/portable.

Everything about this just seems like a stopgap rather than a system you're going to enjoy for the next 5+ years. Like this is a Wii U revision or something. I guess I'll wait for the full on reveal and the games to decide, its still too early. I am intrigued though.

I liked the trailer a lot. The music and the sound effect in particular was catchy. I can see that clicking sound effect leading every Nintendo Switch ad for the lifespan of the console.

I like the logo too. Nice and clean but still obviously Nintendo.

If this thing fails, I'm confident that the branding of it will not be a contributing factor.
