I have a wierd issue using the GameCube adapter with my Wavebird, the analog stick behaves very oddly, sometimes it inputs more than once, sometimes doesn't respond at all, once even went in the wrong direction. Regular controller seems to work (but doesn't reach to my couch!), is this a known issue with Wavebirds or has mine bitten the dust?

I've never used a WaveBird with Nintendont, but that behavior sounds like it could just be wireless interference. Have you tried a different channel on the WaveBird and receiver? I've also encountered behavior with the receiver where you need to unplug and replug it into the system a few times to get it to pick up the controller's signal.
 
Widescreen forcing is even better now, perfect in Smash Bros Melee and Twilight Princess:

It's also fantastic in Timesplitters 2...but unfortunately brings random crashes along with it in that game due to the increased rendering space. ah well.

Is there a way to run a widescreen patch with a physical disc copy?

I got my Wii U like 2 weeks ago but only today I finally found time to set everything up. It all worked like a charm, but then started playing Sin & Punishment 2 on Wii mode and the screen would sometimes go dark and back to normal at random intervals. :(

I am praying so hard that this is a HDMI or a TV problem. I would die if I got a bad Wii U and the first thing I did with it was voiding the warranty. :( :( :(

EDIT: actually someone uploaded a video documenting my same problem, any advice GAF?

Why don't you try it on another tv and using a different HDMI cable?

That looks to me like the HDMI cord is too tightly wound up or routed at a sharp angle. It happens on all my devices where that is the case. Try readjusting your HDMI cable to whre it can stretch out more freely with no sharp turns.

What's the best storage option for those? Something that reads fast enough for no lag and enough storage to hold 25 games or so?

I forgot to follow up on this. After much research, I came to the conclusion that the issue was the TV. One way to solve it is to switch the output to 1080i, it's not ideal but it works.

What kind of TV do you have? That doesn't sound like much of a solution... If your set is incapable of 1080p you should go 720p if possible.

Doesn't do anything with Wii U side of the system. Everything involving the Wii U is completely irrelevant.

Has anyone tried The Twin Snakes with this? Wiki says it may randomly softlock during cutscenes, just like Dolphin crashes. Does it happen often?
I still have my old wii, but no component cables.

I played it from start to finish a month or so ago with no problems. I have an i5 3570K at stock and ran it at 1080p with 2x the resolution.
 
It works amazingly well. Boogles my mind that Nintendo didn't do this themselves to make money. XBOX ONE had to program a miracle to gain BC, Nintendo has it all ready to go in hardware.

the price Nintendo had to pay to have native BC wasn't worth it imo. the current gen games are held back because of this.

I haven't personally used those, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no. You get what you pay for.

I recommend the new smash bros official gamecube controllers.

I also bought a GC controller adapter, but I am using my old GC controller. It's still in very good shape, they are remarkably more durable than N64 ones.

It feels flat out AMAZING, I almost forgot how fucking incredible the GC controller is. It's videogame porn.

We sell these at our shop. They usually work. They feel different and cheaper. Sticks don't roll around on the gate smoothly like on the stock. L/R buttons' digital click is usually really mushy and not distinct.

Nintendo brand is ideal. Grab a Smash controller or a WaveBird for the best.

I wanna move my stuff over from a USB to an SD. I can't find a saves folder. if I just move over the apps folder will I be fine?

Seriously. I'm using it as my main controller for PC games. Despite being somewhat annoying to get working with different games, it's just so good...

OG Gamecube controllers aren't too bad (<$20 on ebay). I guess I'll just be safe and go that route.

Definitely make sure you get new ones--I bought some used ones a while back, and thought they were good at the time... but compared to my new controllers, the worn-out joysticks don't feel as good.

I bought some smash brothers ones new on Amazon for ~$22 last week.
 
I read that the MCEmu is not 100% stable and that maybe we should make backups of our saves regularly. But do we really need to? I'm kinda lazy to do that and I didn't find any registry of someone not using Multi (I'm using 1 MC per game) and having issues with the saves.

Did memory card corruption on Nintendont ever happened to anyone around here? Is this a thing?

Well Kururin Squash froze for me and I lost my 80% complete save game. Pretty gutted, until I remembered I had a backup at about 70%.

So my answer is, if you'd be distraught losing the save game then back it up.

I did it through Wii file manager that let me zip up my current save game. Next time I would delete the zip and zip the updated save game. Very easy.

Those suck. I mean like... they REALLY suck. Go with first party for GCN stuff.

Ouch, yeah, no I don't want that happening to me. I'll keep a back up, losing saves is quite possibly my biggest fear in gaming.

I know there's been a decent amount of discussion on SD cards over the last couple pages, so sorry for being redundant, but are there any specific factors I should be looking for in an SD card or all they all pretty much created equal? I already have an old 2GB non-SDHC card for specific functions relating to installing/reinstalling homebrew as needed. Right now I'm looking for something primarily for holding all of my Gamecube games at once (plus some other random Wii homebrew like Project M and NewerSMB).

What I'm looking for, from most important to least:

1) fast read speeds
2) high capacity
3) low failure rate
4) cost-effectiveness

Any product attributes or brands that I should be looking at? Or does it not really matter?

Doing some preliminary testing and it seems Nintendont has about 22ms of extra lag on Wii U compared to running games natively on the Gamecube. I need to go through the footage to get a more precise number, but it's definitely more than a frame.

Seems I can't box away the Cube for good after all.

I tested both the Gamecube and the Wii U on the same display at the same resolution (480p component) with the same controller. The only enhancement I used on Nintendont was memory card emulation (all other extras = off), and I also had to plug the controller through the GCN USB adapter.

Wow... I would've thought the GCN controller adapter caused more lag than 4ms. Impressive stuff.

How about just regular Wii mode on Wii U vs. an OG Wii? Is the same lag difference present?

The lag in the USB adapter is probably entirely dependent on the USB polling rate, and it probably even varies between Nintendont and other software. I remember reading tweets where, previously, Nintendont's polling rate on USB devices was 33ms (which means that the button press would lag anywhere between 0 to 33ms depending on which part of that interval you pressed the button, which would just be awful and feel incredibly inconsistent), but it was shortened to somewhere between 6ms to 10ms in a later update. My 4ms average reading for the adapter on Wii would peg the polling rate at about 8ms (4 is halfway between 0 and 8), so that checks out. Not perfect, but not something you'd notice, either.

(FYI: Dedicated controller ports, not USB, tend to have a sub-1ms polling rate.)

I'd like to check a regular Wii retail game on both Wii and Wii U (no homebrew) to see if there's an inherent difference in how the two consoles handle Wii games, but I'd have to hack up a classic controller to do it. Maybe later.
