Nioh |OT| Stamina is Ki

That was just a joke, this isn't a troll title. Like I said, it's something I find very endearing and what made me excited for Nioh.

That reminds me I forgot to put that somewhere in the OT.

Oh yeah, that's true.

Its all good. They'll be plenty of threads. Lets not derail from this great game. I was just giving kurosawa his props.

Its not that deep man its just a boring title you guys will forget about it by tonight anyways 😴😴😴😴

Im just glad it wasnt the Cringe that was "NiOH Gaf" lol

High stance axe/mace exclusively is what I expect. A balanced level path (I think you sort of have to with how gear works). Spirit animal? Iunno, Nick Cage probably:

But for real, the spirit animals are the one thing I didn't care for in the alpha/beta/last chance. They feel sorta like fluff.

Their stats are pretty heavily tied into spirit, 13 seems to be the magic number you want to have for farming etc. Also, spirit guardians are a lot more entertaining if you go heavy Onmyo and use the summon spell to attack with them.

OP PMed me and others for advice on how to improve OT and used none of it it seems.

It's missing so much info.

Everything behind spoiler tags, no Q&A, no basic info on game size, DLC, etc etc

I did add the thinks you wanted and I also explained (as well as the OT does) why the images are spoiler tagged.

Q&A is there as well as size.

For the Last Chance trial I went all Ninjutzu, Onmyo and Spirit Animal. Was pretty fun set. I know I will incorporate these stats into a very balanced set. They give you a lot more leeway with bosses and harder enemies than dodging everything.

I gotta say I never felt much for the spears except for poking. I will stick to an Axe and Dual Katana build which did me a lot of favours. I love the spinning axe move too much to not use it again.

Balanced build is great because you can then use all spirits effectively, don't rely on consumables as much (Oasis + Reju + Elemental talismans from magic and poisons, antipoisons, antiparalytics, extra ammo from Ninjitsu).

Still kinda hate how some enemies like the crazy ass demon chick from the final beta, the jumping attack for example had some mad tracking on it. Really do not like it when devs do that with enemy attacks. Since it totally screws with dodging things when they can magnetically follow your movements turning in mid air etc.

Figured out how to get around it, but the fact that they made it that way is the problem that I have with the design. Do hope there are not many enemies that do that in the full game.

Hey, if something is missing in the OT I will gladly add it. I asked multiple people to check my OT if everything is fine, I did the modifications as requested but if some more stuff is needed I will add it right away, that's why I'm here.

Hm, will give it a shot. Do we know if the re-spec item is easy enough to run across in the final game?

Aha, half the fun of something like Ninja Gaiden is nailing those dodges though.

Maybe go look at other OTs like Yakuza 0 and GR2 to see the staggering difference in quality and how 50% of their OT is not in spoiler tags. This game deserved a better OT. Damn shame :(

Anyway, back to focusing on the game...must use spear more this time around!

Spear is by far the easiest weapon to use when you are first coming to grips with the game's systems because you can keep your enemies at range. You can also deal with a group of enemies pretty easily since the spear has very wide sweeping attacks. It's how I first beat the alpha. Next, I would say Axe since you can deal a lot of damage very quickly with it in just a few short attacks. You don't need to do very many special moves or anything to get your damage in before dodging out.

I go back and forth on the next one between the two sword variations. I think the basic katana can get you pretty far without really knowing any of its moves, but I think because of how many abilities and techniques it has, mastering it and fully utilizing it's potential takes some time. Parries are amazing though. WIth the dual katana, you can also toss out damage pretty easily, but you don't have very many defensive moves. I think you really need to know how to dodge and ki pulse to make the most out of this weapon. It still has a pretty easy moveset overall though.

Kusarigama is probably the most advanced weapon. I think you really need to understand your enemies' movement and attack capabilities to use it effectively. I also feel like you need to use this weapon's special abilities constantly to make the most out of it.Lots of tripping of enemies and pulling them close to you. Making the most out of grapple and Final Blow.

Honestly none of the images need spoiler tags whatsoever, these are all images made available to the general public and were all used for marketing. Theres no bosses being shown or anything, and last with the spirit animal, that one is choosable from the start of the game.

Worst enemies in the game are
the fire wheels
by far. God, I hate those f*****

Yeah, good grief I hate those so much. They remind me way too much of those skeleton wheels from Dark Souls 1, especially when it comes to the frustration factor.

Ok, I just did it for people who wanted to play the game blind.

Is there a day one patch and if so how big is it? My internet just shit itself and I'm currently only capable of downloading at the super-sonic speed of 600kbps...

Both the spear and kusarigama though you need to pay a bit more attention to the distance between yourself and the enemy though. Esp the kusarigama depending on what attacks you use. But agree that it seems the kusarigama is the more advanced weapon with its odd moveset, plus making the most of being mobile to keep switching up your distance with the target. The ability to throw the weighted end is great though, used it a lot to peck at enemies from a distance before deciding to move in.

I always had thought the axe was the easiest to use just due to the sheer amount of damage you can deal with it. Plus causes some nasty knockback to enemies. Its why you kinda get messed up if you switch to other weapons that does not have the same punch as the axe.

You have one respec itemin inventory from the start. Not sure how you get more, I think I'm only halfway so far. Hard to say since I've tried not to spoil myself.

That IGN 9.6 really drove a lot of sales I think. I ordered my copy of Nioh this afternoon and now 6 hours later, its sold out at the same website (ozgameshop).

Huh so much for wordplay title Stamina is Ki.

Anyway going katana with some ninjutsu the shuriken too useful for luring enemies in demos. Although seems they nerfed fire shuriken in last chance demo they used to ruin the Yoki.

When you see a enemy with a axe you know you won just wait for that jumping swing to whiff punish with a kick then finish em.

Is there any daytime gameplay? Or all of the gameplay occured during night time?

From what I understand, side-quests usually occur in story maps during different times of the day, and with different weather conditions.

This is still faster than my usual max speed :(

you have no idea what it's like to look at this thread title with the power to change it but not the justification

Don't do it IMHO. Stan Sakai is the man and Usagi Yojimbo is awesome.

Loved the alpha, beta and the Last Chance demo, made my pre order of the Deluxe version a long time ago. Unfortunately I won't be able to play the game at launch due to work reasons...ahhh the weekend is so far away... :-(

Didn't get a chance to mess around with the kusarigama in last demo. By your impressions, seems to be the most technical weapon. Looking forward to my kusarigama naked run as well now! I wanna do naked runs with all the weapons & targeted builds for each. Thank fuck we can respec!

Stan Sakai and Usagi Yojimbo are classic status, so I at least can't fault the OP that much. At least it isn't a title that contains "Niohgaf" or anything of the sort.

Anyway...one more sleep until I can play this in full. The wait from the Alpha to now will soon be at an end!

Yeah I totally agree. It makes this more interesting than the usual slow (Souls) or aggressive type of style (DMC, Bloodborne) of playing.

I was surprised when I found out that my spirit animals could also be used as items and that they are powerful enough to make bosses fall back (the ogress). It is also very handy to have stat boosts and temporary immunity which made the vampire lady more bearable as I couldnt be paralyzed/stunned. I will also explore the mad parry opportunities (thanks to those videos ive seen). I also enjoy sneaking up on enemies too.

I gotta admit that it makes the bosses a bit exhausting, but I kinda like it compared to the usual slow big clunky bosses in games. However I wouldnt complain having both. I gotta admit that the demon/vampire lady was exhausting and intense to play compared to the others. I didnt like either how I had to relock on her after she started flying.

When it comes to bosses, the duels are the best of the battles in the game I gotta say from all three trials.

One thing I also sucked at in the beta was finding the last shrine green dood. I found them all in all levels except for the first one. It is going to be annoying but I think I might cheat and look up locations if I cant figure it out on my third play through of the first level.

Aha, half the fun of something like Ninja Gaiden is nailing those dodges though.

Of course it makes winning more satisfying but I gotta admit I die a lot on bosses due to silly impatience and mistakes. So I will probably use some cheap tricks at times if I feel too cornered! I dont know how many retries I did with the duel. It was an amazing fight but I did make use of that handy placed rocks when I had to either clear those psyclops or fight that Samurai to survive. Now I will have some spirit animals to throw at them when they get too close and I run out of Ki.

I will definitely prioritize Ki so I am able to step back more if dodging is too difficult.

I just read that you can't play coop until you or both players have beaten the mission? That seems incredibly backwards. Anyone hear anything on this?

You know what Niohgaf? Stamina really is Ki.

General question for you all:

How will you play the game on your initial run? In terms of weapon choice, character level path, and your spirit animal.
I liked every weapon I found in the beta, so I'll probably alternate between them. I played a good chunk of the beta with an axe because it did a lot of damage in a short amount of time. I ended up using that water katana for the rest of the beta since it melted through everything. As for level, I'm definitely going to put points in Stamina and Ninjustsu. Obviously I'm going look at the other stats as well, but getting ki is definitely preferable to me.

I went with the Hawk, not because of the stats, but for the looks. William will be a glamurai, stats be damn. Fashion > all.

you have no idea what it's like to look at this thread title with the power to change it but not the justification

There's plenty of justification - just look at how many are requesting it and the several pages on the other thread too.

It's only because we're passionate about this game.

Desperate to play this - and for me the OT name is sadly lacking. Such a minor issue of course - but something that could be easily fixed to stop us moaning...

On topic - been watching lots of youtube videos the last half hour - gained some new tips :)

For me, it also doesn't help that its dex focused >_<

Ah makes sense. I'm not super focused on speccing any sort of way. Right now I just ensure my health is high and that I'm raising the damage of my preferred weapon. Problem is, it took a while before I realized I loved that particular weapon, so I already dumped a few points into Str and such.

Have any reviews or people with the game mentioned respecing at all?

After a few fights I started to just stay super close to her and went ham with the kusarigama whenever there was an opening. Would cause her to flinch? I suppose from all the consecutive hits that it allowed me to get a few more in on occasion. While the damage was not super high, it added up pretty fast. Then going into that spirit mode thing helped boost the damage output even more.

I had an item that would give me a pretty audible sound when I was near those little kodama spirits. At least Im guessing thats what it did judging from the description, so with that thing constantly equipped managed to find them all fairly easily when was wandering all over the map.

Canada Post just updated to Out for Delivery! Guess im getting to play 9 hours before Midnight! First amazon experience not only do it get it cheaper but i get it a day in advance!

I feel like I've asked this several times during the beta OT but I'm curious if there's any other spear users around. I had a lot of trouble with this game in the alpha but the spear moveset really worked for me in the last chance trial.

What moves did you find the most useful? The mid stance poke is great, and the light attack is useful too. High stance light is very good and leads into an extremely damaging, but ki-intensive combo. I found no purpose for high stance strong, and I'm not sure what the low stance attacks are for. I barely got into the advanced moves like the vault, but it seems cool. Just curious how everyone else was using the weapon since it's what I'll be focusing on at least at first.
