As far as I can see, every stat does something explicitly useful. Of course, power gamers might find ways to min/max beyond what people can tell you after having played the game for 3 or 4 days, but there is no obvious dump stat like resistance, no.

Gahdamnit! REALLY long? As part of my anti-backlog campaign for 2017, I am trying to get into a habit of not buying another game until the last one is cleared. Right now I'm working on Yakuza 0 and think I could be ready for Nioh maybe a week after it comes out. However, to hell with being stuck trying to finish this when Switch and Breath of the Wild come out...
 
Oh my this is my first visit to this game's OT. IM so pumped I can't stand it. Thinking of kusarigama and dual Katanas. What you guys think?? And what kinda stats are those?? Huge dark souls franchise fan and player but goin into this game blind as hell.
 
How is the difficulty in this compared to the souls/Gaiden series? I loved both but from what Ive seen this doesn't look to be as difficult.
 
OK so Nioh is amazing, first 2 demos it was kinda good but DS games aren't for me (only finished Demon's Souls), didn't try 3rd demo, the full game is so good!

It's also easier than demo IMO, in the 3rd stage I was doing so well, then died after killing everything hard, then small Yokai killed me lol, I returned to kill it but forgot to collect my souls (forgot the name here) then died again and lost like 30K. XD

I have a question, there's something that you can put on the ground and it guides you with something else, any idea what's its purpose?

It's like Souls difficulty, NG is a lot easier if compare it with Nioh.

Virtually the same, perhaps a wee bit harder but that might be my imagination. I played Demon's Souls more than half a decade ago. And also, while I can't transfer any mechanical skill from Souls to Nioh as both are too different, I'd say Souls taught me the right attitude to approach these games and that is helping. So it's hard to compare the difficulties as the variables are not independent. Playing one game will make you better at the other.

Lost 24k Amrita just earlier because I was so tilted by dying narrowly to a hard enemy that I just wanted to get shit done and recover my soul. Turns out that attitude gets me killed against even mid sized enemies. :/
 
So, how much do we know about performance on regular ole' PS4? I'm aware of the 2 modes for FPS, but the idea of 720p for 60FPS gameplay kinda sticks in my craw.

I've watched a few videos of the section from the original demo to avoid spoilers and it looks smooth as heck, but none of them mention whether they are playing on PS4 or PS4 Pro.


EDIT: Went back a few pages and saw the DF video. Alright, I'm good.
 
I feel like the camera is pulled so far back compared to the last chance demo. And the UI looks tiny as hell. Took a while to adjust. But, I am having an absolute blast playing this.

I'm also interested in a kurasigama and dual katana build. I think Dexterity and Skill are the stats to go, with some points in body to increase that health and wear light armor. That's at least what I'm planning to do. Really hyped too!!
 
Best Buy just delivered my copy early. First game I've ever had delivered early from them, and I'm not even 1/10th as hyped as most the community here. Feels... unfair? Sorry guys.

I only have an hour to play tonight. As someone who hasn't played any of the previews, is it worth starting up, or should I wait till this weekend when I have a bigger block of time?

I also have no idea what stats I should actually focus on even though I am mostly messing around with dual katana (skill) and axe/hammer (strength) right now.

All though you love dark souls, I would recommend the kurisigama right away just because it is a lot more complicated weapon and the combat is rather different from dark souls. The dual katanas are great but I'd say wet your feet before the kurisigama.

Equipment weight is too high imo. A or B rating in agility should be good.

edit: Stats are fine.
 
I'm so ready to play this, it's so close. The gameplay and level design seems amazing from what I've played and read on here, but I haven't seen anything about the story and lore . How is the story, lore, and characters?
 
I was going to get it regardless but the last chance demo was so much better than the previous two, it really sold me on it. I've watched some people battle some samurai boss in a grassy field only to get ruined real quick. Its gonna take some patience and tactics I guess.

Reviews say it's incomprehensible, over the top, and light-hearted. A lot of them have enjoyed that though.
 
I haven't played a single one of the betas. Knew I was going to buy it. Going into the game tonight/tomorrow more or less blind. Looks like it is going to be a lot of deaths at first! Looking forward to a new BB type game.
 
Is there an understood set of chosen preferred weapons/spirit at the start of the game to ensure a balanced build to use whatever? Or does it even matter since they only give a +1?
 
Awesome that the best OT title got used, although I thought a few people were saying a ridiculous one was already locked.

Anyway, has anyone else been on a mostly media blackout with this? I never played the beta since I didn't have a system at the time, and the only thing I've watched was two different mechanics videos. Even after all of the Souls games since Demon's, I'm having similar feelings I had when I went into that game blind. It's one of the few games where I'm sure expectations are going to be met.
