After hours of trying, I cannot for the life of me beat this first-ish boss on the ship. I understand what the game wants me to do and take it slow and watch for indications of what the boss is going to do, and I try my best to do that, but I feel like I get caught in his spin attack as I'm trying to dodge away from him and I feel like I dodge attacks at the right time but still get punished for it. I seem to do very little damage to it and I haven't found a way to effectively farm healing items.

I honestly feel like I'm missing something really important. I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong. If this is an indication of the rest of the game, with it getting more difficult, then I'm not sure I really want to play it anymore.
Sounds like the dodge timing isn't clicking for you. For healing items, ypu can offer your bad gear at the shrine to get new elixirs, or find kodama for permanent extra ones, but on the dodge timing I'd say just put the game down and come back to it later.

I've got a problem: i bought the digital deluxe edition, I got every dlc that came with it except the season pass, that is still listed for 24.99. Is this normal?

Focus mainly on depleting his Ki at the start of the battle. After each attack his head is lowered. Hit his horn while his head is down to do max ki damage. Just whittle it down. Once it's all the way down go all out and get as many attacks in as you can. When he recovers he'll start trying to throw the metal balls at you sprint to the side to avoid the and then get close enough so that he tries to belly flop attack you. Dodge out the way of the belly flop and then attack his horn again while he is recovering. Rinse and repeat for victory

Maybe I missed it earlier but did anyone else who preordered from Best Buy get multiple DLC codes for what seems to be the same thing?
Yeah, I did. Share the wealth, that's what I did. Make sure you get yours and pass em on. I didn't have enough for everyone and I know some still need them. Also I'm pretty sure they are region specific.

The kodama work by region. So presumably the next missions would be located in a different region with a new set of kodama to collect.

That would be stupid grindy if they made you collect the same kodama again and started you from zero in terms of your blessing bonus.

I feel like because this game reminds me a lot of Bloodborne, in terms of the pacing, I forget that there is blocking... I just dodge.

I kinda love how even after the first cutscene I already had no idea what is going on with the story.

Is he following Kelley all the way to Japan just because he stole his spirit waifu? Or is there another reason? Also do all the bosses have reasons for being what they are, or are they just cool designs? Like what's the evil witch's backstory..

Well whats your build, what're your stats like, what weapons are you using?
Level 10, Body 9, Heart 10, Stamina 5, Strength 5, Skill 5, Dexterity 5, Magic 5, Spirit 8. Right now I have a level 8 katana with 120 attack, defense is at 146, toughness (?) is 228.
Have you tried guarding instead of dodging, using high stance and hitting his back?
I've tried guarding, but the spin attack wrecks my stamina meter. I've tried sticking with mid-low stance moves since they're quicker and I can better try to dodge out in time.

I suppose. It's frustrating to me that I'm this early into the game, had no problem dealing with the very first boss or any of the enemies, died very little, and then this roadblock happens and I can't pinpoint what exactly I'm doing that's wrong.

And do we know
why William had a ghost waifu in the first place? Was that part of the backstory exposition scene
?

Pretty much,
Kelley took his Guardian Spirit and followed him to Japan.

If you go to the Amrita Memories menu and go to Yokai Illustration you can see the backstory, and it reveals more of it piece by piece if you kill them multiple times.

Yeah,
Saoirse (the guardian spirit) was with him since he was a child around the time his parents died.

Do it this way then:

Run behind him, attack 2 times and back off.

Only 2 times, nothing more. Rinse and repeat.

Quick questions:

What is the point of going to that you-Kari (spirit world place)?

Then how to you parry and can I party with dual wielded swords, and the knife on chains thing?

Quoting so it's on another page but also I have another question?

A what's are the symbols on the bottom of my screen. I have a 13 on the blue sword, then a 6 on a purple flower, then a 2 on what looks like a pink remote

You either have to back up out of range of the spin each time or block. You cant really dodge out of it. I opted for an in and out strategy where I baited the boss to attack at the very edge of his range and backed out of range only to the punish him in his head down vulnerable stat after his attacks.

The boss is all about attack patterns. You have to learn his tells for each type of attack. Once you do you can avoid them and punish him. Try doing a run where you just bait all his phase 1 attacks and observe exactly what sounds and movements he makes before performing each one. Then after learning the tells for those attack try and get him to his second phase in the next run and do the same with his second phase attacks.

not soo far but Reached the
Spider Castle
, and there is a secret optional area behind the walls i don't know how to get there.

See, I must not have gotten to that explanation yet, cause right now I'm just a confused Englishman getting his ass handed to him by cavebat women.

Yes you can parry, you need to buy the skills for each weapon's parry move first though.

The symbols are the number of skill points you have for Samurai, Ninjutsu and Onmyou skills.

I had so much trouble with her in the beta and came into this scared as hell, but her attacks are so easy and fun to dodge once you get them down. I killed her easy on my second go.

The shuriken and Kunai are good for draining enemy ki. The kyakudama and Horokudama are the things you can deal out serious damage with. Later on you'll get access to elemental shuriken and those are really fantastic for draining ki on bosses and bigger enemies. If you stack multiple status ailments their ki drain goes up exponentially (so for example poison + burning) and allows you to put enemies ina ki drained state super quickly.

wowwww thanks, I'm gonna copy paste this somewhere so I remember. That sounds amazing, I gotta devote some time to practicing ninja skills.

The symbols at the bottom of your screen are for how many skill points you have. The sword are samurai skill points to use on your weapon skills, purple shuriken are your ninja skill points to spend on ninjitsu skills and the pink talisman are you Onmyou skill points to spend on Onmou magic skills.

The yokai realm is something enemies summon ont eh ground. It looks like an area of white and black corruption. When you are inside your Ki regen is halted. Very bad. But you cna dispell them by performing a Ki pulse.

As far as parry goes you have ot purchase the parry skill for whatever weapon it is you are using in order to perform the parry. It wil tell you how to perform it on the skill itself. You can even watch a video of how to perform the move when highlighting the skill in the skill menu.

Shit man, low attack is really fun. Especially on bosses

I'm currently trying to overcome the first real boss on the boat. I get the overall strat, I just need to play better lol

Anyone know what the hexagon means next to an item stat?

Hexagon means its not an inheritable stat. Basically if you infuse another peice of equipment iwth that equipment at the blacksmith it will not inherit that stat whatever it may be. At least if the symbol you are talking about is the one I am thinking of.

The bar with an arrow pointing to another bar is the inheritance icon.

The secret to killing any boss is just taking your time, honestly. Running in and getting greedy will almost always get you stunlocked and murdered.

I really want this game, but I have a decent backlog right now and I'm just complete shit at the game. I liked it but I could never grasp the mechanics properly in the demo's. I'm going to wait for a sale but I'll probably bite if it hits $40 in the coming months.

Yeah I came close to wrecking him and stupidly ran myself out of stamina by the time he was throwing balls. Bummer

Fight really isn't hard but like everything else in this game you don't get a chance to recover from a stupid mistake

I picked the bird for my spirit because I figured "evasion" would help vs. fire sword, didn't realize it'd make me an unlimited stamina killing machine. I love it

Man that bit of the Tower of London in the basement with all the items on the floor. No enemies. Did anyone else go into "Soulsborne" mode there? I walked down the steps, saw 3 or 4 items on the floor in one room and no enemies and thought "welp, this is clearly some kind of totally dickish trap where I'm going to get ambushed and done up the rear". So I went in, guard up, v e r y s l o w l y.

Then it turned out that no, it wasn't. It was just a room with some items. I kinda like that about Nioh. I felt like, by the DS3, Souls was just repeating the same arsehole tricks over and over. Feels like Nioh is very much inspired by it but also wants to be its own beast. It's definitely more my style - make combat difficult by virtue of mechanics, not by just having 3 guys randomly pop up from off screen and jump on you while another guy shoots an arrow from somewhere you could never have known about until it's killed you the first time.

Mark me down for another guy stuck in the ship Boss, I have no clue how I'm ever going to win here lol.

Quoting my posts on how to deal with the first boss here for you

Stay in Low stance for almost everything concerning bosses.

Dodge, dodge, dodge until you're behind him, and poke him ONCE with a heavy attack. Swap to High-stance for it and then back to Low afterward if you're feeling lucky.

In phase two, try and use your Guardian Spirit at least once after he does an attack which sends him to the ground.

Also, investing in Onmyodo works wonders. Debuffs and buffs for days.

Just beat
Hino-Enma
.. I hope the bosses are all like this. That was fun. I can't stop playing.

Are the sub missions worth doing?

Yes! I picked the wind spirit on a whim and I love it, but I finally got the one that I enjoyed from the demo that heals you when you get amrita, so I've been using that one now.

Hino-Enma
is utterly wrecking me.
I can't get her down past more than a third of her health before I get killed. I've even got a talisman that makes the projectile fail to paralyze me, and I'm still getting torn apart.

The paralyze is super easy to dodge, just use her scream as an audio-cue to dart left or right. Otherwise, keep her close enough she doesn't fly towards you, but far enough so that she combos literally right up to you and stops.

EDIT: 7 bosses deep, died to one of them once. They really, really over-nerfed the ever-loving shit out of everything.

So, the Twilight Missions just change every day? That's lame. The first two official days are level 75 and 99? Can't wait for a level 20 Twilight mission in a week.

The attack multiplier determines how much damage you do by multiplying it with the primary and secondary stat totals for the weapon. If you have a low value for those stats it's possible that a lower modifier on a different weapon associated with higher stats will end up providing more damage.

Cheers :)

Any idea about sorting by ability? Can't seem to figure out what it sorts by.

A few pages back i recall a poster mentioning something similar, but the best strategy i've found to beating the bosses is to kite them. Mind you i've only beaten the first two, but running/dashing back and or away, as opposed to blocking or dodging works pretty great. God damn i forget the main characters name, but your character has a much larger window of opportunity to escape and dish out attacks when running/dashing. It's much better on your stamina and does not require perfect timing (i know, git gud). When you see the boss begin their attack animation run back, and after they are done, run back in hit 2-3 times. Rinse and repeat.
