Man this game is so good. Did they decrease the difficulty compared to the betas though? I hardly died so far, and beat the first 2 bosses on my first try (not counting the tutorial boss). I had a lot more trouble with the first boss in the beta, while this time he was a cakewalk and only hit me one with a weak attack lol. Bat lady I also found easy but I never had trouble with her in the beta either. Anyway, it's great fun and I'll finally get to play some new areas now.

Couple of things:

Almost died cause William just wouldn't fucking use an elixir. I'm not sure if it's my controller's d-pad or what, but 99% sure he simply doesn't heal sometimes and just stands there.

Stuck with the Agility Dmg Bonus A Kusarigama and it cost me 90000 to upgrade it. Sold like half of my rare mats so I could afford it.

And if someone's having trouble nailing the ki pulse timing down, you could also look at your ki bar. When you use up some ki, the bar goes down and when you stop, the last used portion starts to fill again with white. You want to ki pulse right when the last used portion is filled with white.

This has happened to me several times. I'll warrants a "FUCK!" and a control throttling.

This game is so much better than I was expecting. There are so many systems to learn, fighting styles to master and skills to unlock. If it keeps the variety of scenery and enemies up this might be one of my GOATS to be honest. I expected a Dark Souls lite, with a bit faster combat and not as much focus on level design, but this... this is something else. Super challenging, still tense as Dark Souls is, requires concentration and deliberate actions.

I haven't thought this much about a game when I'm not playing it myself since The Witness.

the feeling you get from finally killing a boss after struggling a bit is so fucking awesome in this game, because you look like a fucking samurai badass while doing so

god i fucking love this game

I agree with Nioh's combat being better but Souls' combat is pretty overrated imo. It's slow, lacks any real depth and has barely evolved since Demon's Souls.

Nioh oblierates it on its first attempt.

Nah I wouldn't go that far. Souls evolution was indeed incremental, but it still works well for the kind of game. It's not meant to be the same thing as Nioh.

That said, I just might prefer Nioh's combat overall (!!!!!).... well, it's too soon to say. Nioh has more depth, but I love, love the build and playstyle varieties from Souls games.

Also, it's too soon to say, but combat mechanics aren't everything, and I don't know how Nioh measures up in term of level, encounter, and boss design.

Still, GOTY for me, I'm 99% sure. Unless Horizon exceeds all my expectations somehow.

To be fair, they also will cover the DLC and PVP. And this is future press, they go above and beyond.

Is all the DLC from the season pass gonna be out by April 12th?

If not then Is the guide gonna cover the DLC that may not have been released yet?

Pfft, beat Hino-Umi first time.

Albeit....

My health (no Elixirs left): |-|

Been a long time since I felt so sweaty. God bless the Spear.

Just died to a boss because of it lol.

I'll help someone one more time with this stage and then I'm off to bed. Starting to get a bit cranky lol, and I've gotta wake up in less than 7 hours.

Couple things, what is extend purification opening on a weapon? And how long did some of you ride with Nioh titled gear like Niohs Axe, or Niohs Tachi?

I have stuff but not sure what the purification thing is.

Also for axes, what is the primary stat to look for with one, crit? What else?

A few hours in, I can rest easy that this game doesnt touch bloodborne.

My appreciation for souls is even greater now.And no the combat is far from overrated.

I feel that there is much more variety in the way souls enemies behave than in Nioh. The level design is more sophisticated too.

I'd consider myself a "veteran" to the souls series and I'm finding the beginning area with the
burning village
frustratingly difficult to get through.

Nioh's combat makes a mockery out of Souls and Bloodborne. Not even a contest in that department, to be honest. You see everything with Souls/Bloodborne's combat in the first hour whereas in Nioh, I'm always getting better and learning how to take advantage of its mechanics and 42 hours later I still can't say I'm good at the game. The skill ceiling is much higher in Nioh as a result of a deeper combat system.

I agree that the level design in Soulsborne is better but at the end of the day, I'm having more fun playing Nioh.

Biggest thing I'm finding is you have to understand you are less powerful than Souls games and use an attrition style of combat where you whittle enemies down and don't get greedy. Once I scaled back my combos I did much better. And use stones to fight 1v1!

Welp caved and went digital.

Amazon, Target, Best Buy, Walmart, and Gamestop are all sold out. I don't remember the last time I saw this happen lol.

I think he meant that the enemies themselves have more varied abilities and movesets.

Which is probably true, but Nioh gives the player a far larger moveset and ways to approach the combats.

So it's like two radically different approaches.

What should I spend gold on? I have not bought anything yet, and I still carry around everything I've picked up so far.. haven't delved into the crafting systems and weapon upgrades yet.

Just completed the Ocean roars again. Can we all agree this is the Nioh's Blighttown? I mean, the whole level is just a trap within a water and you can day from any hit just by accidentally falling. Boss is tough as hell too, maybe it's just me, but it took me a while to finally kill this big Gish-like mess. What's your point about that level? And without spoilers, are there worse bosses waiting for me ahead?

Seriously

A Aglity and Low Stance with 2 or 3 Heavy Attacks then that jump Kick.

I swear by it man

~~

I matched with a scrub who died at the centipede boss like 4 or something times ffs, I didn't die once and the boss was almost done

edit: Can I solo it?

I hope this doesn't turn into a Souls vs Nioh war

Souls games are about much more than the melee combat. You can go pure mage and wreck in Dark Souls 2 not an option here

Nioh is incredibly focused and that leads to infinite intracies. But Souls games have an expansive component in builds and weapons that Nioh can't touch

They are both wonderful and I would be so sad to lose either

And neither is "better" ;)

Every single Souls veteran probably feels that way in the beginning. Once it clicks you'll look back and ask yourself how you ever struggled there.

Every weapon in Bloodborne feels unique and different.

Nioh feels like it basically has five weapons in the whole game. All the different versions of the same weapon are actually almost the same.

Also so far I like the bosses in Bloodborne better. And the open world.

But otherwise I'm not sure yet. Too early.

Totally agree. What a shithole. lol

I've played for like 42 hours and 10 of them were spent on that one fucking boss.

Only souls game that grabbed me was Demon's Souls, which is one of my fav games. I dropped DkS hard and DkS3 was fun but didn't grab me.

NiOh is another story. It ain't more of the same, that's for sure.

Just because its studded with options in the menu and bigger move sets ,it doesnt mean its better for me.

There is a certain purity and simplicity to the Souls games combat that is a big reason for its wider appeal.

There is also a sense of discovery thats lost in Nioh.I very much feel like I am playing "combat arena levels".

But Nioh is very different,anyway.
