Nioh |OT| Stamina is Ki

Just got to the first boss and man, this is already pretty damn great. I really like the sort of rthym you get with the Ki Pulse, I really liked the similar mechanic in DMC4. The depth is ridiculous, still wrapping my head around switching weapons and stances. It's crazy how big a difference a stance change can make too, those larger demons that come out of the misty areas when you get close were handing me my ass, but I switched from mid stance sword to high stance axe and they were way easier, I could actually block and staying right at the edge of their range let me safely do a ton of damage when they whiffed an attack.

I already made a really stupid mistake, I dumped a ton of samurai points into swords without realizing that screen has a tab for each weapon type. I'm mostly using an axe and the scythe thing with the ball and chain, so all those points are basically wasted.

Kind of worried about my stats too, I've been spreading them pretty evenly except for the magic stat, everything seems useful and I'm not really sure which weapons types will be my favorite yet. I'm still early on though so I doubt I can have messed anything up too badly.

The first boss handed me my ass, can't wait to try some more tomorrow though. I'll have to read through the thread but one thing I'm curious about is what I should keep my weight at. Is it like Dark Souls where there's cutoffs you want to stay under, or does your speed scale with your weight without brackets? I messed around with it and couldn't tell much difference between 40% and 70% as far as movement speed and dodging so I'm wearing medium and heavy armor for now.

Just did that side mission in region 3 where u fight this big dude with an axe on the brigde. So many dead warriors, the bridge was pretty much covered in red. The fight wasnt even hard and yet so many brave souls dead.

What armor type do u guys using? L/M/H? I've been using Light armors so far and it's been great, under 27% equip load at the moment.

I'm using the complete Warrior of the West set(Tachibana, I don't have the sword though), and with my Stamina at 12 I was able to just get under 70% equip load so I get B grade for agility. It has nice bonuses and can take a fair bit of damage. It's a shame there doesn't seem to be many light armor sets(so far), at least good looking ones. Gotta look sharp while slaying some demons.

No worrys you can respec with a book.

Unintentionally cheesed N
ue fight on my 5th or 6th try. I'm sure it has been mentioned in this thread multiple times, but the gondola thingy on the NE from the entrance makes the fight a cakewalk. When you're in it, because there is a roof, his 4 string lightning attack can't hit you. Once I realized that, I spam attacked him during it, depleting his stamina over and over. The building also makes it hard for him to hit his melee attacks, and of course his roll he uses as follow up also doesn't work properly. All I had to dodge really was his lightning beam, which I would do by going out the gondola, hitting him a couple times, then going back in the gondola. I kind of feel guilty for using this strategy, but it was accidental, and whatever, he's dead!

Not really cheese, just a cool alternative. His lighting doesn't break it, but Nue can waltz over and melee it down. Wish they'd done more of that / hadn't made the lightning laughably easy to dodge, which removes the need to even do it.

EDIT: Wait, the way I'm reading it, his melee didn't break it down o.O?

Watch this video:

I watched it before bed last night and its helped me understand a lot of stuff I was a bit confused about before and how I should be going about building my character.

Ogress from the last demo defeated on the first try. Feels good not being stuck on anything so far.

By the way, a "tip" for those who haven't been doing it - reforge, reforge, reforge. You get a ton of mats for it anyway and equipment you pick up usually has at least one junk skill.

Finally learned how to beat the 3rd boss near flawlessly. Took me somewhere around 25 tries but that's because I refuse to use elixers while I'm learning a boss.

I ended up getting clipped by her 3rd kick in her combo once. Other than that I had a perfect run with high stance spear the entire battle.

This was a hard freakin boss but I could probably beat it in my sleep tonight with how much I worked at it lol.

If you're a spear user having trouble some tips:

1) keep your distance
2) back off
3) block plenty while backing off
4) long range strikes to chip away her health

Getting bugged quest is a pain... second time I need to reset and start the quest level 34 the magatama of fire. For some reason the last Yokai does not give me the item I need.

Soooo I just completed the third story mission, which is mission level 19, and I'm level 33.

I only did the side missions as they showed up and leveled up naturally. Is this normal? I don't want to overlevel too much.

Same, just reached the second level and I'm lvl +40 lol

I want to do coop for fun but I don't want to overlevel :/ Might have to throw amrita away when in coop.

Over leveling really isn't a issue in this game, gear is way more important to your survival. At level 50 if you are reckless you can be killed by anything in the game.

Managed to find a copy at a Walmart on the other side of town; last copy within 250 miles. RIP Gamers Club / Prime discount. This game better be worth it.

Kind oh hard to explain, but his melee breaking the pagoda walls (if you can call them that) is what allows you to enter it. However, there are still 4 wooden posts holding the structure up, as well as the roof that prevents the 4 string lightning attack from hitting you. What I essentially did was get Nue to stick his head between 2 of the 4 posts of the structure (of course, he can't fully enter the pagoda). This makes it so it is very difficult for his melee swipes to hit you (thanks to the posts), as well as his melee roll doing nothing, and the aforementioned 4 string lightning attack being a chance to spam attack him. Only thing you have to worry about is his lightning beam, which you use as an opportunity to leave the pagoda and hit him a couple times, then enter again. Using the strategy for the whole fight he barely moves--he stays just outside (with his head kinda between) 2 of the supporting beams of pagoda.

It definitely is! I'm pretty much digital with all my games now, way more convenient and you never have to worry about shipments.

Lemme put it this way, by the time you get to the end of the game, even if you have done 100% of the side content, you will be underleveled compared to the recommended level for the last stuff.

That was a helpful video. I keep playing this game like Soulsborne :lol

Yeh I've been doing that as well but playing like that means I'm taking far too long to beat some of the larger enemies. I need to start trying out discord in particular and get into the habit of changing up my stances depending on the situation.

I'm pretty comfortable with Ki pulse already though.

Can't wait for the PvP to arrive in this game, have a feeling it will be a ton of fun.

What mission? Maybe I can help.

Invitational From The Warrior Of The West

I want to beat it alone. But there are some attacks, i can't dodge and are instakill for me with light armor. I'm doing dual katanas, but this guy is even faster. Tried with spear, but didn't do any better. Tried like 50 times.

I don't think you can get help on that mission anyways lol

Nobody told me that the actual Tachibana was a master ot the Hiten Mitsurugi style. Curiously, despite getting beaten, I'm not frustrated, I'm actually having fun. I will beat him.

I'm surprised that Kelly's duplicate is not a skilled as the real one seeing his magic is OP at the moment.

Lol 20 tries at Hino-Enma. How bad can a person be at this game.
Same, I'm stuck here. Worst part is I have some weird problem with my wrist so I'm limiting myself to one hour per day. Haven't made progress since I got tk her yesterday morning...

She's so difficult, but I know it's just me getting greedy lol.

The Hino-Enma fight is pretty easy. Are the people having trouble with it mostly not Souls veterans/new to the genre? Coming from the Souls games, pretty much all of the bosses so far have been trivial.

Yeah I am still figuring out the how far I can push combos before dodging which gets me killed. The fight is pretty straight foward and simple but I am still just getting used to how the game plays.

Wait till you get further into the game, you'll think her very easy lol.

Oh boy. Hopefully I learn how to play before that lol.

Platinumed all Souls games so I guess I could be called a veteran. Thing is the combat isn't the same. It is very different.

Unhappy with my fight against
White Tiger

Focusing on Spear and thus body (ingame description told it affects spear damage, so I leveled it a bunch) gave me so much health, I could ltierally just tank through anything he did. Only grab was dangerous enough to kill me.

Umi-bozu... Can't understand why I have so much trouble with it. I manage to get to the second phase but then I just melt almost without getting any hits in. Any tips for it?

If you ever want to coop that one let me know. I would gladly help since I love that fight

Wow once you have the proper gear and stat this game just becomes too easy lol. I love the fact this game rewards grinding and proper loot farming. Glad to see team ninja didn't put in loot for the sake of having loots. I have now come to a conclusion this is a diablo type character building game. With dark soul elements. This game is nothing like Dark souls.

I am mowing down these bosses lol. Glad to see this is a gear based game. My type of game.

Just beat her the attempt after I wrote my last post lol.

I was just too greedy. And I dodged to early before I actually looked to see if she was starting a spin attack or the combo kicks.

And using Kunai/Shurikens when she is in the air worked well! Got her down in three hits and you could get a few free hits.

Game finally clicked on me at the first sub mission, decided to start again because I was playing the game so wrong it hurts, cleared the second chapter now and no death so far, feels good

What were you doing wrong?

Also i feel kinda lost.. Just wandering around.. Still on the first mission.. How/where do i complete the first mission?

Strangely enough, I keep playing this game like the Souls series and Bloodborme. I always forget about Ki pulse and other aspects of the combat. But I haven't really run into any issues with the bosses so far.

LOL, just because I come here and complain I take it down on the next try with ninja bombs.

For his final phase you ought to have your spirit animal. Save it for then and go ham.

Watch put for his AOE and you should be fine.

Edit: Oh you did it lol grats!!
