Nioh |OT| Stamina is Ki

I've been trying to kill Nue for like an hour now. Really don't know why I haven't gotten it. It's attack sequence looks pretty simple. Sometimes I'll be hitting it as it crumples with no stamina then instantly it transitions into some attack and stun-locks me and I die.

Overall I'm dying a lot more to these bosses than I care to admit. I more or less sleep walked through all of DS3 and Bloodborne (not the DLC did it on NG++) and these early bosses are fucking me up. Somethings different between the two but I can't put my finger on it.

Same situation for me, and i think that's because of my stamina management.

I found him the easiest honestly. Whack him when he's about to do his laser (approach from your left) and he's stunned. Hammer him with attacks and get out when you notice he returns to normal. When he wants to do his lightning you can hit his face too but I usually didn't take the risk and ran around and slashed him after the last strike. When he's on his side, hit his belly. Try to get a feel for Ki Pulse Flux during his stun states.

Use Living weapon, power it up before you fight him.

The bosses generally leave less wiggle room because they can body you in just a few hits and their health pool is rather big.

I feel like Spear has the lowest burst damage potential in the game compared to the other weapons. Kusarigama for instance does way more burst damage with way less Ki consumption. Probably the worst weapon to use against Yokai enemies and the best against humans.

I'm gonna respec I think.

Does anyone know if I had a preorder at GameStop and I buy the game to get the dlc code for a friend... I bought the deluxe pan preorder... can I return the game to GameStop still? From my understanding the code will print on the receipt

Just spent the last 2.5hours farming
Ii Naomasa
for his armour, Most of the purple versions dropped quick, but those damn pants took so long..Used up all of my gold Soul matching them up to 73..which is weird since I'm only lvl 63.

They can also drop the smithing text if you ever want to craft it again at a higher level in the future.

Soul Match is a waste of gold for armour sets. It's better to get the smithing text and forge from there.

Must be a tiny chance, 25-30 kills with no text. Might give it a go later on, he's a very easy kill.

I didn't have much else to spend it on..It's pretty much just stocking up on ammo every 3-4 missions, but that's just like 5k for all 3 ammo types.

Well I finally decided to use my Living Weapon(Paired Raiken) for the first time, on the Twilight mission boss Onryoki. Absolutely wrecked him at the end with hits doing over 1000 damage. I should use this more often...

So... Any tips for Invitational From The Warrior Of The West?

Circle around the rock on the left side of the map and cheese him with a spear. No shame, he wants to kill you so fuck playing fair.

Your actual opponent in this boss is the stage. Half the time, you will bump into some wooden crap or those two tree garden square things that are in the stage for no good reason.

That said, I think his most annoying attack is his claw lunge, which comes in about 3 variations:

1 punch, 2 punch, 1-2 punch into spin dash.

It's kinda tedious, but you should probably only go in during spin dash recovery, though he recovers from that quickly, so don't get to greedy (1-2 hits at most?).

Lighting from above is always prefaced by a roar and then 4 bolts that track, so just run around towards the enemy and get 2 hits in during the 4th bolt and back off.

His crumple mode has an AOE (I think?) where he gets stamina back, so I recommend only doing like one combo to the end and then backing off.

He has that thing where he jumps in the air or something and ends up on the floor like an idiot, so attack his belly during that until he recovers.

He also has that lightning attack that sweeps in a cone in front of him. Attack from the side where he starts the attack so you can get a few hits in as he sweeps to the other direction...

Of course, this assumes there isn't random crap in the way and you can get at this side :v

I think what happens a lot in this game is that we get lulled into a false sense of security because of how good the movement and animation cancelling is... at the end of the day, you're pretty much safer by just being conservative with your combo strings (it's only really during a crumple where you can get to the end of the chain guaranteed without some random bullshit happening).

That said, I feel like this is a good problem to have: the controls are actually so good that you possibly get complacent lol

I'd rather have that than shitty controls fucking things up.

What worked for me was baiting out his lightning breath from just outside melee range, big windup. Dash in and to your left(his right) and smack him in the head, he'll crumple and you can get 2-4 hits in depending on weapon. Dash back 2-3 times, he'll always follow up crumple with his melee string.

After this, make some space and just run in straight lines to avoid his lightning. Repeat til dead. He does this stupid diving thing where he lands on his side, can get a full combo in there too.

From the past, the code is on the receipt. Eh I don't normally buy games at GameStop. if it's like any other place, as long as you have the receipt and unopen copy, you can return the game without any issues. You can also use the code and they won't care as well.

iirc it's 7 days for a a full refund for preowned games. I want to say 30 days period for unopened game with receipt. But I could be wrong.

Yeah I could probably stand to be a bit more conservative. It does have a fuck ton of health like Also like SkylineRKR said. Hit and run it is. Going from a medium combo to heavy stance and doing the full kusarigama twirl of death feels so good though

I know it would make the game easier, but I kinda wish that most encounters would let me get to the end of my combo strings whenever I catch them in an opening as opposed to waiting for the damn stamina bar to drain to do stuff.

Because you're god damn right: pushing buttons feels great in this game and I would want to push more of them.

I think as a substitute for letting you do this, they can simply design more animations and movesets... but this probably involves a lot more money and production time lol

What weapon type are you folks using? I messed around with spears for a bit, and they seemed okay but I got a bit annoyed at using them in tight areas. I kept hitting walls and bouncing off. :X

Mid stance strong attack is thrust, very easy to keep the enemy at range if you have space behind you and no bouncing.

I'm sure it's already been stated at least once somewhere in this massive thread, but it bears repeating. Any passive you pick from any particular weapon tree that does not have a requirement of using that weapon in the description, can be used with all weapons. E.g +100 health, if your health is at 30% or lower, damage dealt to you is reduced by 20%, or +6% close damage while at full health, +6% damage to enemies at full health, +5% damage to enemies from behind etc. You can make some pretty crazy builds this way.

4th region done. No real roadblocks there, both in main and side missions, but my level is getting worryingly lower than recommended, despite doing everything and not losing exp through double deaths.

How are you guys farming the the thousands of glory needed for skins? Fighting revenants just gives me 30 and, maybe, 60 for those in a different colour clan. Also anyone have a picture of the
revenant
skin?

Just help someone in coop. I did one mission and got 800 glory.

Yo I was wondering about this...

Time to spend all the points :v

Same situation for me, and i think that's because of my stamina management.

Easy way to beat the boss (that I posted before):

Kind of hard to explain, but his melee breaking the pagoda walls (if you can call them that) is what allows you to enter it. However, there are still 4 wooden posts holding the structure up, as well as the roof that prevents the 4 string lightning attack from hitting you. What I essentially did was get Nue to stick his head between 2 of the 4 posts of the structure (of course, he can't fully enter the pagoda). This makes it so it is very difficult for his melee swipes to hit you (thanks to the posts), as well as his melee roll doing nothing, and the aforementioned 4 string lightning attack being a chance to spam attack him. Only thing you have to worry about is his lightning beam, which you use as an opportunity to leave the pagoda and hit him a couple times, then enter again. Using the strategy for the whole fight he barely moves--he stays just outside (with his head kinda between) 2 of the supporting beams of pagoda.

I'm talking about the pagoda that is in the northeast corner when you enter the boss area. As you can see in my above quote, you can use the pagoda to make the fight very easy to manage. First you need him to melee swipe the wooden walls of the pagoda so you can enter it. The pagoda is a rectangle shape--you want to get him stuck on either end (with the shorter distance between the wooden posts).

Sword and Axe. Only just started though.

Beat 2nd boss within an hour. Not that bad imo. Really
light armor is totally the best in this fight. Get her patterns and you dodging correct and the she's cake
Really enjoyed this fight. Nice difficulty spike.

I think I am doing something very wrong. I am at third boss and it has so much health. I stun it 10+ times and keep hitting it during it but still doesn't go down. Living weapon does barely any damage either. Should I be using skillpoints? I think I haven't used one in a while.

edit.
Yeah I have 22 skillpoints. I think I should have been using them lol.

Beat 2 more bosses tonight. T
achibana Muneshige
and G
reat Centipede
. Both were pretty simple. The former was easy to make him use all his ki, then I would punish him. The latter I just stuck very close to it, and blocked all its physical attacks/dodged the poison. Whenever it would do the big dive attack (where it ends up exposed) I would do a lot of damage, then just wait for it to repeat the sequence.

Looking forward to fighting some harder bosses!

At around level 30 I think maybe spear/ sword could do with a bit of adjustment. If I chose to start using an axe for example, do I need to respec?

How the hell do I parry with the Dual Swords?!

I have the L1+ Triangle (Press Triangle while gurading) move, but either the timing is super-off or I do not understand it. :/
