Glitch during Twilight Ogress Co-op with Random:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWed8tkcv3A

Haha, I had a similar thing happen when helping someone co-op umi-bozu. When the second phase was supposed to start he just stayed underwater. We had to shoot and chuck bombs to kill it.

Also, nice to see someone else using guardian spirit talismans and then quick strikes to proc confusion. Doing the same but with susaku. Its all but over for twilight bosses once confusion has been setup, even better on the ones that will cooperate with the dual sword special move water sword.

Anyone else finding that this game sort of runs out of gas fairly quickly? Whenever a Souls game releases I usually bunker up, being late to apppointments and neglecting simple chores because I just want to keep playing the game until I finish. With Nioh I can only play a level or two before doing something else.

I would suggest even at level 1, you should unlock skills and techniques. It's where the game shines in that you don't actually need levels or exp to unlock and use skills as there are lots of consumables that give skill points in the form of locks of hair. There's lots of good tech like sheath cancelling into ki damaging skills like kick and heaven flash that will make hard fights at lvl 1 just a little bit more manageable. He is consistently parryable and you can use a fully charged Iai-strike usually facing him from behind to do insane damage when he is grounded and then follow up with a finisher.

Nonetheless, kudos for the level 1 especially on first playthrough. Joe Fenix on twitch also did level 1 his first playthrough, albeit he did get skills, if you want some tips from someone who has completed the game level 1. I imagine doing fights without skills will force you to come up with innovative ways of dealing with enemies like using the bow when he is charging. Did not know that.

xD thank you for the advice...but i don't know...i usually would not try to do any sort of level 1 in games like these, dark souls and BB just frustrate because i'm so shit at those games.

But this game resembles a pure action game in a lot of ways (which i would say i'm pretty good at), it makes you really feel that if your responsive enough, skilled enough and just plain good enough you can do it.

If i come to a point where i get frustrated though, i'll definitely end up taking your advice on atleast looking into some of those skills, of course i don't know when that might be as i've probably died about 400 times by now and have not gotten put off yet xP That song plays in my dreams at this point

I dunno if it counts as a level 1 run through if your utilizing armor or weapons higher than level 1 either, so it does take a while to get through bosses(since i'm basically selling everything outside of the mariner stuff you start with, but i can take out most of the enemies one at a time since their patters are easily telegraphed, which does lead to some hilarious situations where i'm trying to play the game like a stealth game in the twilight missions only taking care to agro enemies individually. The rock is your greatest weapon in these times, since wasting arrows is suicide(i thought it would be unfair to use guns and hand canons, so i am just sticking to the base bizen uchigatana and long bow combo)

Can anybody give a brief rundown of some of the better reforging bonuses that we should try to roll? Particularly for a spear use in my case.

These systems are a bit overwhelming atm...

Also, how do you pass on bonuses from one weapon to another? I haven't seen that option when reforging.

Tbh its gained steam over the week since release for me. As much as the souls games are revered in my collection, this could end up being more appealing for me longevity wise.

items with mods that have []>[] to the left of them can be transferred via soul match.

the item with the mod you wish to transfer over must be at max familiarity. level does not matter, nor does rarity or weapon type. but you cant transfer a gun mod to a sword. but you can transfer a mod on a spear over to sword.

i like to go for ki damage for my spear. strong attack ki damage is a nice one. I like to get in close in low stance with my spear so I have a close combat damage buff. I have a mod that gives me life when i attack in a certain stance. elemental damage is another great one.

Oh boy, here we go... So, uh, I know I'm really in the minority here, but I'm kinda disappointed with this game so far, honestly. It's got fantastic combat, and from a purely mechanical perspective, I'd say it's the best action game on PS4, but it's just so damn repetitive. I'm over 30 hours in now, in region 4, and I'm still fighting the same enemy types I fought back in the first (well, technically second) level. The lack of enemy variety is really grating at this point, and honestly, the game is starting to feel like a real drag. There are new enemy types introduced every once in awhile, but then they quickly take a backseat to the same random spear dudes and axe Yokai I've been fighting since the beginning.

It's not the game's only problem either. The encounter design is also lacking to me. Rarely does the game try to surprise you with an interesting or challenging combination of enemies. It seem fascinated to a fault with one on one encounters, which are great at first, but ultimately get boring once you've fought every enemy fifty times and learned their moveset by heart. Also, most of the side missions feel like filler, placing you in the same areas you were just in to fight the same enemies all over again. There are some real highlights in the side content (like a few tense Samurai duels, or tense encounters on a bridge with holes everywhere), but most of it feels kinda tacked on.

It ain't all bad. Mechanically, Nioh is brilliant, the boss fights are consistently excellent and challenging, and I do generally enjoy the level design in the main story missions. But, the lack of enemy variety, the (mostly) uninspired encounter design, and the (mostly) dull side missions are all major sore points for me that are seriously impacting my enjoyment of the game.

Does the game pick up at all in it's second half? Does it become less repetitive? Are there tons of new enemy types and cool encounters coming up? It just feels like I've seen everything the game has to offer at this point a hundred times over, at what is apparently only the halfway point. I don't outright hate the game, but at this point, I definitely don't feel as enthusiastic about as I did, initially.

Almost done with area 3 and the repetition + excessive amout of loot is really getting to me

The side missions - dont even try them anymore, total filler content.

The fact that i am only 50% through the main missions feels .. well...beginning to question if i will have the will to finish this game

Btw Souls/Borne are my favorite games and have completed each several times snd never felt this fatigue.. the combat is great though

Anyone have any tips for fast tracking the blacksmith request trophy? I've just been farming and selling greens from revenants but it's sooo slow.

Yeah, that's mostly down to enemy variety and constant combat. DS's slower rythmn and greater base enemy variety really helps those games.

Plus heavy enemies are usually unique to an area. You aint killing the same god damned amrita fiend/tengu/firewheel/oneeye/licktung with the exact same strat from area 1 to area 20.

Game actually became much more enjoyable during NG+, wot with playing trying to determine just how fast one can get from the beginning to the boss, skipping nearly everything.

Why the hell are smithing text so rare, battle li over 100x today and nothing with high luck and human drop rate.

Because that's totally good value for money since it adds longevity to the game /s

it's fucking dumb. It's sapping my will to play the game. I just want to be able to craft the Iga Jonin set. I wouldn't be pissed about it if Soulmatching wasn't RIDICULOUSLY expensive. The game's economy/drops rate are horribly tuned.

Have you spammed the speak to Tome option. When she changes clothes, you can say she looks pretty to get 10 free patronage points. Do the same for
Muramasa
for 4 extra points. Other than that, yes, revenant farming and selling (not dismantling) the greens is the best way to make money. If you keep your level lower than 20 below the revenants you are farming you will get a lot more items from them, usually 5. You can respec if you want if you are too high. As for killing revenants just parry and punish with iai.

Thanks man. I'll follow this advice!

farm the dojo a few times, youll get lots of purple items for the iga set. keep soul matching it every few levels. ive found that i get a ton of iga stuff.

the texts are certainly not a 100 to 1 drop rate. I got the dragon text after 15 or so kills.

Beat every boss solo, most first or second try, think that's my only complaint, bosses have been easy so far, region 5 now. Game is amazing though, it's a minor nitpick.

Enemy Variety is definitely Nioh's weak point, and samey levels. How much that bothers you varies from person to person.

Also the sub-mission bridge of bone is a very good place to farm revenants. Close to a shrine and lots of graves filled with greens. Clear up until the final wave and farm until your inventory is full. But if you're respeccing to lower your level just don't die twice in a row, otherwise you'll lose that unused Amrita. Just carry a few summoner candles if you die in a place that don't feel confident getting back to.

Thanks for the tips! Here's my current mods:
1. Close combat ki damage (Is that a different pool from close combat damage?)
2. close combat ki reduction
3. Final blow damage
4. Earth element (Raging Bull spear bonus)

I suppose I should definitely reroll 2 & 3?

I'm in the same region and feel similarly. Idk if I actually want to finish this. I only look forward to bosses at this point.

Yep. Starting to co-op more just to finish the game quicker.

Game is amazing but way too long IMO.

Wait, the third region is only 50% through? 😰

For those feeling fatigue. Master a new weapon class, focus on a different stance. Utilize magic and ninjitsu. Respec your character.

If you've been rocking only one weapon type and even worse one stance in that weapon type you're not playing to the games strengths. Nobody would play a dmc/ninja gaiden game by sticking to one thing, and you shouldn't in Nioh. It lends itself a lot as a character action game. Try excelling at parrying against foot soldiers if you feel that confident against them. You can easily be stylish and overpowering in this game. Its not just a concept of progression via 3 hit attacks ala Souls games. Its about skill mastery.

I'm doing all that

Yea ditched Axe for Spear and found it refreshing. Also trying high stance more.

I do that but only because this game is mission based instead of being one contiguous world. It's picking up more steam for me though. Souls to me is mostly about exploration then combat and nioh is mostly about combat then exploration.

The final boss for region 5 was so FUN, but damn those are some shitboxes. Makes me wish Nioh had more i-frames with dodging and rolling (even low stance), but whatever. FUN.

First time facing the boss took forever, trying to figure out how to hit the
head
, but the second time I noticed the path to get to it. Running around the area reminded me of the
Amy G. Dala
fight in Bloodborne. Both are just amazing spectacles.

I don't know how you guys stick to one stance. I always try to mix and match my combos going from low to high while taking advantage of that skill that regenerate stamina by switching stances.

It is smart to switch, certain enemies are easier to take down depending on the stance, plus it is good to get good at using all the stances/abilities.

Yeah, this game is waaay too long for it's own good. It should've either been half (or less, even) of it's current length, or offered more variety in it's enemies and encounters.

I appreciate the suggestions, but I've been doing all that and it isn't helping. I've played with all five weapon types extensively, as well as Ninjutsu and Omnyo magic. The problem isn't that I'm not stylishly overpowering dudes, it's that I've been stylishly overpowering the same dudes for 30+ hours. :/

The more I play the more new found appreciation I have for the souls games. This is still a really good game but it's still a level below the souls games (minus DS2) for me. It'll prob still be a goty contender.

Enemy Variety is definitely Nioh's weak point, and samey levels. How much that bothers you varies from person to person.

As someone who has put a few hundred hours into Diablo 3 and the Souls games over the years, I love it. For me it's pretty much the perfect balance, it's pure crack. 60 hours in and I'm just starting the fourth region. No fatigue here, the combat is so good I just want to keep playing

Agree, Nioh's combat is amazing, and the game systems are good. The world and enemies though need work. Still a great game, but def not Souls tier. Exploration is amazing in Souls games, as are the art design and enemy variety.

Same here.

Just beat the frog boss. Pretty cool fight but he's highly susceptible to just going behind him and hitting him in the butt. I expected for there to be attacks that hit behind his back

Hardly anything matches them in terms of world building and exploration.

This is their first kick at the can and they did a damn fine job. I stay away from comparing this game to souls. Its not souls and aside from a few borrowed things its not trying to be.

There are definitely more than a few bosses that need some sort of difficulty adjustment. A bunch of them are weaker than some of the stronger Yokai.

I'm on the same boat, just readying up for the 4th region. No fatigue here either. In fact, I play more these days. I rarely play games in the mornings, but now I'd jump in to Nioh even though only for one side mission or two.

Thanks for the tips! Here's my current mods:

2. close combat ki reduction
3. Final blow damage
4. Earth element (Raging Bull spear bonus)

Ye gods, no. Close Combat Ki reduction (the blue version, not the white critical state only version) is great. Reduces the Ki cost of all your attacks and skills. Final Blow damage is the one that should go, too specific to waste an ability slot for. And I don't think you'll be able to touch the elemental property, as it should be locked for that particular weapon.

And yes, Close Combat Ki damage is in its own pool with other Ki damage abilities., separate from the ones that improve the HP damage.

Have exhausted the "Talk to Tome" etc options? You can get a surprising amount of patronage points by doing that. Like so:
WTF.. I've talked to Tome and
Muramasa
a plenty and generally exhausted all the options from before, but just now I delivered a new smithing text and checked if I got some new ones. I got 3 which netted me 13 patronage points o_O. I guess Tome is weak to flattery.
Tachibana Muneshige
What the fuck is this horseshit?
A very cool optional duel boss that, at first, might seem like impossible but learning the do's and don'ts will turn it into something very manageable.

Yeah I'm starting to jump on the fatigue boat finally....the enemy repetitiveness didn't bother me for awhile but I have one mission left on the 5th region and I just kind of want the game to be over. Shit I wouldn't mind if they had more different looking yokai with the exact same move sets.......just give me something different to look at at the very least. I'll probably eventually do a NG+ after this but that is a hell no until they let you use Spotify.
