980 is just so goddamn expensive. Very highest I would go is $450 shipped. I'd need it to come down like a hundred bucks.
And even then I'd feel lile an ass for spending so much on a video card. :-/
We need more options.

To be fair, we really don't know what's going on behind closed doors at Nvidia.
Perhaps they don't want to come out and specifically say they'll include driver optimization until they are sure they can actually do it.
It all depends on what you have to have.
2 770 2 gigs will run games great with the texture res and shadows turned down a notch.
That would still be better than current consoles in all other areas and at least the same in textUres and shadows.
So it all really comes down to how badly you have pc spec syndrome.
I'm really torn...I ordered my 970 the day before all this shit broke out and it just arrived. On principle I feel like I should return it, but I did get it for half off, I'm not pushing above 1080p, even with the gimped .5 gigs it's still two to three times more powerful than my previous card and all the alternatives in my price range are not ideal. What do.
If the whole issue is about memory, how does two 770 2GB make any sense?
Soooo.... when is the AMD announcement so it can rub salt in nVidia's eyes for this shit?

I want to know if I have the right to ask for a 980 in return? Or a discount maybe I don't know. I was really conflicted when buying the 970 because I thought 4gb wouldn't be enough. So o definitely need the Vram.
That all really depends on texture resolution.
If devs start putting much higher textures in pc ports than the consoles then you may be right. But I don't see that being the norm anytime soon. Right now textures are already higher than consoles with the current releases and they are not hitting 4 gigs.
Looks like the company I bought my custom pc from are giving me the silent treatment.
Sent them a message regarding the 970, nothing.
AMD cards can use HBAO+The one they will annouce you can have Physix, TXAA, MFAA, HBAO+, Gameworks with good driver support ?
That post was responding to that guy.
Yeah the whole point is about memory but no game requires 4 gig to play. Also was pointing out that with 2 gigs you can still get better looking and playing games than on the new consoles.
It wouldn't surprise in the PC space to see game that require 6GB + of vram in the next couple of years.

Exactly. Which is why the future proof talk is silly. If you want to keep cranking up to ultra in the years to come, not even 4 GB will cut it.True, PC gaming has no limit.
Still, at that point, 3.5GB or 4GB, all cards of now will be short.

The consoles presently reserve 3GB and 3.5GB for their OS, a lot of that will be released to developers as the generation progresses. I don't know that they'll have the resources otherwise to actually use higher res textures, but regardless, if we're already seeing first-gen cross-gen PC ports using 3+GB at 1080p, you can be sure 4GB and more is coming in the next year or two. The upper range AMD 3XX's and GTX10XX's will most likely ship with 6GB standard this year, and there will be games that stuff something in that.

980 is too expensive for me. Max I can go is 400 pounds. Would Overclockers UK even make a deal like that?
Gameworks? Well, I don't really need or want it. I just want to receive a product that I paid for as it was advertised. Otherwise, no matter how good their gameworks library is, they are not getting my money. Besides, AMD driver support has been great recently.
Pc games at max setting is pushing 3+.
Console games are never near max settings.
Console != pc version at max settings.
To each its own opinion. I like physix, it makes games more alive. I like also the fact that nvidia pushes for new tech whereas AMD just give you a barebone fast console GPU in terms of feature.
Also, I know AMD drivers, I had a 7850 two weeks ago, between the outdated RadeonPro and the bugs-only-on-AMD, no, I feel Nvidia software is more polished. IMO.
Curious, what has AMD never come out with their own physics engine? Also, AMD can't emulate the Physx stuff?

Pretty much no one uses physx except nvidia sponsored games.
Physix is closed to Nvidia hardware.
If this hasn't been posted, it is fantastic. Nvidia responds
This really sucks. I don't know what to say because I don't want to return my 970 but I feel I should get a compensation for all this bullshit. At least a free game to shut some people up or a high discount to the 980. It's a fantastic GPU but I plan on keeping it for at least 3 years and adding another one next year. Not anymore.
Unless AMD released their new cards for purchase this week, nvidia can do nothing and get away with it.
Watch AMD release a card more powerful than the 980 and be $100 to $150 cheaper.
I believe they are announcing it soon, but not for sell.
So announcement, but then won't be sold for another couple months you mean?
It was all over the other thread, the discussion moved here after it was locked.
Should be added to OP if you ask me.

I don't want AMD. I have a Gsync monitor and I want the Nvidia features, drivers, etc. I'm gonna talk to Overclockers UK again tomorrow and see what I can arrange.
You are well within your right to get a full refund but asking for special treatment (a £150 upgrade to a 980) is just silly.
OMFG that's terrible.. (2nd half of video)so, computerbase did some testing.
They showed that games will stutter heavily or freeze if you force them to use the slow memory.
1080p gamers are most likely not affected (yet). SLI and/or multi-monitor users will suffer from problems much most often.
Case in point: http://www.computerbase.de/videos/2015-01/gtx-970-vs-gtx-980-2-monitore-far-cry-4/
FarCry 4 before and after (51s) connecting a second monitor. Second monitor is showing aero desktop.
