As somebody that posts on both sites as it’s important to see everybody’s viewpoint. I’m firmly not with or against anybody and agree with certain positions from both sides of politics.

What you say is true, but it’s also true that Era presents itself as an extreme version of the left and is governed by despotism. Whereas Gaf is much more welcoming to any viewpoint. I have not seen any hate or despicable behaviour on here and hopefully never will. This is not the case on Era. Hate towards whites, or anybody that transgresses even in the slightest is apparent every minute of the day, and encouraged.

Furthermore Era is increasingly becoming more extreme. And if not already, some on there would be on a fed watchlist by now. It’s a total shame.

There has definitely been despicable behaviour on NeoNeoGAF but the difference is the mods actually deal with it rather than encourage it.

And I knew that it was already growing, however I thought now was the time to see about the member count, so like I tried this, and I now see the member count decreasing.

Either, that's a coincidence and there was a ban-bait thread, or peoples are finally realizing about the toxicity. I would say the former, but the truth is that the member count doesn't include permanent banned users or non-vaildated (email) peoples.

About the numbers, the high number of bans along with new members njoining at a slower pace (and some who do are banned more easily bacause are junior accounts), so that must be one of the reasons i guess.

That's not a consistent taboo. It is a schrodinger offensive word that's okay when used by one person and incredibly offensive by the other, and a useful potential crime to silence people who seem dangerously close to making wrongthink.
It also makes it very hard to talk about "female characters" (differenciating them from "women", who tend to be real life creatures with rights and sentience as opposed to pixels, which is a dangerous distinction) and assumes heteronormative two-genders wrongthink.

That was my first thought. The subs are quicker and friendlier and have a broader and deeper people to pull specialist knowledge from.

I understand older GAF and era now are/were good for aggregators but the amount of hype thats wrong, the amount of garbage and reputation is just not worth it.

Era has a captive audience at the moment because they won't move on. It's funny people moved to not be associated with a flimsy accusation against the site owner but the majority are happy enough being associated with the forum (era) as a whole. Where everyday new accusations are levelled and documented. Maybe it's because era is 'faceless' it's easier to ensure hypocritical.

They seem to have lost 17 members, this is definitely it, I'm not hallucinating.

I'm not saying that it's finally time for the site to implode. It could also just be because of the mass banning today (check Kiwi), and it's possible that 'Duration Pending' bans will exclude the member count.
But we'll see if the number rises due to normal, non permanents bans, or if it will stay/decrease.

They are working on a 2.0 as well. It's still being worked on.

Sure their site redesign looks nice but it's not really intuitive and it really seems like a pain in the ass to work around. The reply field has a really disgusting bubble style thing around it like it is supposed to be like a messaging app. Which eh I dunno about that. The threadmarks and the bookmarks are nice that's something I can agree on it's like a RES styled save button.

But they still have work to go with.

In my opinion, what's more important is when developers and publishers finally stop looking towards ResetERA for opinions and feedback. That is what makes ERA so powerful even though it is supposedly losing members.

Thanks for the feedback. We've been working on a design overhaul since this past June. It's been iterated on several times, beta tested by some members of the community, and revised to ensure it's familiarly gaffy and a comprehensive upgrade vs the current look and feel of things. Palliasso and Avasarala are currently putting the finishing touches on the dark theme variant for it. Will be live shortly.

Yesterday, Not even a day passed, they were all in my thread shitposting, downplaying, and gas lighting about the topic at hand.

What is the common denominator between this thread and mine? It deals with concerns coming from a Black perspective. This is fucking ridiculous and its pretty much come to a head.

Clearly someone felt their comments were out of line to ban them but once again ERA can't commit to making a better site than what else is available on the web. These posters see the word 'Black' and come running to stir shit, and time and time again, moderation gives them a few days timeout. They come right back to board and continue the same shit.

I've noticed something.

I take it people are familiar with the concept of compaction cycles? It's basically when a group engages in constant purity testing while ratcheting up the intensity of their rhetoric in an effort to force a set of beliefs. Anyone who fails to keep tempo is excluded from the group; in ResetEra's case this is really easy because the mods can just ban offenders. This is normally discussed in the context of cults, but it can apply to any sufficiently exclusive group. Anyway, the "compaction" part doesn't just refer to casting out non-believers, it also refers to how the people who remain get more and more radicalized over time. Now, I haven't been observing ResetEra ever since it was created, but I do know that the bloodlust present in some of their more recent threads wasn't as intense a few months ago. It's also how you get this guy getting banned for a week for "trolling", the standards have shifted to a point where the very obviously racist person he's replying to is fine but he's evil for questioning the narrative.

This got me interested and I found the origin of the term and a much broader description of the concept here:

One cycle of compaction occurred when NeoGAF splintered and PurpleGAF was founded. They are now currently in the midst of another cycle, it remains to be seen what the results will be.

We are already seeing some people who were discarded by PurpleGAF try and return (in some cases to stir up shit) here. This fits the description of the compaction cycle, where Narrativists constantly drift like flakes of snow from one snowball to another as they are shed from the outer layers. (LMAO this metaphor. Amazing.)
