hmmm..... tough choice.... I think for me is a five way tie between Mattingly, Mariano, Bernie Williams, Paul O'neill and Jeter. but there are more that rank pretty damn close too.
 
if bernie williams would come back right now i wouldn't dog on him like i would jeter/po/any other "dynasty" yankee. i love him that much :/
 
Bernie Williams is cool. I've got an autograph and picture with him from some baseball camp I went to in the early 90s as a kid. Always liked him a lot more than Jeter.
 
If I were a Yankees fan, I would pick Mariano without even thinking. I even have a mancrush on him. I would have shat brinks if in some bizarro world he took the Sox offer.

I'll be lucky if I see another championship from one of my teams, '94 Rangers is all I have. Was alive for the '86 Mets but I was too young. All I've witnessed is one heartbreaking loss after another, such as tonight's Rangers game.

Just trade these guys away, give them a real chance at winning, because you're not doing dick in NY unless you play for the Yankees. Lundqvist is Ray Bourque 2.0, dude is just wasting away in NY, fucking criminal.

There was 2-3 year span where I stopped following all sports, I think I should just go back to that, much less stressful.

Marlins are building a new stadium. Seems like a safer bet than a condo to retire to.

Also, how the hell is Lundqvist comparable to Bourque!?

He'll never win shit with the Rangers, kind of like Bourque with the Bruins.

Oh, of course. Be careful what you wish for. I just mentioned Boggs winning with the Yankees, but he wasn't Raymond Bourque. He is the finest example of the perfect player. Nobody embraced the team, city, and fans more than he did. I went to go see him when he brought the trophy back. Still stands as one of the most painful moments in my sports history. It fucking devastated me.

For some reason I was just thinking Goalie = Defenseman for a moment.

Yeah, Bourque was class, same with Henrik. May be the nicest guy on any NY team, guys run through him on a nightly basis, never whacks guys behind the legs, just a good guy and great player.

Pretty badass, never saw that clip. I was always a huuuuuge Joe Sakic fan so the Avs were my favourite team from inception til I sort of drifted away from hockey (read: Joe retired), and Joe skating over and giving Bourque the cup was up there as far as moments go.
 
Cubs level of mediocrity has been amazing so far in the early season.

Yeah...you made me watch the clip. I still can't handle it properly. If I ever become and actor, that is pretty much all I need playing.
 
My favorite player from any of my teams all time? I vacillate wildly between Bernie Williams and Mariano Rivera. They are both just perfect team players who were/are humble and classy, and always performed when it mattered most.

Bernie Williams' card was my first baseball card, and his first game was in the majors happened to be the first game I ever went to. A dark-skinned, bespectacled boy like me seeing a baseball player with similar features cut his teeth in the Stadium was a big deal to me.

Mariano Rivera is like a living deity to me.


Also, that Esposito/Bourque thing may very well be the classiest thing ever in sports...for like half a second, it made me even stop hating the Bruins reflexively.

I feel for you man, I really do. But it'll happen again. 86 wasn't that long ago, it's actually one of my first sports memories, and they are bound to do it again. It'll be fuckin sweet when it happens. Rangers in 94 was goddamn amazing too, and the Jets next year will be unreal.
 
Forgot to give some props to Ethier who seems to be back in form from last year before his injury. I still hate that he made those comments before the season.
 
It's actually pretty tough for me to pick my favorite player. I have a lot of favorite Yankee players, but if there's one that stands out it's probably Tino. Always loved watching him play.

As for non-Yankees, Randy Johnson by a mile.

I remember they were hyping him to be the next "it" boy after his debut he pitched 7 innings against the tigers or red sox I forget, although I remember that day well because I had just bought a whole 500 card pack of baseball cards and was watching on my aunt's big TV, happy as I could be thinking "the Yankees are someday going to be a .500 team" lol, times sure have changed....
 
Giants and Rockies playing Home Run Derby in Denver this series. Good for a laugh I guess, no matter which team is currently winning 8-0 or whatever. I love Coors Field!

Gammons mentioned Saltalamacchia has a two week leash the other day. This results in a morning full of catcher talk. Fine.

I used to joke a bit about Varitek calling a good game, but now it is pretty clear the pitchers simply are playing better with him behind the plate. That being said, I want to ring the neck of every moron thinking not only can Varitek play 3/5 or 4/5 games but that he can get anywhere even close the later months of the season.

It was ownerships fault not wanting to open the pocketbooks any farther for Victor Martinez. You see the performance Yankees are getting with Martin (Although I don't think Martin will last the entire season with significant time behind the plate) . Then you look at our record...

Thing about Salty is he has every indication at some point he is just going to turn it on, so I'm not bashing the attempt. He has been here for a year and a half and plenty of time observing the team.

SOLUTION: Scutaro to catcher.

My favorite player of all-time is Tino Martinez. Loved watching him play when I was a kid and it always seemed like he would hit a grand slam. He hit one in like 17 straight seasons.

All I want is a great defensive catcher that the pitching staff is comfortable with. Letting Victor go was a huge mistake. One thing I hate about Epstein is that he falls in love with bad players, and tries to sign them. Red Sox have wanted Saltalamacchia for a while now, and now they now that he sucks.

It wasn't Theo's choice to ditch Victor, the organization didn't want to invest any further. Which is fine by me, this is all on Salty at this point. He should be ready and prepared.
