Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Another week that my balance will remain the same...

I REALLY wish my Wii Points gained interest. But then again, what would I ever spend them on...

The best part is the US version is missing half the levels!

Hey I remember that game. Well what I remember is that it's probably the easiest game I've ever played. (If you buy the suspension part you can basically just run through the course by holding the gas and that wins you enough money to buy it for the next race. I think I beat the game the second time I played it.)

Extra -stage-?

I'm fully behind an update like that, but i can't believe Hudson would actually ADD that... the game is pitifully short as it is.
That what it said, as best I can remember, as I booted it up and went through the download new content part. My story mode was saved at the first level so I didn't have time to go through the entire story to see if a new level had been added at the end.

The extra stage takes place after beating what was formerly the final boss. It's just another small "destroy the target aliens" table with a new music track. It also appears to have already been present in the game, since, even after downloading it, the save file is still just 1 block.

This is a VC thread, not a wiiware thread. It's a shitty VC week.

Uh...

"VirtualConsole/WiiWare Update: Not bothering to look; see post 26865."

Though I do agree it's a shitty VC week. The Master System Enduro Racer isn't good now, and it wasn't good then.

My little sister would beg to differ about that point, given that her game crashed multiple times.

hmm then i was a very lucky motherfucker since i did a complete 100% run last year and the game didn't crash even once when playing with the wii. also, i played with rumble on all the time and played for long sessions always.

or maybe your wii had dirty lenses.......

still, i want to see MM on VC already!

Can the VC get more ridiculous?
Not only it's only one game but it's been a while a great game has been updated. What is NOA waiting? To give us a week of 126 gems that are overdue all packed in the last 2 weeks of december? :lol

No arguments here, this is one of the worst weeks in recent memory.

You know, I was going to hope for a Jiggy-esque birthday miracle by hoping for Earthbound to hit the European VC on Friday (since that's when it is), but they're not even due to get VC games on Friday.

Which will make it even more miraculous when it happens. :D

So I was thinking about getting the Strongbad Ep. 5 as a present for a friend because Trogdor was one of his favorites when he watched the show, but will he be okay playing it? He probably has no desire to play 1-4 at the moment but may like this latest episode.

And also, I do agree with everyone else that it would be nice to have better games more often, especially N64 but it's like the complaints start one week after a good release. Give it time. And yeah, I know all the arguments, just putting in my thoughts.

The link between the Strong Bad episodes is pretty thin (unlike the Sam & Max episodes, though even they have good stand-alone narrative), they stand on their own so he'll probably be good. You should be a good friend and just buy them all for him though. :D

We've had four one game VC release weeks in a row - a new record. Seven of the last eight weeks have only had one VC release. In terms of quantity, this has been the worst span for the North American VC ever. Given that, I actually think the criticism has been relatively muted as of late. I guess the main VC critics are just giving up and learning to live with illogical and haphazard release schedules. :lol I suppose it beats ramming your head against a wall repeatedly.

Anyone know if they are planning to allow the option for buying a bundle of the whole season of Strong Bad episodes at a lower per unit price at somepoint? I know there is the option for DLC bundles like with the Crystal Chronicles game, hopefully Nintendo will allow the purchase of game bundles as well.

WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO WIIWARE GAMES AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

Dec. 15, 2008

Time may be getting tight for holiday shoppers, but the selection and excitement at the Wii™ Shop Channel just keeps on growing. There's no simpler way to access a brilliant variety of new and classic games, and they're all available for download directly to your Wii console-no ribbons or wrapping paper required. This week's additions bring a fresh mix of challenges for new and experienced players to enjoy: Slay a dragon in the season finale of Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, solve a multiplayer puzzle or race the clock on an arcade-style motorbike course.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare™

Strong Bad Episode 5: 8-Bit Is Enough (Telltale Games, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older-Mild Cartoon Violence, Comic Mischief, Mild Suggestive Themes, 1,000 Wii Points): Trogdor, the beefy-armed dragon of legend, has shaken free from his video game and is running through the countryside, "burninating" everything in sight. With a dragon on the loose and 8-bit classics leaking into the real world, it's all fun and games until the proud land of Strong Badia falls to Trogdor's fiery wrath. Now Strong Bad must take back the night by sending this scorching menace back into his arcade cabinet once and for all. Just one problem: Does anybody know how to kill a dragon?

Big Kahuna Party (Reflexive Entertainment Inc., 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 700 Wii Points): Embark on a tropical adventure with the explosively charged Big Kahuna Party. Looking to make the ultimate party game, we started with a concept that's accessible to the whole family-the popular match-three game. On top of that, we crafted a unique multiplayer experience in which you can choose to work together to complete the challenging levels before the timer runs out, or go head-to-head and compete in a frenzy of fun. To top it off, we added 99 uniquely free-flowing levels, the challenging Tiki Pole, 20 hidden tropical sea creatures to unlock, the strategic Fish Net and more. The result is a family party game like no other, easy to pick up but impossible to put down. Play alone or with friends, and unleash the Tiki spirit within.

Virtual Console™

Enduro Racer™ (SEGA Master System, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Based on the popular SEGA arcade game and redesigned for the SEGA Master System, Enduro Racer takes you on an intense set of adrenaline-designed courses containing diverse and rough terrain that will test your skills and reaction time. Ride as fast as you can to pass as many cars and bikes as possible while also avoiding obstacles and pitfalls such as debris on the road. Take jumps off ramps and try to keep your speed up, but make sure to keep an eye on your bike so it doesn't blow up in your face. Are you ready for the challenge?

What a horrible birthday present Nintendo :( It's like the VC/Wiiware equivalent of argyle socks and a sweater vest.

Given the fact that in the 33 weeks since April 28th there are only nine VC games I've downloaded without having been gifted them, I'm not sure why I briefly entertained the possibility that the M.U.S.H.A. rating might happen to signal a release today. I suppose I just never learn.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I stop seriously discussing a given situation once I lose hope that it can improve.

Shitty week is shitty. Maybe we'll get something good for Christmas next week.

What?? We got the last episode of Strong Bad! I've been waiting for this week all month.

Unfortunately I have to delete one of the first four episodes to make room in the fridge for this one. =( How can I decide which one I liked the least?

Well, I guess that's my bad then. I haven't been keeping up lately with VC releases and was still remembering the good run we had around the time Super Mario RPG came out. I guess time flies. :lol

Oh, and thanks on the Strong Bad recommendation. I'm not sure how much he likes adventure games so I figured I'd start small. Once my backlog gets a little smaller, I plan on picking the games up myself.

So which is the best of the Strongbads? I plan on buying one to play with my brother over the holidays (he's a fan of the series) but I don't know much about them or whether it makes sense to go in order.

Dare we hope for a good Christmas VC/WW update?

Majora's Mask, Earthbound, Fire Emblem 1-5, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 1-6. Any of them (Or anything like that) would be much appreciated!

It's a shame you're likely going to get some obscure (or just plain bad) NES or Turbografx game instead.

Edit: lol @ the thought of SquareEnix releasin SNES games for 8$/€ when they can quick-port to DS/PSP and charge 5 or 6 times more.

I think I'm gonna go back to working on my Genesis collection. Even if the VC ever gets back to doing decent updates again it'll still be lacking due to all of the games that will simply never be re-released.

Hell on average I can find a system and like 15 games for less than $30. The Genesis is an incredibly cheap system with an even cheaper library.

To be fair, they did release Ogre Battle in Japan and Secret of Mana in the US not long ago, both of those games could've easily been re-released on DS!

You have to remember that they won't make quite as much money as you may think with those handheld ports since they need to pay for production, manufacturing, licensing from the console manufacturer and the retail cut. VC games on the other hand are pure money (With Nintendo taking a cut)

Right now, I think the only VC game I want that hasn't been released is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. And EarthBound (I never played it as a kid, so I want to try it out).

Man, they're really keeping on the ball with this one. Valve, take notice!

Telltale's been doing episodic gaming right for a while now, this is nothing new (though it is still and will always be awesome).

Really, they're one of the only developers who have gotten episodic gaming right. Hothead seems to be doing well with the Penny Arcade game, assuming they can keep it up. I know that Grimm game on Gametap comes out regularly, but it seems more like they made a full game and just put it up a level at a time (never played it, though). As for Valve, they're making expansion packs. Nothing wrong with that, but I wouldn't call it episodic.

Absolutely.

I'm on record predicting Phantasy Star IV/Castlevania III for North America and Secret of Mana/Mario Golf for PAL Land. There's a lot of other good options they could tap though - Life Force, Ogre Battle, Nobunaga's Ambition, Warsong, MUSHA, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Dragon Slayer, Parasol Stars . . . just a question of pulling the trigger.

All of these VC releases sound like wild fantasies.

Thankfully I've put together my list of Genesis games to get so I can rebuild my empire. All told I believe I have 88 games I have to track down. It won't even matter waiting for the VC to get them because so many are simply lost forever.

I'll also note that these 88 games don't include games I've either played to death or already own(or are already readily available on the VC/various compilations). Yes I'm a huge Genesis nut.

Hey, does anyone have any good recommendations for Japan-only Wiiware or VC games? I finally threw some points into my account the other day and looking through the list is exhausting. I have an American Wii and buy any multi-region releases on that, just looking for some exclusive stuff that I don't know about.

For just 1 game, I guess not. I guess you could justify it if you wanted to buy her a bunch of games at one time.
