Now that we've more than taken care of our secondary issues ,its obvously time to focus on our front seven. While I would prefer either Alan Branch or Gaines Adams, its likely both will be long gone by the time we select at #11. Personally I'm not sold on Adam Carriker. Lawrence Timmons however, is a certified beast. 6'1 235,fast, very athletic, and ultra physical. Not only can he come in immediately and upgrade our defense, but he has tremendous upside and will only get better as he gets more experience. The kid is only 20 years old, and would easily be a top 10 pick in next year's draft if he had opted to return for his senior season at FSU.

Not only will he help us gain a much needed pass rush, but is just as good defending the run, and will pretty much live in the backfield on both. run or passing situations He also has the speed and athleticism to drop back in coverage when needed.

Of course if Ginn was to still be there we need to take a long look at him as well.

suck it niners fans, i love ur pain

I'm not going to lie, I really wanted ADT..(**** that he doesnt' get a cool nickname if he isn't a Niner) Adalius Thomas in a niner uniform, but oh well. Joey Porter is out there, and of course I want Lawrence Timmons in the draft, so I think we'll getting that killer OLB to play opposite Manny Lawson.

Looks like Bucs are going to get Garcia:

BUCS EXPECTED TO ANNOUNCE SIGNING OF GARCIA

Our friends and PewterReport.com and WDAE 620 tell us that the Buccaneers are holding a press conference at 1:00 p.m.

It's widely believed that the purpose of the presser is to announce the signing of quarterback Jeff Garcia. The team has characterized the event as "big", per PewterReport.com.

Stay tuned.

Is it true that the sticking point in the Garcia/Oaktown discussions was JGar wanted a guarrentee that the Raiders wouldn't draft Daunte 2.0 with the number 1 overall? :lol

The bigger story here is the fact that DM will now be able to harness the infinite powers of J-GAR. Quite frankly Im scared for what that means for the NFL threads..

BRONCOS ANNOUNCE TRADE OF PLUMMER TO TAMPA

In a move that can only be described as bizarre, the press release announcing the acquisition of defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson by the Broncos also states that quarterback Jake Plummer has been traded to Tampa for a conditional pick in the 2008 draft.

The release, which was forwarded to us by Adam Caplan of Scout.com, says: "The Denver Broncos on Saturday traded quarterback Jake Plummer to Tampa Bay in exchange for a conditional selection in the 2008 NFL Draft, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. Denver also acquired defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson from Miami in exchange for the Broncos' own sixth round pick (24th in round) in the 2007 NFL Draft."

Apparently, the Bucs have opted to squat on Plummer's rights. If he truly retires, the Broncos would likely get nothing. If Plummer decides not to quit, then the Broncos get a pick in 2008 based on, potentially, Plummer's playing time or performance.

So, as a practical matter, the Bucs now have Plummer, Jeff Garcia, and Chris Simms under contract.

And if Plummer follows through on his apparent plan to retire, the Bucs will have the ability to recoup the remainder of any unallocated signing bonus money from Plummer, even though Tampa didn't pay out the bonus.

???? :lol

That crazy Gruden. :lol

EDIT: Apprently this a move to prevent Plummer from retiring and unretiring to play for a different team. Very wild. :lol

Wait a sec, whoa whoa whoa whoa.

Your TWO teams?

Denver and New Orleans?

Yeah, that's not possible, sorry.

I lived in Denver till half way through High School, Got to witness our back-to-back championships with Elway. Moved to New Orleans and was kinda forced to go with my Dad to games, seaon ticket holder, they grew on me and by the time Katrina hit everyne is sucked into the Saints there, We finally had our first real good team in our history. So yea thats how you end up having two teams.

Whoever has Plummer on the roster has his rights for 3 years if he retires. So he can't just retire then play for someone else. He'll either win the starting job or be cut because I don't see a team keeping him around at his salary to ride the bench.

RAMS SIGN BENNETT

A league source tells us that the Rams have agreed to terms with receiver Drew Bennett.

We're told that the deal will average $4.5 million per year.

Bennett spent the first six years of his career with the Titans.

should set the market for some of the other WR's

Yeah, that weird sound you heard this morning was the nationwide collective of Bucs fans going "ZUH!??!?!??!" DM and I included.

A team source told ESPN.com on Saturday that the Patriots plan to sign Miami wide receiver Wes Welker, a three-year veteran and an explosive all-around performer, to a restricted free agent offer sheet in an attempt to pirate him away from the Dolphins.

The Dolphins earlier this week made Welker a qualifying offer of $1.3 million.

When the Patriots officially execute the offer sheet to Welker, the Dolphins will have seven days to either match it or pass on it. If Miami matches the offer sheet, it will retain Welker at the terms of the deal New England negotiated with him. If the Dolphins do not match the offer sheet, they will receive a second-round pick in the 2007 draft from the Patriots as compensation.

Second round pick for Wes Welker? wow

The poison pill cometh.

Anybody got a scout.com account? Apparently Thomas elected to sign with the Patriots over the 49ers.

He knows who the true Bay Area stud is.

BUCS TO SHIP PLUMMER TO RAIDERS?

There's speculation in league circles that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will eventually trade quarterback Jake Plummer to the Oakland Raiders.

The thinking is that the Raiders are interested in acquiring Plummer as a short-term starter while expected No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell gets ready to play, but that there's no way that the Raiders and Broncos ever could have done business together.

Enter the Bucs, who could end up being the straw man for a deal that puts Plummer in silver and black.

Stay tuned.

Giants guys, I need a scouting report on Visanthe Shiancoe.
Decent hands, better blocker. He could be a starting TE pretty much anywhere, IMO, it's just that here we have Shockey who is better in every sense. Smart player, doesn't make a lot of mistakes, crisp route runner. His hands are good like I said, but he won't run with the ball, and you don't want him to. He has fumbled the ball multiple times trying to pick up YAC. Good pickup IMO. Wish we could keep him, he is deadly for me in Madden with two TE sets.

Hmmm.....I wonder if this means that Kleinsasser is going to see a diminished role. (Don't draft Jimmy K in your fantasy league guys!) And this means we still need a TE that can catch a couple balls a game.

You crazy SOB.

"The Texans have restructured the contract of receiver Andre Johnson to free up $6 million under the salary cap to pursue free agents.

On the day when quarterback Jeff Garcia signed with Tampa Bay, and the Buccaneers also completed the trade with Denver for quarterback Jake Plummer, Johnson got an eight-year, $60-million deal that includes $15 million in guaranteed money.

"I've enjoyed my first four years in Houston, and I'm excited about finishing my career with the Texans," Johnson said today. "I'd like to thank (owner) Mr. (Bob) McNair for showing so much confidence in me. I'd like to thank our great fans for supporting me. I'm looking forward to us achieving our goals of bringing a winner to the city."

Johnson, who led the NFL with a career-high 103 catches, was voted to his second Pro Bowl and was named the league’s best receiver by the NFL Players Association. He had 1,147 yards and scored five touchdowns.

“This is a great thing for us because Andre’s our best player, and he’s going to be a Texan for a long time,” general manager Rick Smith said. “Not only are we ensured of keeping Andre, but we also cleared some room under the cap, so it was a win-win situation.”

Johnson had two years remaining on the seven-year contract he signed when he was the third player selected in the 2003 draft. One year was voided from his original contract when he reached certain incentive clauses.

The Texans need to free up as much money as possible because they’re planning to sign more free agents. Running back Ahman Green and receiver Ashley Lelie are coming to Houston tonight to meet with Smith. They’ll attend the Rockets-Spurs game at Toyota Center and tour Reliant Stadium on Sunday.

The Texans are looking for a receiver to play opposite Johnson. They waived Eric Moulds this week. Lelie was a first-round pick by the Broncos when Smith and coach Gary Kubiak worked for Denver."

you won't keep him for much longer if you don't find a QB to throw him the ball. Maybe thats Gruden's diabolical plan! He's going to sign every QB in the nfl, which means all the best wideouts will have no choice but to sign with the Bucs!

Madden is gonna be scary next year. DM did crazy things with Simms, and now he has a legit QB again.

He was a workout warrior at the Combine that Ernie Accorsi fell in love with.

He's got decent hands, good blocker, but he just lacks something. He was a fine #2 TE that spent majority of his time blocking, but he's not a great YAC at all. He had 7.2 yards per catch in his life-long Giants career.

It was a good signing... at the right price. I think Vikes overpaid ($7M guaranteed for an unknown).

He should up up good numbers for Childress, though.

Free-agent wide receiver Ashley Lelie signed a two-year deal with the 49ers for $4.3 million, including a $2 million signing bonus.

Wow. The Niners just don't stop with this shit lol

I can sort of see why we picked him up though. We always needed a deep threat on every down (just a dude that can outrun everyone else) and this is the type of guy that can do that. If we can have him run deep a couple times a game, maybe frank gore will have more running room, and maybe VD will be able to go over the middle somemore. I never thought he was that good with the Falcons, so I don't really know what to think.

Damn Brady siring spawns all over the planet and stealing a Dolphin fan favorite.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/lo...0,195925,print.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines

The most prolific tight end in Dolphins history is on the trading block.

A source said today that the Dolphins are shopping Randy McMichael, who is the franchise's all-time leader in catches (283) and receiving yards (3,096) for a tight end. The Dolphins are asking for a third-round pick, the source said.

McMichael, a 2002 fourth-round draft choice, is coming off his third consecutive season with at least 60 catches. The Dolphins, though, are revamping their roster under new General Manager Randy Mueller, who already has released four veterans (defensive end Kevin Carter and guards Jeno James, Seth McKinney and Bennie Anderson) while also re-signing just one of the team's 15 unrestricted free agents before the signing period began Friday.

McMichael is set to collect a $3 million roster bonus along with his $1 million base salary for 2007. He is under contract with the Dolphins through 2009.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus said today that he was unaware McMichael is being shopped.

"They have not said anything to me about it nor have any teams contacted me about it," Rosenhaus said. "I've got no comment on it because it's the first I've heard of it."

The Dolphins didn't immediately respond to an inquiry seeking comment.

Tampa Bay free agent defensive end Dewayne White signed a five-year, $29 million contracct with the Detroit Lions on Saturday, according to NFL.com. White, 26, recorded entered the NFL in 2003 as a second-round draft pick out of Louisville.

****!

Bucs and 9ers ruining all the Texans plans....WTF

DAMN JOO DM AND FMT!

Eddie D. must be holding John York hostage or something, can't remember the last time we spent like this. I like Lelie, he'll further stretch the field and give us that deep threat we need. He actually played well before being forced to play with Ron Mexico.

I'm loving what we're doing in FA thus far. And we still have 8 draft picks in the first 4 rounds!

Man, you know your WR core is awesome when Ashley(lol) Lelie and Arnaz Battle are going for the #1WR.

Tamanon said:
Crap, we filled our receiver opening with......Dennis Northcutt.

Bleh.

Um. No, we filled our punt returner opening with Dennis Northcutt (you know, the guy who was fourth in the league for punt return average last year?) - time to say goodbye to Alvin Pearman, I guess. I still expect to see WR addressed either in free agency or the first day of the draft.

welcome ashley lelie! awesome signing. i feel like he will be a great addition and i would have been cool with us surrendering a 3rd rounder last year to denver for him. now we get him for free!

up next:

donte stallworth
joey porter

Yeah man! We apparently have around 20mill in cap room left(give or take a few million), so theres plenty of $$$ left to add some more impact players and to draft with.

I think I'm going to break into CVS and steal 6 months worth of blood pressure medicine. I take the Niners more serious than most even when we're expected to lose, but when we're a contender its 10x worst, and we're certainly a contender going into next season.

Guess we gotta make room, theres gonna be a lot of [un]faithful jumping back on the Niner bandwagon.
