OFFICIAL: Starfield and Redfall delayed to 2023

Bethesda's statement doesn't say anything about the deep dive being shown "very soon". One would expect to see game play in June at their big showcase, but several folks here told me Bethesda doesn't show gameplay until closer to actual game release. So....

Who Knows Idk GIF

Okay, they said "soon." And we know soon is definitely the showcase, summer games fest or a day after the showcase.

As long as they release a good game and I can play it until my Gamepass Ultimate ends in November 2024, I'm good with this.

But hey guys, remember when a bunch of sane people started doubting the 11-11-22 release date because of their weird marketing flex using developer "round tables" and concept art without showing a shred of gameplay footage?
And then some fans got a bit aggressive calling the others "concern trolls" about said comments?

Here's a bunch:

It's almost like they didn't show any gameplay and were trying to gain time with "look at devs promising a good game you need to trust us on this" videos because they actually had nothing worth showing just 6 months before release.
Absolutely disgusting.

Put my Series X up for sale this morning, already sold my PS5. This gen has been the biggest limp dick gen yet. I will buy back in in a year or two when things start to pick up.

I been loving the PS5. Demon Souls, Returnal, Ratchet, GT7, Horizon 2. God of War and FF16 coming hopefully this year. And cross playform games working so much better. I was done with last gen, speed, loading, noise, and fps lol

Ouch...surely the upcoming Xbox Showcase will announce something that will take its place as the "big" holiday title...right?
...right?

And we saw footage in 2014 whether leaked or not, it's been known about, and acknowledged, and was basically an open secret. The point is, as I'm sure you are aware it has been in development since early last gen, and has still yet to launch 2 years into the new gen. Doesn't inspire confidence

I can not find any information leaked footage going back to 2014 only screenshot leak in 2018.

When games get delayed its for the best. Im sure a new IP with Bethesda's main team is gonna have alot of bugs so its better to release without them. Will help the score in the long run.

But for the fans, Im sure $120 For the year of gamepass or however much it is, it isnt really as good of a deal now?

A whole year without 1st party AAA games isnt great. They needed that boost as they are toe to toe with Xbox one sales comparatively.
So there probably gonna have the real… "best e3 ever" as there gonna need to put out all the stops

I pay for ultimate, so it's basically $180 for me. Nobody is paying for game pass for a whole year solely for one game, though Starfield is a big fucking deal, and the game I was most anticipating this year. I pay $180 a year for ALL the games already on and coming to Xbox Game Pass. Game Pass for me is a past, present and future investment. It has a large number of games I want to play now, and am, that I want to play later, and will, and are coming to Game Pass that I'm really excited about. No one game justifies Game Pass. All the games are what justify Game Pass. Starfield, Redfall, Halo Infinite Campaign, Forza Horizon 5, Perfect Dark, Avowed, Contraband, The Outer Worlds 2, Fable, whatever else Bethesda has in the works secretly, the future Activision and Blizzard games etc.

Wow, really barren year for Xbox if they don't have any big surprises close to their chest (which I doubt they have tbh)
I still think Starfield will be huge but this deceptive marketing is something that really rubs me the wrong way.

They take advantage of fans love and hype, and exploit their faith in the studio and the game. This is why I tell fans of all companies to have a healthy sense of skepticism. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo just want to exploit your love of games to do PR on your behalf on forums and twitter.

this also reaffirms what ive believed all this time that release dates these days are stupid. Hardly anyone can even release a game when they promise to get it out, so why even say when you're releasing it to begin with?

Hopefully their show in June will show something that's actually coming out this year
If they didn't know until recently, the only confirmed option is Halo:Infinite Season 3 in November or delay Deathloop to November (which would make zero sense). The best option is to go out and throw stupid money for time exclusive games to hold until the new year. Buying Bethesda was meant to get them out of the barren first party releases.

Remember when 343i delayed Halo Infinite, game released but the mp is still shit compared to Halo 3 and Halo Reach launch. Those games felt complete at launch. Modern games fucking suck.

At least I got Splatoon 3 to play and a backlog of games.

Congrats to Elden Ring GOTY.
All competitors are dropping out.
Even Horizon 2 was overshadowed and forgotten and that was a AAA production.

Not surprising considering how half-assed they been about showing actual gameplay, and Bethesda is one of those studios that needs 1-2 more years of dev time on whatever date they publicly announce.

Is what you are doing an investment? You can get gamepass next year and have all the stuff released previously. So you can avoid this year and just sub when the big games come out. Save some money.

Like I can get gamepass in 2025 for a few months and play everything and then unsub. Now thats saving money lol.

TBH if your enjoying $180 for the yearly game access than thats all that matters. Have fun

How is a game that is being seen in March, April, and now may charting in top most bought games in UK physical/Digital being forgotten?

Does this mean that Bethesda will not be part of the June showcase? Or will they show the game after announcing that it won't come out till 2023
They're gonna pull together a trailer of concept art to hold peeps til this drops but none of it gonna actually be gameplay
Nah I think they will still have gameplay to show off in June. They wouldn't miss an opportunity to generate hype in the absence of E3. It'll just make the delay sting even more :messenger_grinning_sweat:

On a more positive note, I take this as a good indication of Microsoft's influence over Bethesda and a new standard of quality control.
If this were still 3rd party Bethesda they would just release the game in November as is, knowing full well it's broken, incomplete, and full of bugs.
After CDPR botching the Cyberpunk 2077 launch, I doubt any big publisher wants to do the same. Especially considering how much capital Microsoft have spent in securing ZeniMax and their IPs.

Wouldn't be surprised if Starfield doesnt release in 2023 either.

What does this do for ES6? Another 7-10 years?
Xbox 360 got Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim in its livespan.

Modern gaming is trash - its just one big waiting game where things usually arent even worth that wait.

Cancelled my gamepass sub as a way to vote with my wallet for now. Theres nothing on it im actively playing now anyway.

Edit; of course it doesnt mean anything to them and my 15 bucks a month are a drop in the bucket. Just my way of telling them they need to get their shit togeather

Xbot fans: wait till e3

and GOTY goes to............................................................

I don't think I can remember(regarding one of the big 3 not releasing at least 1 or 2 in a down year from their own studios). They got a million studios as this point. That's kinda crazy that they seemingly won't have at least 1 this year.

It's crazy, if you told me they were developing their first new IP in 20 years on a new generation of consoles, during a pandemic, I would believe you!
Fallout was also new for them and it still took them only 2-3 years after Oblivion. So your point is?
Do you really think they're output will magically improve after Starfield and TESVI is out 2 years after that?

The want to ensure you recieve the best, most polished version of them!

But, that's never stopped Bethesda releasing games before.

I turned on my Series X for 7 hours to play Tunic this year. I'm saving on the electricity bill.
Canceling Gamepass for the time being..

This isn't a "modern gaming" problem; there is a managerial issue at the top of Xbox division when it comes to keeping games on track, overpromising and underdelivering. There was no reason to plaster Nov. 12, 2022 for Starfield if they weren't 100% sure they would hit that date, it makes these video vignettes look very stupid in retrospect.

Nintendo doesn't really have this issue. Sony doesn't really have this issue. Majority of the big 3P publishers don't have this issue. This specific issue of promising things and not delivering on what was promised (in this case, hard-set release dates). This is a unique issue and Microsoft are one of the few companies who continuously suffer from it.

Also can we comment on how ridiculous it is PlayStation got not one, but TWO Bethesda games as exclusives meanwhile Xbox's Bethesda games are all getting delayed? How do you spend $7.5 billion and the other platform somehow gets the better deal 🤣?

...right?

According to Jeff Grubb don't bet on it. Like someone else mentioned their best bet is to do something like they did with B4BLOOD. I would get Gotham Knights or something big for fall. But even Gotham KNights looks like shit from the new gameplay they showed off. Microsoft needs something big to close out 2022, and Forza can't be it.

I hope 2023 is like the second coming of christ for them because if Insomniac, Naughty Dog hold true, 2023 going to be packed with big AAA titles.
