ok guys... i'm having a hard time pulling off one of Lei Fei's moves.

hc P+G to
b,f P+G to
qcf P+G

I've done it once out of maybe 60 or so times, I don't get the timing.
Select it in the command list while in command training ("Rakan Shintengeki" under throws) and push the back button, and it'll demo the inputs. The three parts are entered fairly quickly in succession.

I was wondering where the demo option was , it doesn't tell you? I didn't even know it was the back button, also, how do you change costumes when you are picking your player?

Someone add this to the OP. Best guide anyone could ever want for the game, including strat help for every character, and lists of their most damaging combos (some are very advanced).

Hold start, then press A.

Only the more complex/advanced/timing-sensitive moves are demoed. Those will have a yellow marker on them in the command list or when displayed over the ring in command training.

Is Pai considered a newb/cheese character?

I don't want to be one of those players online but a lot of her moves just seem easy for me to pull off for some reason. It might have something to do with the fact that I used Lau a lot on VF 1 and her main combos (pppkp variants) are pretty similar to his. I fell in love with Pai while playing VF2 in an arcade and owning some random dude over and over again with her <-P reversal throw thingy.

Don't confuse my long experience with VF to be any sort of indicator of technical prowess though. :lol I'm still very much a newb when it comes to this even though I have owned just about every version at some point or another. I've just always had a thing for the VF series. I don't find it is as unapproachable to beginners as it usually made out to be.

Any other recommendations for entry level characters? I'm kind of fond of the original (VF1 & VF2) characters. I don't think i have put much effort in learning the "newer" (VF3 and on) characters and was just wondering if they were more advanced or more entry level type fighters?

Sorry for the rambling post. :lol

Just picked this up. Wow.

NO LAG from the 5 or 6 games I just played online (and got my ass handed to me). The getting dumped back to the multiplayer menu after a match is still jarring to me. Is there any way to just hit "rematch" with someone, even if it's your friend in a private match you've set up?

Can't wait to get my Hori stick so I can start dojo for reals.

Did Lion get nerfed in VF5 from VF4? I haven't played any of the versions of VF5.

I think you can rematch in unranked games.

Lion is low-tier in VF5, but it isn't a huge handicap to experienced players.

I'm playing in unranked games but there is no option to rematch.

Has anyone been able to rematch online?

That's exactly when you can hit rematch. Only in player matches when you've set the room to private.

No option to Rematch when playing random people AFAIK.

Pai is the strongest/cheapest character in VF. Some characters have better tools to use against her, but she's uber in the right hands.

AM2 is godly.

seriously god hands.

I love all the chimes and UI tones in this game.

With the high-rez UI menus and the chimes, it totally brings me back to VF2 on Saturn and 1996.

Back when AM2 ruled the earth.

picked the game up and some of the timing is rediculous for something so damn easy... even to cancel out of some charge moves it feels impossible on the 360 controller.

and playing with the d-pad is out of the question... the left button on the directional pad never works right... so i might have to invest in a stick if i cant get used to using the control stick.

heh, I bought VF5 yesterday, and got Sega Rally Revo from Gamefly today...I'm gonna relive some Saturn memories this weekend.

QFT. The interface looks so fucking slick. It deserves more credit.

Yeah. I am going to EB Games tomorrow to pick up an arcade stick. I hope they have one. By the way, does anyone know of any 3rd party controllers that have a good d-pad?

How did Sega do this?

a few more weeks and i will join you scrubs online. (*waits impatiently*)

Dammit this sucks, I really want the game, but I want an Arcade stick that is good and works for the ps3 and 360.

Is there no hope for that? (without spending 300 bucks)

yea I don't think I'd ever pick up the 360 rev unless I moved back to Canada, where there's almost no competition. I mean, I play the game in the arcades about once a month now because of work and because I try to stay away from arcades here (I play too much so it gets expensive). Plus the US -> Japan lag would get a little too messy IMO. I heard that two of my friends did a Chicago -> LA match and it was really good but I worry that overseas matches aren't going to be as good enough to warrant me buying it. Still, it's good to see a lot of people picking up the game. Now all they have to do is come to Japan and play here and realize how crazy some of the players here are!:lol

This is a concern to me as well, but I did get some good matches with U.S. players in DOA4, and everyone is saying that VF5 has less lag, so here's hoping. I expect to get my ass handed to me over and over once the game is out in Japan. :lol

If VF5's netcode (haven't gotten the chance yet to try it out) is just as solid as Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection's, then you hardly have to worry about lag as long as you have a decent connection. I've played about 1600 online matches in Third Strike and I think only 50 of those were unplayable. Mind you: I live in Europe and most people I encounter there are either from America or Japan, hence why I mentioned SF: AC.

You could always rent VF5 and see for yourself, but I reckon that there aren't many stores like that in Japan?

I'm usually good about doing without things I can't afford, but I'm having nervous fits here not being able to play the sequel to the game I bought a PS2 for. I'm gonna have to look into Jumping In over the next few days here. Damn.

My god, I'm playing matches RIGHT NOW with DXMachina and there is not a drop of lag to be found.

This is VF heaven!

Everything else should be set to unused

Thank you very much! I got to 2nd Dan with the control pad, but some of the moves I was looking at seemed really hard to do on a pad.

So, does this play better online than SF2 Turbo? I played that on XBLA for the first time the other day and was seriously disappointed.

I think im doing pretty good with Wolf. 15 and 15 despite the fact that I only remember like 4 moves. I dont understand how these people I play online already have their characters fully customized with a bunch of items unlocked.

FYI, according to CAG this will be 39.99 at Circuit City from 11/4 to 11/11.
This needs to be true.

Most certainly.

Almost any available online beat 'em up has better netcode than SF2: Hyper Fighting on XBLA, and seeing how everyone isn't experiencing any noticable lag in VF5...

Good game man. Pretty embarrassing that I got beat so many times while you were using a pad. Looking forward to facing you when you have a stick. I assure you my El Blaze won't dissapoint next time we play.

But yeah, lag-free VF5 is incredible.

5 pages in and really only one worthless troll attempt? Not bad. What's better is the fact that people didn't bother to acknowledge it.

Not at all. Even if you do like some people and go the modded High Grade or Real Arcade Pro route with a 360 pcb and switcher it will cost less than that.

Cheaper still, would be to look into doing the reverse and buying the Hori stick for $60, and a cheap PS3 (or PC) 3rd party wired pad for ~$30 or so and then dropping that into the Hori 360 chassis. Not sure how many have even considered that as a possibility for cost savings.

I couldn't recomend the fighting stick anymore, if you have a table or desk to set it on it is pure bliss....I didn't think I would enjoy this game that much because after a rental on PS3 I was done with it, but it just feels so right with the stick+online play, hours and hours will be spent playing this online. and after playing all afternoon online I can say I have experienced zero lag:D

The only reason I would have to pick up the 360 rev is to play against friends back home, but I'd rather play in the arcades here with people who are much better at the game, with zero lag (but blackout graphical glitches!). The game comes out in December in Japan so there's an outside chance I might pick it up if there's nothing else I want but I seriously doubt it. For practice the PS3 version is still good enough to use for me, so...

Very cool, how do I go about getting the 360 pcb + switcher route? *googling it as we speak*

Thanks btw :)

I started playing this, earlier today. My God, I simply love it.

Despite having "fixed" my Xbox 360 controller's d-pad. I just have the urge to use an arcade stick. So, tomorrow after work, I'm going to buy one.

That wasn't a troll. He must have checked that thread on srk. It costs 130 or so for the stick shipped, and the people are charging 140 for the job (if you want a switch, 170 if you want it just to work - requires internal hub). Plus 20 dollars probably shipping back to you
