Official Virtua Fighter 5 Battle Arena Version C Thread

Good Youtube users to look for are highkickradio and shinbashi jeff (absolutely sick Jeffry players), jinkagevf5 (great kage player) and siropai (great pai player). I wish some of the better Jacky/lau players had youtube accounts but I haven't found any recently.
Do you also happen to know if there are any Youtube accounts of good Goh players?

Reno, if you get the X360 version we can have our matches that never happened!

Not going to happen.

Edit: er I said in other threads that I'd only get the 360 version if I move back to Canada where there's not a lot of competition. I don't see the point of getting the 360 version when I can play better opponents with no lag at my arcade.

Yes, look for the user gauche5 on Youtube, he has a lot of great Goh matches (his primary is Goh) but he hasn't updated in a long time.

Why can't a fighting game be designed where every character is on the same tier? It's kind of lame that who I choose determines my chances of winning against another player.

Everyone to have the same moveset? pretty boring fighter if so.

But you can't play me!

This game would be exponentially better with a Bungie.net-esque system.

I want to be able to show my character to people without having to play them!

I was kinda thinking the same thing. Because of Bungie, I now wish every online heavy game (which this pretty much is) had some kind of super anal system to track my every move in a game. It sure would help with this - with fighting games, I have a tendency to repeat the same combos and my play pattern gets stuck in a rut when I get too comfortable with a character. It'd be nice to see what I could improve on - aside from generally sucking and just getting my ass handed to me.

That's probably a good idea for the next VF game if you ask me. Actually, what would be even better is if you can save replays of online matches and can trade the replays with friends. Ah well, maybe next time...

Mind telling me what's wrong with my statement?

Using buzzwords like "efficient combos" and "capabilities" and such without giving proper examples doesn't impress me, that's what's wrong with your statement. You seem to think that I put a lot of weight on tiers, which I don't. I know my characters very well, and I also know the characters I don't play because I have the match experience. I'm better equipped to talk about this game than just about everyone on gaf, save for Srider and Jide, both of whom have more knowledge about this game than I do. As for who's the better player, well, I haven't played either of them but I know both of them are from a Western perspective very good, so I have no reason to doubt their opinions.

For what it's worth: Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will try and replicate Bungie.net, especially when it comes to stat tracking.

No.

the tiers dont matter very much in this game. The only reason I picked lei fei was because I like his change ups, same goes with KAge. I picked vanessa because I really like her launchers, and her Offense defense change up is really nice.

This is generally what I imply upon this topic. The game is very balanced; anyone can stand their own ground as long as their skills are sufficient for the challenge.

seriously, I've been playing a guy from Cali, and he uses brad, but he constantly whoops my Lei, I'm not very good and both of us are still learning the system, but he obviously out smarts me at times and I outsmart him at times. The balance is really good though. I'm just a fan of aggressive fighters with good change ups.

Here's hoping that Capcom can pull it off, they might be onto something here. :D

I dunno about that. Tiers do matter a lot in this game but only above a certain level. I think for most people who are starting out or who don't play the game a lot, tiers aren't going to matter much but once you get to a level where you play in tournaments and such you'll notice a lot of imbalances and such that exists in the game. I mean, there's a reason why Kage is the most used character in the entire game, and also the character that usually gets furthest in tournaments. It's pretty tough to beat a character that can ring you out in the middle of the screen.:lol

In what respect?
The hardcore fans of this particular genre (the 'competitive' players) are some of the most elitist pricks I've seen this side of a country club. It doesn't even seem like they're having fun.

Ah, figured that was what you meant.

Maybe they all own 360 Elites. ;P Really, though, competition and elitism kinda live on the same block, I'd imagine.

I don't imagine myself screwing around in ranked matches much, because I'm not a very competitive player. I do anticipate binging in 50 to 100-match chunks, though.

Is there a list of all the changes from version B -> C somewhere? One of my main Akira throw juggles isn't working and I don't know if I'm just out of practice or they changed some properties.

I see... i'm not the authority on this game but, how many gaffers other than you and maybe 4 others are that good?

I'm not good at VF, I never said I was really good. I know a lot about the game and how to play it but by Japan standards I'm merely average (I'm only 5th Dan around here) and by Western standards I'm probably an above-average or "good" player, although I haven't played too many people outside of Japan in the game. It's just my opinion since everyone around me is pretty much king shit in the game. I can and have beat a lot of top players in this area before but what matters most in this game is consistency and I simply don't have it because I don't play nearly as often as I should to keep up with everyone.

Ah like Final Destination only, 3 stock, no items

Yeah, agreed.

Ugh, I'm having some laggy matches and it's not fun. Fighting a Pai/Lau/Jacky with lag means they come at you with PPPPPPPPPPP high/low type stuff and you can't respond correctly with counters or complex moves. >_<

*hmmm, green bars = good. Starting on 2nd player side with joystick and having no idea what the buttons are = bad.

So uhhhh, I keep playing the same 3 guys in ranked vs. I figured VF5 wouldn't have the largest online community ever, but I expected more people playing :\ Seems like a lot of people are playing unranked games but what's the fun of not having that W/L riding over your shoulder giving you pressure?

I play unranked, as its cool to just play some of the people I meet on a consistent basis, that and whats the point in playing ranked when people want to disconnect when they lose. I'm enjoying actually playing people in this game for once and could care less if I lose 100 times in a row as long as I'm getting some game time.

I'll be getting online as soon as my 360 comes back from MS :(

I will make your heads roll confirmed...

So CA. I've actually been having a bunch of good games lately. Some really good players are on already. :D

How do you save a replay of an online match?

I take it you don't play many games online? It's always been my experience that most prefer unranked to ranked. (Myself included) Is there any reason VF would be substantially different? (Not trying to be a jerk or anything- I'm just asking)

not sure... I originally thought the VFTV would be like the one in Virtua tennis in which I could watch a live game.Oh well.

Well having a W/L record actually plays a part of matches in the psychological aspect. If it's round 5 and whoever takes the round wins, if there is a W/L that counts the players will get really pressured. You don't have that in player matches where there is no W/L stats.

Anyhow, anyone want to get some games in? I'll probably be on another 30 mins or so tonight.

Ok, cool.

This is also my first VF, Narag. I just got done playing a buddy online for a few matches. No lag at all. So fucking awesome. He said he "knew was he was doing" but I held my own. :P

Had some really good matches. Got owned as many times as I owned myself. Online ftw.

Does the game match you by your rank in quick search/custom/create under ranked? It sure seemed like it.

Besides the Hori sticks, are there any other sticks I can get? Anyone know if this is a good one?

Shame AM2 didn't have enough time to go 'all the way' with online though, because a dedicated website à la Bungie.net would've been very sweet, especially if there was a stats page with your character's portrait. Other than that, still satisfied with the netcode after 70 matches and only 5 of them had very little lag.

.

+1
I hope this sets the standard for online play being in every fighter from here on out. AM2 nailed the netcode with minimal lag, now if they could pull of a Halo type matchmaking system and online stats that are connected to the arcades it would be legendary

I'm confused...is this the thread about the 360 version of VF5?
Mostly, yes. I left it open in case Sega gets around to updating the PS3 release. Any and all arcade discussion is also welcome as well as helpful.
I'll add a link to Reno's thread since there are some arcade, PS3 and general VF goodies in there.

Huh? Most of the top players I know are actually pretty cool people.
