Not bad. ~$100
I have never seen that one before, I would have bought that one considering its only 40$ more than the Hori I just bought and it has the "wine glass" style stick..anyone know if there is a mic input on it??

Hmm, I rented it and it's not nearly as bad as the demo was. It's pretty fun but I don't know how long that will last as I'm not a fighting game guy really.

You guys seem all way more hardcore at it than I am. No idea what any words you're using are. I just like my B B combo :D

It's a great game. I've played VF forever, and I've played a few excellent players online so far. Better than anyone I ever played in the arcade here (although the last VF game I played in an arcade was VF3)

I really need to learn the new moves in the game, never mind get a more suitable controller, but I have a hard time justifying the money for a stick that I'll only ever use for this game...

Anyhow, the game is as good as ever... but holy crap, it looks fantastic.

I suppose when you compare the cost of the arcade machine, with the game an Xbox 360 and the Hori stick then it's a bargin if you're really into it.

True. That said, I've never minded playing with a pad (I actually had two Virtua Sticks for the Saturn and I preferred to use the controller). The problem with that, of course, is the obvious issue of the 360 D-pad sucking hugely.

Another issue is the lack of availability here in Canada... I know I can get it, but I do wonder about what the end cost will be. $85 looks like sort of the benchmark price, including shipping.

can anyone help a vf5 noob here? i get my ass handed to me online which is fine by me (right now), but i would like to know how i can getup faster so people don't get easy damage by using UP+P. I can techroll in DOA4 by using X at the moment i hit the ground but that doesn't seem to work in VF5 (or am i not timing it right?).
Been going through the dojo movelist but can't find it there.

How the FUCK did AM2 go from vf4 to vf5? vf5 feels completely broken to me. Things dont make sense at all! Like for example, in vf4 it was easy to put in a throw when you blocked a big move. Thats how its supposed to be imo. And here people can just put in a punch. It just makes it more mashfriendly and completely ruins it for me.
I played vf4 evo to death because imo its not just the best beat ' em up ever, but also one of the best games ever. And the more I play vf5 the more I think it sucks. vf4 was perfect.

You can tech roll with P+K+G or if you've already hit the ground you can jam on the G button to roll out of the way or the P button to try and get up faster.

Stat-tracking + AI mode from VF4 = Awesomeo. Please do it if you can, the one in VF4 is very functionable and great to use as a training mode (practice against yourself)

Yeah, that was really cool.

VF4: EVO had the greatest training mode, ever. I really hope VF5 ends up getting something similar to it.

some attacks can beat out throws this time, due to the clash system. You just have to put your self in a guaranteed throw position.

VF4 Throws = 8 frames
VF5 Throws = 12 frames

Also throws are slightly slower now so moves which had throws guaranteed in vf4 are no longer in VF5.

Attacks could always beat throws in VF4/VF5. Depending on if you had enough frames to attack. IN VF5 depending on the situation if someone throws and the opponent attacks a clash can occur. It's not random it's been pretty well thought out(Guide on Virtuafighter.com). However I prefer VF4's system, far less complicated.

If you block a big move AFAIK most characters have a combo starter to counter with, which obviously does more damage than most throws in the game.

my first day of VF5 Online.

1. It's so different from VF1 and VF2!! :lol :lol
2. My skills are pretty pre-historic now! :lol :lol

but it's pretty fun. Being able to play a human opponent, really changed the way I felt about fighting games, and thinking about reading some faqs regarding my fav. Sarah - but I see that she's ranked "C" character. :(

I'm trudging through Quest mode as Aoi, and I'm wondering, how do you unlock the costumes for the other characters? I think I can unlock the costume items through the main "customize" menu, but what about the extra costumes? Will they be item prizes? I want that "all items unlocked" achievement, BTW...

I believe you unlock new costumes through ranks. Like you get your 3rd costume when you reach 1st Dan and your 4th some time after that.

Getting all of the singleplayer achievements is going to take a looooooooong time. I'm currently Veteran ranked on my Eileen and I still haven't cleared the first arcade.

Yeah, I have Aoi's third costume now, but what about unlocking costumes for the other characters?

It works the same way. Just start up quest mode with the character you want to unlock stuff for and go to it.

I think you get the 4th costume when you fill up the orb grid thing, but I may well be wrong about that.

Oh, okay, I get it now. I have to do it individually with each character? And is this to unlock the costumes, or are there other things that need to be unlocked? Can I get an item list?

Just wanted to chime in and say that El Blaze is now one of my all-time favorite fighting game characters.

Here's the personal comment I gave him:

A la lucha hasta muerte!

Seriously--he's crazzzzy fun to use.

Blaze is HILARIOUS. His animations look so much like Fire Pro Wrestling that I have to think someone used that for inspiration.

Trying to find the time to learn him and take him online.

I'm totally clueless on item unlocking. Will the orbs help me unlock items for other characters?

Nope. You unlock items/emblems only for the character you're currently using. Thankfully with how well the game is designed you can play the same character for hundreds if not thousands of hours and not get bored with him or her.

Okay, so I have to play quest mode with every character to get the "all items unlocked" achievement. This is going to take a while. That achievement should be more than 50 points...

Um..no you don't.
It says it right on the achievement listing:
"Collect all items using the same character data."

So all you have to do is use one character and collect all of their stuff to get the achievement.

Man, don't worry about what rank the character is. Vf is a well balanced fighter, so It won't make any real difference unless you are a top tier tournament player. Just pick a character you like and stick with them.

Agreed. People, please stop worrying about these character ranking as they do not mean anything. Look at all the videos I've posted to see what I mean. Hell, go and look at this one of Eileen against a famous player called "Homestay Akira":

Yeah, I hear you. :)

One of the reason that I picked Sarah was that her moves are simpler to execute w/ crummy 360 pad and since she's got pretty fast and effective basic moves, it would be easier to understand the inner workings of the VF itself w/o overwhelming myself. Time to check out various strategies vs different characters, and prepare myself for some serious ranking match challenges. :)

That's the spirit!!

Oh, I hope this video will help your Sarah skills (vanessa players should watch too)

Here's one for Jacky if you think about going to him:

Ok... Let me show you what we're missing:

Damn. I really really wanted all the VFTV glory but the answer is really obvious as to why it wasn't included in the Xbox 360 version. But what they could have at least done was allowed us the opportunity to see some of the matches that goes on in Japan.

Oh, thank God. That would have taken ages. :D

I really can't adapt to varying playstyles at all so button-mashers run over me like a steam roller to a bug. I'm no good at this game competitively. :(

Finally got it.
The lag is acceptable , theres almost none.

What is unacceptable however, is the horrid , HORRID 360 d-pad.

I mean WOW , this thing is TERRIBLE.

Hit forward and it does forward up,every friggin time.

I smashed the controller once and broke it lols.

Good thing it was my old one , which i had modded the d-pad on, and is still terrible.

And man , its hard playing people with goh.

I love it , but people do that up+punch when youre on the ground TOO MUCH.

Not everyone , but most people over use it and its damn annoying.

Either way , with a proper controller , i will be much better.

Anyone have any suggestions for controllers with a decent d-pad?

Controllers not arcade sticks please.
Thanks!

Better than being no good at the game at all. Someone should start a support group for crap VF players.

:( Guess you can sign me up for that. I haven't played a VF game since part 2. Is there a good, all around, noob charcter I can run with? I used to play with Akira and the drunk guy, but their moves are a lot more complex then when I last played. I don't want a button masher character, just someone with easier to pull off moves.

Also, I'll try to find the link for those Mas sticks. There was only one style left for sale, and that was going for $170.

Hori has a controller with the ps2 style dpad. Not sure if they sell it in the US though. Go to their website and check it out.

Try using the analog stick. I use Goh as well and had the same complaints for a while, but then I learned how to do an Offensive / Defensive Move and tech rolls. I definitely improved after that, even though I still need expand my current move set.

Note that there are no button mashing characters in VF. No correction, even if you mash the buttons you'll lose against an average player. So practise to learn the characters proplerly; go through the tutorial videos that I've posted previously.

As for a character to start of with, please use either of the following below:

- Jacky
- Lau
- Brad
- Wolf

Everyone @ please watch the following sickening solid matches:
