Trojan you seem to know quite a bit, are you willing to give me some tutorial matches? I don't have my stick as I have sent it off to be modded, but I should be able to play on controller well enough.Trojan X said:Note that there are no button mashing characters in VF. No correction, even if you mash the buttons you'll lose against an average player. So practise to learn the characters proplerly; go through the tutorial videos that I've posted previously.
As for a character to start of with, please use either of the following below:
- Jacky
- Lau
- Brad
- Wolf
Everyone @ please watch the following sickening solid matches:

He doesnt have that much offensive , but his counters are awesome and so are his down grabs.
Please do. Even though at $170 the price is starting to look less attractive...Masta_Killah said:Also, I'll try to find the link for those Mas sticks. There was only one style left for sale, and that was going for $170.
In the interest of full disclosure, this is my "1st" VF so no one could possibly be worse than I am (or will be once I start playing). After admiring the series for years I did buy VF4 Evo, but I had even less gaming time back then and ended up playing a total of maybe 4-5 hours and never got around to going back to it. Yes, for shame. I was all set to give it another try when the home version of VF5 was announced and then decided to wait when a 360 release was mentioned to see which would be better. Sorry, guys I'm not even close to being a hardcore player. I just happened to start the thread when the original was moved to the online forum.Masta_Killah said:·feist· said:Better than being no good at the game at all. Reno said:Some slight corrections for haunts' post (which is pretty good btw, covers quite a bit of Goh's stuff!)
It's f+P, P, not f+P, f+P.
Reno said:b+P, K is good but you need to hit check the K, otherwise the recovery is bad enough that it guarantees a throw attempt from the opponent...
Reno said:For f, f+K, the normal combo to pull off is d+P, shoulder. A ground throw is alright but it's escapable and you potentially lose damage. f, f+K, d+P, shoulder works on everyone except Akira, El Blaze, Kage and Shun... I think the general combo is to throw out a f+P, P after the kick crushes the opponent. It induces a slam effect as well so you can add in a ground hit on top of the two punches.
Reno said:One more move to add ... use b, f+P!! That's one of Goh's best moves because it's vastly improved over VF4. It now knocks down on any hit and also leads into combos, usually with f+P, P.
I wonder how long they took to unlock those masks.Trojan X said:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KW7Ym4VYeJM - Wolf vs Brad

haunts said:Yeah, I use it here and there. It works more often than I think it would and after a while you can totally hit confirm the b+p
I was going to add that but I guess I think that is more of a defensive/counter move. What do you think? I typically use it when I block a big move, or they wiff something somewhat close. I don't use it too much just out in the open though but maybe im missing opportunities..
awesome...lei fei is my primary character, when you get the 360 version let me know.Trojan X said:I honestly don't mind giving you some tutorial on the game but I do not have the 360 version of the game, yet. I only have the PS3 version and i've been playing the game extensively while I stayed in Japan. If you still like me to give you some advice then please let me know, otherwise you have to wait until I get the 360 version.
For those that are curious: my main characters are Akira, Lei Fei, Eileen and Pai. My tournament characters are Akira & Lei Fei. My ranking with Akira is Liberator and my ranking with Lei Fei is Conqueror. In Japan I am seen as a average player among the elites so, in Super Saiyan terms, if Chibita a Super Saiyan 4 then I'm a high Super Saiyan 2.
Ok, here's a great match with Eileen fighting again El Blaze, a fight you ALL must see:

Great game that just feels great online too despite the occassional lag. It was probably a mistake to try and learn El Blaze as my first VF character but its fun once he gets going.
I guess he has some new material for a blogpost, then.CurseoftheGods said:Holy shit. I just met Ryan (from 1up) randomly in an online match. :lol I beat him.![]()

Finally achieved Master rank with Pai in Quest mode and brought the game over to the studio to challenge Ken, the korean guy. He plays with a stick and we didnt have any, so he was seriously capped and even then his best guys beat all my subs, once I got around to using my main (Pai) I didnt lose a single match.
Scared of how good hell be once we get the stick, really, I like my 166 wins- 9 losses record
I find I have extreme problems with hitting a shoulder button at the same time as face buttons. I just leave the config as is and sit the pad down, working the buttons with fingers and not my thumb.Attack You said:For anyone still using a pad, until you've decided that you like the game enough to invest in a stick, I strongly recommend putting G on RB. It's unintuitive anywhere else, IMO.

:lol That's actually how my friends know they're getting better. I hold the pad normally until I think they might have a chance of beating me. When I put the pad down and put the fingers on it, they know they're about to get worked over for being a little too good.
Yeah, the controllers that adopted the NiGHTS pad triggers failed to realize one of the crucial elements of the Saturn pad: Six equally sized, well-laid out face buttons.Attack You said:If I tried that, my hands would cramp up. My fingers are too thick. On VF4E, I had G on R2, because it's more comfortable for my index finger to hit that back shoulder button. It's discouraged now, because of that fucking analogue trigger that has been entirely useless for fighters since the NiGHTS pad.
God's Beard said:I just use the shoulder buttons to replace the button combinations. K+G and P+K would be rediculous otherwise.
3RT,6P,RB is almost too easy, whereas DLC would be imposible with the face buttons. Not to mention how much easier PKG is to do on LT.
Yeah, I'm the same way. I don't actually mind other people using them, but to me, for myself, it feels like cheating.Attack You said:The peeps I play with use the other buttons to assign button combinations (P+K, K+G). For whatever reason, I never liked to rely on those. Even in Street Fighter, where I'll consciously put Px3 or Kx3 on their own buttons, I never use them.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled good players.
These guys also make a 360-compatible stick that should be comparable to a MAS:·feist· said:Please do. Even though at $170 the price is starting to look less attractive...

You can customize the parts and button layout (including a curved layout more appropriate to VF). It used to be that there were guys on the shoryuken.com forums who'd build nice custom ones for around the same price as MAS, too.
I fought a Vanessa that was for sure named Sniper Woof the other day. I don't remember her looking exactly like Sniper Wolf and she had an assault rifle, not a sniper rifle.PowerSmell said:Has anyone noticed any changes to the quest mode characters?
Anyone remember the Sniper Wolf Vannessa in the PS3 version, named Sniper Woof :lol , who looked exactly like Sniper Wolf, complete with Rifle? For some reason they renamed her S Wolf and gave her the default Vanessa costume.
I consider that to be cheating, IMHO. I just use the usual PKG setup without any funky mapping. This goes for any other fighter as well.Attack You said:The peeps I play with use the other buttons to assign button combinations (P+K, K+G). For whatever reason, I never liked to rely on those. Oh, and although I've been playing VF since VF1, I prefer controllers to arcade sticks, so recommending an arcade stick is pointless.
