Just so anyone doesn't waste any money(like I unfortunately did)I will run down the 2 controllers I got since I got VF5
Hori EX Turbo Controller
I got this in a week ago.
When I got this in it felt surprisingly comfortable in my hands and the directional pad and buttons felt spot on. . ..but then I decided to test it.
First I went in Street Fighter II HF to see if traditional directions would work good. This is where I found the fatal flaw though.Only about 75% of my inputs would register correctly.I'm not sure if this is the directional pad itself or the buttons or a combination of both.A lot of times when I would do a hadoken or sonic boom I would end up getting a neutral punch or kick every other input.
Next I tired it on Virtua Fighter 5.The same thing applied to this game also.Trying to do Evades and Crouch Dashes were only successful 75% of the time and doing moves that involved Down-forward combinations didn't come out too good at all.
In my opinion this controller is passable for Xbox Live Arcade games that don't rely on many fast or combination inputs, but for people like me who really want their execution to be at it's peak for a controller on Fighting games,I would not recommend it at all.
Next. . .
Gamestop Xbox360 Controller
I found a used one for $20 at a Gamestop I work near a couple weeks ago.
This controller like most of gamestops 3rd party ware isn't too comfortable on the hands. Its in the same similar shape as the Microsoft 360 controllers but all the buttons are pretty stiff at first, but the trigger buttons are much more stiff and just plain suck for just about everything. The analogs are also very cheap and could probably snap and break easily.
When it comes to the directional pad though, this is the most responsive one you can possibly get imo.Not that its perfect though. The only execution problem with the directional pad is that, like the face buttons,it's made of stiff plastic.Along with that, the back direction does not like to respond all the time,so this makes back dashing and QCB moves more of a pain to do. I would choose this this over the Hori Controller, just for execution of moves.
Overall I really wouldn't recommend either controllers to people who want all of their moves to come out when they are suppose to and to just either wait for a decent Xbox controller converter(the XFPS is a huge waste of money since it makes just about anything you plug into it unresponsive)or invest in the Hori Joystick or even get a custom one built from someone dependable at the shoryuken.com forums.
