Official Virtua Fighter 5 Battle Arena Version C Thread

I have a pretty cool black D outfit for Aoi now, but I want to see what I can do with the A one. A colorful B also works but for that I first need her tanned version (got really really lucky on PS3 getting three color matches in a row, won't get so lucky again) and that will take ages.

I've had about 70 matches online and only a couple with really horrible (unplayable) lag, but also only a few with no noticable lag. When I then went back to Quest it felt really weird. You really do have to adapt to two completely different games.

Unfortunately, no. You'd need two adapters to get full functionality out of the X-Arcade stick on a 360.

For what it's worth the XFPS itself doesn't seem to hinder kb/m response and has been said to work well with 1st party DualShock pads (there's even a video of someone playing a lag-free game of PES 2007 on the system with an original PS1 pad). That said, needing two largely unproven adapters to use the stick - the direct usb connection is said to be limited - seems a bit of a stretch.

Where you considering using the stick with a PS3 and/or PC? This is an instance where modding looks to be a more direct and reliable option.

http://joaomgcd.planetaclix.pt/gamesleaderboards/Virtua Fighter 5.xml I won :lol

Seriously, Quest mode on normal is just so much easier than it was in VF4/EVO. Kyu and Dan opponents can be beaten by just PPPK-ing (or your character's equivalent) all the way. I did get owned by 9th dan Shun (yeah I know) and a 10th dan Brad in the north arcade. The AI of this game is definitely weird. I once lost a match to a crazy hyper Lau player, but when I rematched him, he hardly moved at all, and I had 2 flawless games.
In total, I have about 1150 wins and 8 losses.

Also, when you completely finish Quest, you get a "cheat" that gets you the maximum amount of money for the next character you start. Pretty cool bonus.

And anyone worried about not getting all the items/emblems: don't. You'll get everything eventually. I won all the item/emblem tournaments pretty early in the game, but I think they'll show up again later in the game should you lose a tourney.
There are also a ton of item battles where you win money (the silver ones, the gold and coloured ones are items), so you'll easily be able to buy everything in the shop without doing additional tournaments.
The last 2 items I got with my Lion was purple hair and a blue light armband. His back item was a keyboard heh. It looks pretty stupid compared to the cool items everyone else has, but I'm still using it.

Congrats. I haven't been putting as much time as I thought I would into the Quest Mode thanks to the online play. I am going to try to finish it though.

So has it been determined whether the dlc is something you can get without buying? If not, was this stuff allready in the arcade version and Sega is making a quick buck on console users? I might buy it if it's all new stuff just for the consoles.

Also, VF.com forums said Version C lets you swap out parts of each 4 outfits for every character (for ex A Akira's shirt with D Akira's pants) for the arcade version. I wonder if it'll be implemented in the console rev?

You know. I do not trust that adapter because I'm yet to see anyone test it via the USB yet. I want to know whether the PS3 Fighter Stick & Virtua High Grade stick would work via the USB port and whether the PS2 hori stick would work via the PS2 port without a problem.

I cant believe the cost of getting a good stick to play with. I was planning on ordering in a VSHG then modding it to work for 360 as well, the price of the stick isnt to bad, i coulda lived with the price to mod it, but when you factor in shipping, and import fees, an 80 dollar stick quickly turns into a 200 dollar one ... le sigh, what to do, what to do...

like you said Soul Calibur IV, and VF5.

Also the upcoming Street Fighter II HD Remix, and Street Fighter IV.

Plus you can always use it on all those xbla games that come out.

It really seems like it would actually get quite a lot of use on the 360.

From the AM-net website

2008/初 「VERSION D」(ノックアウトトライアル2、コスチューム追加、公式オープンバトルなど追加)
2008/未定 「エボリューション」(2キャラ追加)

2008 / Early year release [Version D] (Knockout trial 2, addition of costumes, new mode "official open battle" added)
2008 / TBA [Evolution] (2 characters added)

So VF5 Evolution is coming.
I hope the home version (provided there is one) resurrects VF4's training mode

Yes, I'd hit that. I'm competent with Aoi, but I really need to learn the deep stuff. How do you do an offensive move, anyways?

Double tap up (or down) then press P+K+G immediately afterward. This will cause a more dramatic sidestep. Most if not all characters can link this to a P or K move.

Okay, I was doing it wrong, then.

Got a few questions. I play as shun.

First I notice I'm getting hit with attacks that break my block and make me stumble. Is there any defense for this other than trying to prevent it?

Second, what are some shun moves that do ^^^^ that.

Third, does shun have any low throw moves?

Finally, I can not get the counters down. Any tips?

1. Huh? A stumble? What kind of stumble are we talking about here? Are you talking about a stagger (where the joystick icon appears on the screen)? If that occurs that means you got hit with a mid-attack while crouching or someone hit you with an attack that naturally has stagger properties against anyone who blocks (aka Akira's f+P+K+G, IIRC)

2. If you can confirm what kind of stumble it is, then this question can be answered. :)

3. Nope...

4. What counters? For Shun? Are you talking about his sabaki attacks? If it's the latter, then sabaki counters only work against certain attacks. i.e. his "rainbow" sabaki (sou koku kyuu P+K) will nail high and mid punches, elbows and high kicks.

Actually, only one tap.

1. ya sorry I don't know the proper lingo yet. I do indeed mean the one where the joystick icon appears.

2. ^

3. That sucks. I do know a few good moves to pull of for people who are ducking and guarding, I just really wanted to grab those fuckers and chuck em :lol

4. I'm sorry again I think it's actually called a parry. When an opponent attacks and you catch that attack and turn it against them.

Thanks, I didn't notice that since I only learned it by trial & error. That fraction of a second saved will actually make a big difference. no sarcasm.

Can anyone pull off Akira's Standing Knee K+G (release G within 1 frame)? I think I did it once by accident in VF3, though never again.

This is another one of Akira's moves that pwnz, yet is a bitch to pull off:
Stun Palm, Reverse Body Check, Double Palm
P+K+G (hit) bdfP+G b or fP

Not sure if it's been listed before in this thread, but THIS is a good move list guide.

1. If you want to escape a stagger you gotta do what the joystick does. :P Just keep tapping back and forth to struggle out of a stagger.

2. Shun has his d/f+K that staggers if someone is crouching. I think his PP move from his fake drunken stance also staggers on crouch. His flying headbutt and charge attack stagger on block.

3. If someone is ducking just stagger them and launch them with Chowan (qcf+P)

4. I don't think Shun has any counters... he just has Sabakis.

for Goh players, here's a decent Goh that I played last night after my Tekken 6 session. He gets off some good combos and you can see how in tune he is with his character and what Goh can do. Man, that 2 month layoff of VF5 really screwed me over. It feels like I'm starting all over again. :(

Hey, didn't you get your finished stick back? More impressions, please. Vs the stock Hori and, if possible, stock/modded High Grades and HRAPs.
I did but my pcb was bad in the hori stick and it crapped out fast. Akuma001 is being awesome and getting me a new pcb. From what i played its a big difference. Movement becomes way easier, and I can basically blow on the buttons for them to activate.

VF5 PS3 got a 9/9/9/8 at that time.

That makes absolutely no sense. Did Famitsu give their reason as to why the score is like this?

The Xbox version is everything of the PS3 version including Online, version C and better A.I. So why should it be marked lower? PS3 version - 35/40; Xbox version - 32/40. I'm sorry but this must be some kind of joke because I fail to see logic in those grades.

The Sixaxis is better than the 360 controller for fighters, I assume they are grading it based on controllers and not optional fighting sticks.

Congrats. I might look into that at some point.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the standard 360 pad factoring into that.

okay, a wierd question about quest mode:

is there any way to 'finish' it? At this point I'm 7th DAN, but I haven't found cause to mess around much more. It is certainly fun, to be sure, but I get the impression that the fights keep resetting indefinitely.
fight your way to the top 7th dan isn't the top:p

hey man... whats up!!

haha i can finally post in this thing. :P

gonna look around for a stick to gut tomorrow. there are still a couple in my area in stock so it shouldn't be a problem to find one.

Heh, Akuma, I guess you are one of the noobies (I am NOT a Junior Member, but unfortunately I got demoted a few months ago for "backseath modding" - commenting on someone who made a dumb post and I jokingly said he should have his posting privileges removed.... ya... welcome to NeoGAF =( ).

m0dus said:
Well no f#$ng DUH.

I'm asking if there is actually an endpoint to work toward, sherlock. :p

Yes, for quest mode completion you need to place in the Virtua Fighter World Tournament Finals.

You still have a lot more levels to gain to get to it though. Also, after that you go on to beat all 1000 or so A.I opponents. Then collect all the items, emblems, and orbs.

Also, can we please get some feedback on the XFPS Sniper? Come on Markman do a review on it. :P If it has no input delay problems then they will start to sell a lot of them to PS2 stick owners that now own a 360 and VF5.

Jirotrom said:
haha...I wasn't sure so I left that comment.

some of the achievements are to defeat all challengers at specific arcades. How do you accomplish that? It seems they just keep coming.
