:)

Sweet. I found this part really funny when they were sailing to Little Garden.

Sanji teaches that duck animal to drink from a straw...and then they kept feeding (or whatever word is use for drinks) mugs and mugs of his drink....and then it passes out and vomits....LOL...I was dieing at the part

One Piece wore thin with me over the course of Arabastia and Skypeia, both of which really dragged and the latter was more of a side-quest than anything else...

...however, finally bridged the gap between K-F and post K-F eps I had and the Water 7 uber-arc has not only redeemed the show entirely, it's taken it to levels it's never been before. Now if only ADC would hurry up and give me my new eps!

I stopped watching about a year and a half ago, because there were fillers and I never got around to watching one piece after it. I think I got to 145 (Luffy and the rest were helping an old man they thought was about to die or something like that). Which episode did it return to the canon? I hate fillers :(
Sounds like you only got to 130-something. That little batch of fillers ends with 143, I believe, so start with 144 (the start of Jaya/Skypiea).

Davy Back Fight arc redeemed One Piece.

Water 7 pushed it to new levels of awesome.

Hmmm, I sort of disagree. Davy Back Fight was a fun concept, but it was like 10 episodes too long. Everything after the 2nd round of it felt unnecessary and drawn out. Water 7 brought One Piece back to its roots, adventuring. Seeing them touring the city and discovering new sights really made me smile. Enies Lobby is going to be great (especially after I got my manga this past weekend, can't wait to see the fights animated), but the invasion of it in the beginning, as well as a few character history episodes, took some of the momentum away.

Episodes? You're talking the show, then. I was referring to the manga, which cuts out about half of the crap.

Spoilers for chapter 436 is out:

Franky is joining, and they got their new ship. It's double the size of the Going Merry. Also they somewhat explain why Sanji's bounty picture is so bad.

..and you were responding to somebody who was talking about the show. :P

Water 7, The Train, and Enies Lobby are all the same arc. I don't know where you get the "back to its roots" statement either. Skypeia was about adventuring, but it dragged on. Water 7 hasn't.

I think I found my new favorite ARC...The Wapol arc is the best arc I have seen so far...I have not finished it..but Chopper's back story is pretty amazing...and just everything about this ARC I am enjoying...

I think Arlong is a close second.

But I found the Little Garden Arc dull....This anime keeps going up and down... But I guess I shall just enjoy what I can.

hahahaha, you just wait to see whats a head of you...the next arc, the overarching arc...is by far the best up to that stage....much much better than arlong and infinitely better than drum island

manga -
OMG @ THE NEW SHIP! AWESOME!!! :D I read a spoiler here I think where the poster described as 2 times as big as the going merry... this looks more like 3 times big, it's huge! it has 2 freakin' masts! so wacky and full of character too. the wavy sides look like a tribute to merry or something, and I'm not sure what's the function of the really low inverse arc portion on the sides... I can't wait to see if franky adds any cool weapns to it... or maybe that cannon-looking thing at the back is one? who knows, I guess we'll see through the next arc what it can do. :)

so now we have...

- bounties on all members. they're one of the most wanted crews now.
- which means nick names for all members too, they're all recognized pirates now.
- new super cool ship.
- 8 members, that's only 2 short of luffy's goal of 10 I think? almost a full crew.

it's all set for their entry into that second half of the grand line... new world was it called? pre-grand line = first gear. grand line = second gear. new world = THIRD GEAR WOOT.

ODA = GOD.

Ace!!!!

That was a great episode...they introduced ace and captain smoker...and we find out that's his brother!!!

You're attention please!

Ahem...

It is being reported on several forums that 4Kids has confirmed that 4KIDS HAS HALTED ALL PRODUCTION ON NEW EPISODES OF THE ONE PIECE DUB. They are recommending that people direct further inquiries on the matter to Toei, and state that they will not continue the series.

show details
Dec 4 (14 hours ago) Jerry,

I am sorry to say at this time there are no additional episodes being adapted by 4Kids Entertainment.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Best Regards,

Roz Nowicki

"I would recommend that you direct your inquiries to Toei Animation. At this point 4Kids does not plan to adapt any further episodes of the series.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Roz"

Please be advised before you begin celebrating that these reports are based on forum members posting alleged email responses from 4Kids execs, which means it's not exactly the most reliably honest of sources, however, boards like Toonzone are less likely to be sources of BS than a lot of other boards. Nor is Toonzone the only board that this information is being posted.

Also note that it would appear this does NOT mean they have lost the license. Their license agreement lasts until 2009, as it stands now. They simply are no longer adapting the series. It has also been confirmed (via episode titles that have been released) that the 4Kids dub got at least to the end of the Rainbow Mist filler arc (though a large number of the post-Arabasta fillers were skipped), before the Jaya Arc.

Im not a huge fan of one piece, and Im not willing to argue over points with it, I had a very bitter agrument over with people in gamefaqs, and I dont want to get banned when I just got here, That being said- I think the business cannot have another major anime success in the vain of DBZ/Pokemon anymore. At best it can have some what of a Tenchi success, but nothing like DBZ. The animation TV business has moved towards European Productions now and the american companies are content with it.

Uhhh...what? I don't exactly see this rich and booming european animation industry you refer to. Meanwhile, the Naruto anime seems to be doing pretty well as well as several other anime titles. Trying to predict "the next big thing" is a fools errand.

It really is a shame One Piece didnt get the chance to shine as a dubbed anime. People that've only ever seen the dub think its an awful rubbish show, but when shown just the first episode of fansubs, their opinion is quickly changed. If 4kids really has stopped touching anime, that will be a godsend. They've ruined countless anime's I've enjoyed with the cheap bullshit. Pun-filled re-scripting, replacing all the original music with AWFUL rubbish, and just generally seemingly sabotaging it in the worst ways possible. I don't know if One Piece will ever be picked up for dub again really, as its not the same situation as the DBZ dub switchover.

In other week, in the manga this week:
Franky finally joins the crew, and Robin performs a pretty ecchi yet violent attack on his exposed nasties o____o

Hmmm, you're right, at least for the first few episodes of Skypeia, detailing their journey there. I guess what I meant was adventuring and progressing the main arc of the story, which Skypeia failed to do. After the events started to unfold up there, it was pretty clear that this was just a sidestory, a huge long never-ending one at that, filled with characters I just did not care for.

in japan though...one piece might be a bigger success than DBZ....in the manga at least...which is slowly but surely catching...also given that it is infinitely superior to DBZ

anyway, dbz is so basic a bad dub cant ruin it that muc, you really just watch it for the power ups and the fights...but one piece, is about the spirit of adventure, character development, nakama dynamic and the epic scale (far greater than DBZ in many ways)...they butchered it for 4kids

Ok, thats in Japan though. Saint Seya was a success everywhere else but the states. And I dont think it was that much buchered.

And what I ment by European Productions: Code Lyoko, Totally Spies, Monster Allergy, Winx Club, WITCH (The Planned) Gardians Of Luna, The New Biker Mice From Mars Series (also planned), Oban Star Racers, Chaotic (from Demark-Card Game) etc. The animators from the two major Animation schools in Italy and France (and Ireland) are starting to be looked at by the American companies and they feel they have a better fit with those productions than a Japanese one. Thats all I was trying to say.

hmmm, fine..comics are big in france for sure...though manga is probably the biggest stuff there...as is anime...most of that stuff you listed though...is very child orientated with little scope for enjoyment among older viewers...certainly incomparable to something like one piece..I also dont think they are a better fit...

:O @ spoiler. IT'S ON.

Calendar = AWESOME RAISED TO THE POWER OF AWESOME. :D

So some info coming out about One Piece's fate in the US.

I'll shamelessly quote the main points, but there are lots of links and other bits of background info on where this is coming from to be found here.

-First and foremost, probably more important than anything: Toei wants the One Piece dub to continue, but NOT with 4Kids. This opens up new possibilities that Toei may very well pull the 4Kids license and market it to other companies who are interested, or possibly dub it themselves with Cloverway.

-One Piece DVDs are not only being outsold by its manga counterpart, but also appears to be the least-selling of all Shonen Jump DVDs, as even Hikaru no Go is outselling it.

-Some Japanese represenatives at Anime Expo were apparently disgusted at some of the plot changes (namely dealing with the certain death of a certain character, involving dungeons), and would make sure to talk Toei about it (this happened several months before 4Kids announced their halting of the dub, apparently).

-Toei reps are surprised at the fanbase that the original version has, and that people like the original music.

-Viz has not been distributing DVDs for 4Kids, but rather, on behalf of Toei. This may be why the DVDs are so... different... from other 4Kids DVD releases (no 4Kids logo anywhere except for on the actual episodes, not very good packaging, actual extras, etc.).

Just give us uncut DVDs with jpn subs. A good translation too, plz. Widescreen would be nice too. :p

I'd buy the whole series.

What would be really cool though is One Piece on Blu-ray.... :o

F'ing glad 4kids is leaving One Piece alone. Look what they did to Sanji... plus they didn't market it good at all. Hopefully Cartoon Network, G4, or Adult Swim picks it up.

god damn!!!!!!!!!

Just got to the end of nico robins flash back arc....one piece has gone off the charts, this by far the best and most emotional arc, and cp9 are definitely the best antagonists....the drama between usopp and the crew was an excellent touch, and robins flash back is really the most emotional and developed....franky is such a great fit for the crew, already among my favourites....gear second luffy was also crazy...I was also very impressed with Ussops speach in the sea train to robin, telling how she couldnt leave the crew because luffy had not accepted her resignation...really, one piece is special

dammmmmmmmmmmmmnnnnnnnnnnn

manga ch 441 spoilers!!!!

Ace and black beard face off and.....ace is beaten down badly. Seems teach's devil fruit can suck in everything through a black hole technique, even logia powers...kind of a cheap beat down, but he sure has some power. His bounty seems to have been $400 million...Black beard, has a short future now...Im guessing his fight against luffy will be the most brutal yet, and luffy will give the hardest defeat yet in the end....it just doesnt stop

I can officially say that One Piece is my favorite manga/anime. It hardly disappoints and each arc grips you with its story. The crazy thing is that it keeps getting better and more interesting with the happenings of the recent chapters. So im wondering how Luffy is going to deal with BB and how or if he can improve on his gears.

nelsonroyale said:
hmm, maybe...somewhere it said that the combined bounty was {spoiler] $700 million [/spoiler]

Even if it was combined bounty, it would be 600 mil for Ace since BB doesn't know Luffy's new bounty yet but I'm pretty sure its from the earlier fake spoilers. The new transcript doesn't have that line in there

hmm, yeah I think it is fake...anyway, it wouldn't make sense, no matter ace strength, he shouldnt have a higher bounty than luffy does now...I mean they just took down Ennies Lobby...even for WB, dragon, or Shanks...thats huge.

Anyway, despite bb's strength, people shouldn't get ahead of themselves thinking he is the strongest or something now. There is a reason we haven't seen the strength of WB, Shanks and Dragon so far, as well as Mihawk for a long time. No doubt he is very powerful now. I am literaly shivering in anticipation to see him in a showdown with Luffy now. His rage will be immense. Actually WB is the one thats going to terrifying. I would like to see him take BB out.

Exciting times ahead me thinks

peace

I feel like it would be really cool if they had Luffy and Crew fight the fish people and we get to see a enraged WB go after BB head on. To me at least that would really interesting, plus I really don't think Luffy is up to it. As it stands right now, Luffy can't even hold a candle to Ace.

yes I agree ace is alot more powerful at this point, and he came out unlucky against BB, because of his rather cheap fruit...but I think we will see Luffy take down BB, not soon but it will happen...like any other Logias BB, will have some inherent weakness, and Luffy will obviously have a far superior physical ability than BB...Yeah, but I cant see him being taken out for some time unless it is WB...who Im sure is capable. Remember, the clash between WB and Shanks split the sky, and they werent using any special techniques

peace

According to the translation, apparently Ace vs BB is going to be a trigger to some great event, maybe a pirate war in the future?

effzee said:

Most likely Blackbeard will become more feared/respected from taking down Ace and Luffy/Whitebeard (Dragon/Garp/Shanks?) will want revenge (possible huge battle royal between the Emperor Pirates, Blackbeard, Shichibukai, Government, Revolutionaries, Strawhats). Though I think Ace will live through this somehow, but barely.

damn, I really do believe that as great as one piece has been so far, from here on out, on the second half of the great line, the series is going to elevate, in emotion, intensity, and epicness...again

huh? i didn't mean it metaphorically. he got a
piece of paper from Ace when they met... Ace said Luffy can use it if he wants to see him. Luffy then got Nami to sewn it inside his straw hat.
it's from many chapters ago.

yeah, I know I just thought
he might use it soon and that might bring them in contact with BB...luffy aint going to be pleased...and I dont know, I really like it when luffy gets properly pissed

ِLuffy can use the sheet of paper to call Ace? Where did you came up with that??

Anyway,
Ace said he will meet Luffy at the Pirates' Summit, which he means when he becomes very strong. So it's too early for them to meet.
