ِLuffy can use the sheet of paper to call Ace? Where did you came up with that??

Anyway,
Ace said he will meet Luffy at the Pirates' Summit, which he means when he becomes very strong. So it's too early for them to meet.

Chapter 159.

Also, "Pirate's summit" is a figure of speech, not an actual place.

I read a bunch of spoilers on wikipedia today, but I haven't read past where US Shonen Jump is... it's a crime that this series got fisted so hard on the dub release :\

any news of someone else getting the license?

442 is out and...
They seem to be in the florian triangle now and met a skeleton with an afro; Luffy asked him to join his crew and he said yes. :lol

wtf! :lol

I gotta d/l the raws for this.

443 has been out for a bit:
Brooke is the name of the skeleton, he is a potential new member now cause he's a musician. Anyways he ran off into something called "Thriller Park" and it looks like Luffy has decided they are gonna go after him

I know I'm incredibly late compared to those of you that read the scanslations, but I just finished the volume which ended the Ennis Lobby arc (I buy the HK/Taiwanese version). I was all sorts of weepy going through the last few pages in regards to
Going Merry's sea burial
, I felt kind of silly afterwards, but the amount of emotion it illicited in me towards a
ship
was very unexpected. This is why I love One Piece.

One Piece: 4Kids No Longer Holds the Rights

http://animeondvd.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/16163/

Following the cancellation of 4Kids' dub of One Piece (please refer to this story), some interesting developments have been appearing at the forums of One Piece fansite Arlong Park. Forum poster firecrouch asked Viz Media's Anthony Jiwa some questions about the status of the series at Anime Expo. (You can read his chronicles, spreading across several posts, on this page.)

To save time from all that reading, Toon Zone member Yash conveniently saved us the trouble by only posting the relevant information (which I'll lazily quote):

-First and foremost, probably more important than anything: Toei wants the One Piece dub to continue, but NOT with 4Kids. This opens up new possibilities that Toei may very well pull the 4Kids license and market it to other companies who are interested, or possibly dub it themselves with Cloverway.

-One Piece DVDs are not only being outsold by its manga counterpart, but also appears to be the least-selling of all Shonen Jump DVDs, as even Hikaru no Go is outselling it.

-Some Japanese represenatives at Anime Expo were apparently disgusted at some of the plot changes (namely dealing with the certain death of a certain character, involving dungeons), and would make sure to talk Toei about it (this happened several months before 4Kids announced their halting of the dub, apparently).

-According to FUNi reps, Shueshia is the company who licensed Yu-Gi-Oh!, Shaman King, and One Piece out to 4Kids. Also, FUNi's position on the status of the series: "Unofficially... sad."

-Toei reps are surprised at the fanbase that the original version has, and that people like the original music.

-Viz has not been distributing DVDs for 4Kids, but rather, on behalf of Toei. This may be why the DVDs are so... different... from other 4Kids DVD releases (no 4Kids logo anywhere except for on the actual episodes, not very good packaging, actual extras, etc.).

4Kids has completely removed all references to One Piece from their sites, with the sole exception to one part of 4Kids.tv.

Here's the info: onepiece.htm redirects to the main 4Kids page on www.4kidsentertainment.com/home/home.php

www.kingdofthepirates.com/ redirects to 4kids.tv.

The forums for One Piece on 4Kids.tv has been removed.

The only thing left is the following:

A section on 4Kids.tv
Image of Luffy on 4Kids page.

From a TZ poster at the recent NY Comicon

I went to the Chaotic booth at ComicCon and asked about One Piece. 4Kids no longer has the rights and apparently the license has now defaulted to either Viz or Bandai (there was some confusion). The people at the booth were actually pretty nice and felt bad that OP fans weren't getting uncuts already. They also didn't think 4Kids even owned the tapes of the original Japanese episodes, so either Al Kahn is a bigger xenophobe than we thought or a subbed version couldn't legally happen in the first place.

This upcoming con season is gonna be pretty interesting once everything clears up.

Wow...........

Ennies Lobby is now finally finished, and this arc has been incredible. My favourite in any anime/manga etc. It had everything and the ending has been incredibly emotional and intense

luffy defeating lucci was a huge step forward...merry return and demise was done so perfectly, and the next episodes should be really great: blackbeard, whitebeard, shanks and ace!

seriously not even berserk gets me as involved as one piece....the anime gets no love here

peace

Eh, this thread hasn't been updated in a while. Anyone still read OP manga?

I just caught up today and I gotta say, I think this is one of the best arcs in a while; mainly because the final matchups are excellent.

The Usopp fight was AWESOME and I think it's his best fight in the manga so far. Lots of smart tactics, introduction of new sogeki-king, and total badass finish. Plus just the scenario of the ghosts not working on him was hilarious and such a great setup for the match.

The Sanji fight was pretty good with two womanizers fighting over Nami.

Even the start of the Luffy vs. new Shichibukai guy was great, with the tactic of him going from below and kicking upwards.

As I've stated before, I wasn't all too impressed with the Enis Lobby arc and its fights. But this next arc has totally made up for that with me and OP is once again my favorite manga ever. I'm really impressed how Oda keeps thinking up original and creative fight parings, and original/creative fight tactics. Plus the comedy quality has never dropped and is great stuff.

Can't wait for the final Luffy fight in this arc. It should be good :D

I really hope Zoro stays down and Brooke takes charge in some way, cause Brooke is just too awesome to not surprise people.

no man the best bit so far has been

zoro facing a real challenge...ryuma seems powerful + OZ is going to be a real handful...did he do soru when facing the general zombies?

So like, after three straight weeks of watching One Piece, I've completely caught up (filler arcs were skipped). Can someone tell me where to find the manga and which chapter starts off where episode 324 left off?

I was pretty behind on One Piece and I just caught up now as well! :D Kinda happy and sad at the same time since now I have to actually wait for more episodes despite wanting to watch them so bad. Now for me to catch up on the manga..

324 episodes? Cripes. They need to bust out some OVAs or something for us newbies who want to try to get int this series. THat number is incredibly daunting.

It's worth to take on the journey.

I watched most of it on stage6 and it was worth it. Unlike other long running animes (Naruto, Bleach, Inuyasha) it doesn't have any boring or shitty arcs. Each one manages to be better than the last.

Btw, if you skip the filler arcs, you can cut out 50+ unnecessary episodes.

Thanks. :D

Looking forward to the next episode. I rather liked 324 as well since it did some looking back on how some of the other characters are doing a little bit. :) I don't think that's a spoiler. Lol.

It was actually good.
Yeah. I posted this in the Fall Anime Season thread, but I can just copy and paste it in here.

So yeah, after hearing the whole episode of the One Piece dub, I'm mostly really really pleased with it.

Luffy's voice still sounds forced and not very natural, but his personality is finally back at long last. They really nailed his CHARACTER, so hopefully Colleen can grow into the role and nail the sound too.

Zoro sounds damn good. Zoro was easily the most decent and tolerable thing in the 4Kids dub, but even then, basically none of his actual character was there. He was just "a guy." Here he sounds like the gruff strong man he is. An improvement, even though he was the character that probably least required improving.

Sanji sounds worlds better (which isn't exactly hard, but still). He's a little nondescript right now compared to his Japanese counterpart's extremely smooth and cool voice, but he'll grow into that too. Sounding good.

Usopp sounds GREAT. I wasn't super sold on him from the short clip that was going around, since he was basically 100% Krillin in that clip, but here he sounded great. Nailed the character. Nailed the sort of voice he should have. Awesome work. Best thing in the new dub so far.

Nami. Meh. I can't say I like her voice all that much. Something about her tone and acting bothers me. It's not like she's super bad or anything, though. I just don't care for it much. Probably the only member of the cast NOT improved from the 4Kids version.

Chopper is a little bit of a mixed bag. When he's completely calm and normal, he sounds a little girly, but when he's spazzy, he sounds spot on perfect. Kudos for FUNi also understanding that big Chopper has the same voice as little Chopper and not giving him some dumb "tough" voice when he goes big. Overall an improvement, though not as much as some of the other members of the cast.

Robin is another big time improvement. Gone is the accent, leaving simply a mature intelligent sounding adult woman. What a novel concept. Perfect.

Everything else was pretty good too. The name changes that remain from 4Kids will just have to be tolerated for the TV dub, but they'll be gone on DVD anyway. Overall, good work by FUNi. More or less accurate translations of the original dialogue, characters acting the way they did in the original Japanese, and voice work ranging from tolerable to excellent. Thumbs up.

If the series had gotten this kind of treatment from the beginning, the franchise wouldn't be in this pathetic state in the US.

I agree with you on all accounts. The only things left bad are the thing Funimation couldn't change (zolo/zoro and no sanji cigerette). I actually enjoyed the dub mostly.

I also listed some thoughts in the other thread, but just remember that they kept all of the original music (or substituted some honestly well done English versions of the opening/ending). Everything else was left in tact, even the "preview" of the next episode. Sanji didn't seem to have anything in his mouth at all the entire episode. I imagine they might have to change that when he lights up or put his fingers near his mouth, but it was better having a lollipop or something sitting there the whole episode.

No serious edits, either, besides the ones dictated by Viz and CN's respective policies. As Metatron said, even these will be gone for the DVD versions.

NotMSRP said:
So the DVD will have Zoro and Log Pose instead of Zolo and Grand Compass?
Yes.

There will be no version of One Piece that you can buy from FUNi that will have Zolo or Trace or any other 4Kids name on it. The TV edit, however, will have to maintain consistency with what 4Kids did.

Hrm. Overall, it's better but I actually like some of the 4kids voices compared to the new ones. Zolo, Usopp, and and Nami from the 4kids version are the ones I definitely prefer. Sanji and Robin are a huge improvement. Chopper and Luffy are about the same. Actually, Luffy sounds like a voice-a-like without quite as much exaggeration, hah.

It's really nice to have the actual music and everything back. Hopefully, the script writing stays solid. I've gotten used to some of the amusing jokes in the 4kids version, that's about the only thing thing they did right.

How are they going to do that. Revoice the sections needed just for the DVD?

Really? I couldn't stand the Ussop in the 4kids version while I thought the funimation one was actually decent

I only caught the beginning of the episode, but FUNi's dub is a tremendous improvement. I can't wait for their DVD boxsets.

They record the audio for the TV dub and the uncut DVD dub at the same time.

Yeah, I loved the 4kids Usopp. It had this really exaggerated tone that works for the character and had this very storyteller-esque sound to it. My only beef is the shouting was too exaggerated (general complaint with the 4kids version) and the serious moments were a bit hokey but the shouting could've been toned down and the original music with a bit better voice direction would've helped the serious moments.

Oh that would make sense. How many episodes are probably going to be on each DVD set?

At least the dub overall is way better. I could literally not watch the 4kids dub due to how groan worthy it was

I can't believe that I'm complementing a english dub work but damn it, I am impressed. Even the intro was somehow well done, a first :lol

I can't say this enough but the differences in the dub is made INCREDIBLY LARGE by the fact that I can watch an episode and NOT hear puns every few seconds. It's AMAZING

.... You LIKED the puns?

anyways, why did they even bother changing the voices for Chopper & Nami, the news ones are basically the same just a tad bit more generic.

I was bored today and rewatched some of Enis Lobby and the parts after it. I knew these series was great, but after seeing these parts I am reminded again of just how awesome this series is. :lol

Hmm, I missed the episode last night and I was really interested to hear the new dub. Any place I could see a clip of it or something?
