The last new IP to reach No1 was Dead Island back in week 37 2011 but you have to go all the way back to week 12 2000 with the first Pokemon game, Pokemon Red, to find an original RPG at the top!
It’s also the first game from independent developer 39 Studios (owned by baseball player Curt Schilling) in co-operation with subsidiary Big Huge Games.

Last week’s No1, Square Enix’s ‘Final Fantasy XIII-2’ (-54%), therefore has to settle for second place ahead of another new entry, Take 2’s sequel ‘The Darkness II’, in at No3.

Last week’s No2 ‘Metal Gear Solid HD Collection’ (-49%) has slipped down to No4 followed by two EA titles at No5 and No6 with ‘FIFA 12’ (-19%) ahead of ‘Battlefield 3’ (-29%).

Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’ (-10%) stays rooted at No7 and Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed: Revelations’ (-28%) has fallen down two places to No8.

Rounding off the Top 10 we have another RPG that has been at No1 with Bethesda’s ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ (-27%) at No9 and ‘Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games’ (+145%) has raced up the charts from No31 to No10 thanks to the release of the 3DS version.

We have a couple of new entries making it into the Top 40 with Deep Silver’s ‘Catherine’ at No 20 and EA’s ‘Grand Slam Tennis 2’ at No26.

It’s another RPG at the top this week as EA’s new IP, ‘Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning’, goes straight in at No1. The last new IP to reach No1 was Dead Island back in week 37 2011 but you have to go all the way back to week 12 2000 with the first Pokemon game, Pokemon Red, to find an original RPG at the top!

Hot dang potato pies.

What were PS3 only players buying last week? Both KOA and The Darkness 2 trailing behind the 360 versions chart postions.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Hot dang potato pies.

Indeed. Pretty good for Amalur :D

I remember we've heard about stock problems, big ones, for Revelaitons. Are they still present in UK ( I mean, in such a way to influence the demand along with an almost natural fall of interest... )

whaaaaaat, thats like actual games! What happened Brits?

How will I survive?! We could have sent each other... well..... fuck all. But we could have played... ...yeah, fuck all.

I'm serious though. I bet the demo put people off, it certainly did me.

Go to the OT and shuffle through some earlier pages. People loved the demo. Then go to more recent pages. People love the game. Sorry, but I think it's you... (but you deserve a second chance).

I can't be bothered to read the OT, it's basically people that were going to enjoy the game from the moment it was announced. There's also a contingent that would love any AAA release on the 3DS. I hated the demo, 2 of my friends had similar complaints and the sales figures are abysmal. I'm not sure it's just me.

Honestly man, I've gone out of my way not to mention how much I fucking hated the Resi demo. Perfect example of how not to do a portable game.

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
Unusually large position gap between the HD twin versions this week. Unless the entire top 10 is fairly close in actual numbers.

So let me get this straight: My mind is playing tricks on me to make me think RE:R is right up with my all time favourites REmake and RE4, just because I'm so desperate to play anything good/AAA on my 3DS?
Wait a sec I'll head this question over to Mr. 3dsBacklog...
Nope, Mr. 3dsBacklog disagrees.

The Game seems to be sold out in a lot of places, probably because of undershipment though.

No, it sounds like you genuinely enjoy it. Good stuff.

I would've bought the 'undershipment' thing until I saw 2 pre-owned copies on the shelves at the weekend. How are the figures in the US / Japan?

No.. I'm not big on RE and haven't bought the game but showed the demo off to RE fans and they were really, really surprised at the graphics and the console-like nature of the game. These are mainly console gamers who don't do handheld gaming much. I'm sure it sold people on it, but question is how many were keen on playing it in the first place and owned a system.

In Japan it's almost at 200k, pretty good. In US, it has been released last week, and it suffered undershipment due to the typo on the cover, since it went sold out also on Amazon and Game Stop in few days.

First, SSF4 and now RE:R. Uh-uh.

A kind of poetic justice to the "tests" that Capcom kept giving Wii owners in light of the success of RE4 Wii.

Yes, yes - gloating and all that.)

The 360 seems to be the console of choice for all RPG's this generation save Final Fantasy. Don't think anyone would have predicted that in 2005.

Well, Oblivion was one of the first showcases of the 360, so its not really surprising to be the WRPG console of choice.

A bad demo won't stop a game from selling, look at Kingdoms of Amalur. RE:R's poor sales (at least in the PAL regions) must be attributed to something else.

The 360 versions of FF and MGS are now doing better on the 360 in the UK? That's a pretty large scale disaster for Sony.

I don't see why Nintendo fans do this to themselves. Keep gloating about Capcom missing sales projections in the west instead of buying their games, watch how fast that support dries up.

Really happy for Amalur, the dev team and Schilling.

Came in to echo this. I hope it has some decent legs. People really should get it on PC as it runs well on moderate HW. It's an awesome new RPG with some minor flaws but has no other direction go but up.
