Speaking to retailers this morning, Nintendo Switch has sold around 80,000 units in the UK during its opening weekend.
That's double the number of Wii U consoles that were sold during its opening weekend (40,000 back in late 2013).
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-03-06-strong-start-for-nintendo-switch-in-the-ukIt's not as high as 3DS' debut, which was 113,000 according to Nintendo. Nor does it come close to the PS4 launch (250,000) or the Xbox One launch (150,000).
However, it is a strong and steady performance for the machine. There wasn't a huge number of units pushed into the channel (some units were sold out at major retailers) and the marketing and PR campaign was truncated and arrived late in the day. Retailers tell us that they were very happy with the launch and one store even declared: "Nintendo is back."
BotW behind WW and Twilight Princess is quite normal given the install base of GC
The WiiU installed base in the UK was bad to begin with, and it's now a dead system for a while. Not really comparable.
Hmmm way behind 3ds and we got an ambassador program not long after that launch, can see a price cut in a few months if sales drop off alarmingly.

Respectable results for a Ninty console in the UKThat's double the number of Wii U consoles that were sold during its opening weekend (40,000 back in late 2013).
It doesn't say 75% attach rate, it says 75% of all physical software on Switch was BOTW, attach rate is likely higher.Considering the 75% attach rate for switch i doubt it means a lot.

80,000 is not a good launch.

Kinda bad really. Switch is pretty much a 3ds successor as well and as such sees the market collapse by 40 000 units. If its a console it is up on Wii U by 40 000 units but below Xbox One by 70 000.Strong start for Nintendo Switch in the UK

i know it is not exactly comparable, but i am sure there are way more WiiU than Switch and considering Zelda is a must have for nintendo fans, i was hoping that those WiiU owners that still haven't bought a switch had bougth Zelda for WiiU.

You're probably right, Nintendo didn't officially cut wii u but not long after launch a lot of shops went nuts and were selling the core unit wii u below £150 while stock lasted, I really worry about the switch here Nintendo have been doing worse here with wii u and 3ds than most everywhere else. Not the same situation at all. It won't happen.
It is a good launch when it's in march and it sold most of the stock anyway.

Nintendo GameCube - 69,000
Nintendo DS - 87,000
Nintendo Wii - 105,000
Nintendo 3DS - 113,000
Nintendo Wii U - 40,000
Nintendo Switch - 80,000
3ds launched also in March. And I don't think there were stock issues in UK.

So...
Zelda had a 75% attach rate .. on switch.
Switch sold 80k.
60k. Zelda copies on switch.
78% sales of Zelda were on Switch
22% on WiiU..
Who can do the math? ;o)

PS3 did 165,000 on March.
75% is not the attach rate. It means for every 75 copies of BOTW for Switch, 25 copies of other Switch games were sold.
Double of Wii U? And Wii U launched during the holidays too. I didn't know Wii U launch was that bad.
