if so, is that something that you've traditionally been able to skip over?
Kind of. If you want the best rewards you need high S. Ranks, which usually involve females, but you can choose to not go out with any of them.
This time around it might be different. We don't know the full details yet.Interested in picking this up if it makes it to NA next summer, but I'm curious about whether or not there's a waifu simulator aspect to it and, if so, is that something that you've traditionally been able to skip over?
It kinda maybe looks like that could be a negotiation shot (though the X/Triangle prompt makes me think of all-out attack)...
Instead of having S. Links improve the level when creating from the Velvet jail (or in addition to doing so), they could be useful for either giving the same boost to acquired field personas (making them feel less gimped in comparison), or help make negotiations easier/less random.
Honestly a bit surprised that we're getting as much as we are given the new delay, but I suppose Atlus figured a good way to head off the 2015 issue would be with the increasing the information drip rate.

I don't think we will be getting any news for a long while after this. Not until next year at least. Though I would love a surprise announcement at PSX but that's just wishful thinking

I'm a bit conflicted on this since I went into Persona 3 and 4 completely blind as to who the party members would be.Look forward to seeing them announce more of the party members. One of my favorite things about the Persona games is how well they manage to flesh out a large cast of characters.
Gonna be great to see what GAF finds to hate about this game. Should be excellent though.
No date able waifus.

I'll laugh if the battle system has actual depth this time and people complain about it
man i bet Arsene gonna end up just like Izanagi
cool looking but weak af
hmm.some interesting things in dem screenshots.
battling personas? demon negotiation?

word, that sounds fine to me. so maybe 1 more persona game that'll be Ps4 and not crossgen. P5's gonna be my first exposure to the franchise. With much of the engine work done it should be a quicker turnaround but they're long to develop simply by their nature of being so wide and varied and always taking more time to polish everything up. So it shouldn't take 8 years for Persona 6 but it also should take more than 2 I feel. 3-4 years sounds about right.
In the meantime there'll likely be a lot of Persona games but not the mainline RPG kind, more like the titles that happened in between P4 and P5: P3P for PSP (which was P3 but with a female main character route added and a lot of work to make it run on PSP), P4 Golden (which added a lot of extra content and gameplay improvements), P4 Dancing All Night and supervising the two fighting games (P4 Arena) and Persona Q (the Etrian Odyssey-like dungeon crawler). P-Studio also developed Catherine during those 8 years. So they did a lot, just not a mainline RPG.

The Tokyo screenshots give me strong Yakuza vibes.
So I guess that last screenshot confirms the theory of having to rescue Anne at one point to recruit her.
Why? Just because she isn't in the party?
For that exact reason, actually.

Given how there's a sizable fanbase for Persona 3/4 that refuses to play the other Shin Megami Tensei games, I'll get a real kick out of Persona 5 if the game has actual dungeons this time around.

I dunno, it seems fairly likely, along with the whole stalker issue.
Then there's the shot in PV03 of her being held captive with a cross-bar in her civilian clothes, and suddenly, her persona mask forms.
While that may not necessarily indicate that she wasn't/isn't already a persona-user before that point, it doesn't seem...unlikely, just because it's somewhat similar to a P4 cast acquisition.
Besides, wasn't there a blurb about Yusuke being involved in the 'stealing hearts' aspect of the game?
Aside from the point about the dates I posted above, each character is shown freaking out before they awake to their Persona (and I don't mean tearing off their masks). You can see the protagonist himself being held captive in PV02 and having an epiphany before he awakes to Arsene, just like Ann does to Carmen.
Comparing party member acquisition to P4 is what seems fallacious.
He has particular ties to the story and its omnibus structure, potentially tied to the keys he has and the lock around Goemon's neck.
I see repeating npcs!!!!
I honestly don't care that much though.
If by having seen each character 'freak out' you mean only the protagonist? Seems a bit presumptive to assume each cast member is necessarily going to freak out as such, even with the overarching theme of 'fighting against their fate', and the realization therein.
Ann's 'freakout' is just her raising her head in determination...along with the possibly-related 'after' shot of her standing with Carmen behind her.
The protagonist also has a "moment of determination" as he raises his head before Arsene awakens behind him, right after his "freak out."
The quote also says he's tied into the idea of 'world reformation', which, to me, implies that he's involved in the aspect as a potential enemy (either a la Strega, or just to the players, not necessarily 'evil' in the sense of Nyarly).
Haven't see anything about the 'keys' he has, where is that from?
I know, I'm the one who wrote that quote. I'm the one who wrote the article. That's not the implication I took from it.
You can see Yusuke's keys in the OP. You can see Goemon's lock in scans.
There are too many assumptions going around, especially ones pivoting around what happened in Persona 4. What I'm saying is to not act as if they're fact based on so little information.
Is there a high school or college involved in this?
This is probably Atlus most ambitious game since SMT3, they are being extremely cautious with this. R&D1/P-Studio has an amazing track record, the delay sucks but these guys have more than earned our patience.
