So haven't been following this super closely, but we don't know most of the new characters introduced nor their persona names yet, right(minus hacker-chan I guess)?

The only characters names I know are.... Ryuji, Ann and Morgana. I don't know anybody else's name.

This week in the magazines (Dengeki - Famitsu) we get our answers.

And actually Sakura name was kinda a lucky find since is hinted in the trailer.

I've been trying to figure out what Punchy's Persona may be. Her mask made me think the Man in the Iron Mask but not sure if that really fits the whole picaresque hero thing (then again, the Necronomicon sure bucks that trend). And from some of the shots of her persona as a bike, kinda thought an Iron Maiden, though I'm not having much luck finding places its used in literature (turns out if you google "Iron Maiden in literature" you tend to get stuff like "stories where Iron Maiden songs are referenced").

When does Famitsu/Dengeki come out?

I made a promise to myself that if P5 gets a LE, I will buy it. I look forward to fulfilling that promise.

We have Sakura, but hopefully the other names will be in Famitsu/Dengeki this week.

Officially, Wednesday (Thursday in Japan). Previews are posted on Tuesday, and we usually get leaks with most of the article details then too, although there's a decent chance we could get those earlier, so today/tomorrow.

Alrighty, good to know. Yay for leaks!

Wonder if one of the girls is going to be called Yuk-something like i say 10 pages ago hahaha.

Well, its a guy but we do have Yusuke.

Come to think of it, a number of Y-names. Yosuke, Yusuke, Yu, Yukari, Yukiko...

Went through that Tumblr from earlier and I really like that artwork. I especially like the long haired Naoto ones. She looks great with the long hair/kimono.

I'm putting this in spoiler tags, because it's speculation related to P5's endgame. P4 spoilers too.

The enemies in the castle are level 3, and the party has 100-150 HP. The enemies in the painter dungeon are level 11, and the party has around 150 to 200 HP. Another shot of the painter dungeon shows level 20 enemies, with the party having roughly 200 to 250 HP. In PV4, the party has around 350 to 450 HP during the casino sequence. The protagonist in PV2 has about this much HP fighting solo. In the space station dungeon, the party appears to have 300 to 340 HP.

For comparisons sake, Shadow Yukiko in Persona 4 is level 15, and most parties have about 200-250 HP for their characters. In contrast, fighting the murderer in Persona 5, the party has an average of about 450 to 550 HP. The murderer is level 73.

From this, I can conclude that there are probably two more dungeons after the Casino. Unless they're doing some SMT IV style late game HP gains, in which case there could be as many as three more dungeons. Either way, this game is going to be one very long game.

If I had to guess at the dungeons, it's probably like Castle 1-15, Art Museum 10-25, Bank 20-35, Egypt 30-45, Space Station 40-55, Casino 50-65, Dungeon after casino 60-75, Dungeon after that 70-85.

Just really depends on if they'll do it like Persona 3 where the final boss is 75, or if they'll do it like Persona 4, where the final boss is 90.

Can you put a number of hours to that? Curious.

I do think it's going to be quite long, but that's just going off Hashino's comment about increasing the density and variety of things to do. You have numbers.

If I had to guess, based off this info and Hashino's comment that the game is longer than P3 and P4? 80-85 hours for the main game. Depends on when they decide the "endgame" is. Only god knows how much for 100% completion.

For the sake of additional comparison, what they've shown roughly corresponds to Heaven in Persona 4. And Persona 4 had two (three with Golden) more dungeons after that, as we know.

Casino looks like a pretty important dungeon, but I agree that it's not the final one. I don't think our final character was shown in the group walking towards it in the near final scene.

I can't tell if that boss with the shoes walking on those golden sculptures of people was in the casino or not, it sure looked like he was. He seems really final to me, given that he's walking on "people". That's some straight up symbolism right there.

Anywho, part of me wonders if there will be multiple regular battle tracks. We have several songs that work for it, honestly.

That's about what I'm guessing, myself. It's probably this Vs. The Witcher 3 for longest game this generation.

Well, I think the Casino is probably a significant turning point in the story. Like, it's not the endgame, but I bet it signals where the final third of the game begins at. Observing the animated cutscene closely the Casino appears to be taunting the protagonists, as you can see "Death to the Loser" and "Guilty or Not" as signs around it.

The basic layout of the dungeons appears very similar to Persona 4, at any rate. Except just on a much bigger scale, what with multiple objectives and such.

I dunno if it'll be as long as The Witcher 3, but the main game will definitely have meat to it.

Important to note: I didn't see Morgana in the group heading towards the Casino.

In the first screencap, in this album,
There's Ryuji's shoes, and an unknown pair of boots. There's no Morgana in the next shot (unless she's in regular cat mode I guess?) and it's hard to tell who the person in the unknown boots' posisiton is.

I see Morgana and Mystery Man in that second screen shot. Mystery Man is just in front of Punchy, and Morgana is in front of Futaba (around her knees).

smh

The game should prohibit you from entering the canon name until at least X amount of months have passed

DON'T BE LAZY. REACH INTO YOUR INNER WEEB AND CALL FORTH WHAT IS WITHIN

Anyway, gonna name my protagonist Yamauchi Kida.

Seems like characters in JP thief stories are literally named "Kaito" so often, that's definitely the surname I'm going with.

Never use the canon name anyway (except for Q for the other MC you don't play as. Well, sorta. I think due to the character limit it ended up being Minato Arisat (I prefer that to whatever the movie's name is) and Yu Narkmi, heh).

Kaito, or 怪盗, usually means "Phantom Thief" or "Mysterious Thief"

Though apparently it can also be a surname if written differently?

I'm gonna stick with "Erik Leroux" unless any sort of canonical name appears. The literal Phantom of the Opera + The last name of it's author.

Ah, I should probably find the proper spelling. "Freddie Kaito" is what I'm going with currently.

Phantom of The Opera though, that's clever.

I find that if I can't create my own character, then it's difficult to assign that character my own identity. Especially if it's a male character. At the same time, the lack of a canonical name means I basically must roleplay it, which I usually do on a lot of similar RPGs (Like Elder Scrolls) on my second playthrough anyhow. So coming up with creative names is fun, even if I'd prefer a canonical one.

With this game clearly being more interactive with puzzles and platforming,I definitely see there being a few pseudo-dungeons that exist outside of Palace, similar to how some were in Persona 3.
love hotel, train, etc

So,that will probably add extra length to the game as well, not to mention that stat building and mini games actually have player agency this time around, gotta actually have a bit of skill this time rather than just select right choice and watch the event take place.

Wait, aren't the casino and pyramid already outside palace? Or maybe I'm confused but I remember seeing the cast questioning what happened to their school, and it using transformed somehow. Is there a conventional dungeon in this game? Its 1am, im too tired to think straight. Haha

It's probably not that literal a construct. Should effectively be an alternate dimension. And I bet it's like P1+2 where the seperate realities sort of blend into each other. That would explain in part how normal people know of the groups actions.

We can still enter a name for / rename the P5 protagonist right =_=" ?
Seeing as he's listed as "Hero" on the website, I would assume so.

I'm thinking about going with Tsubasa because of Arsene's huge wings for a first name. I'm considering using some incredibly common last name because I like the idea of protag being viewed as remarkably ordinary. I also considered using names inoving the character 修 because I like the irony of his name meaning discipline. So like Tsubasa Nagayama or Shuji Ito or something.

Heh, I wish I could appreciate the intricacies of JP names/kanji. I didn't realize that was what you meant Sophia, but yeah, seems "Kaito" is a given/surname if you use alternate kanji to the ones used for "phantom thief".

Anyone going to import?

I suppose i go with the name Ryo Kirito for my MC.

Ryo for Ryo Kanzato from Trinity Soul and Kirito for Kamui Kirito from Psycho Pass.

I could use Kamui Kanzato too, but remind me to the Fire Emblem IF MC.

I'll probably name him Buffy Summers like I do every nameable protagonist. The high school setting in Persona makes it more fitting than usual, now it just needs vampires!
