Another thing: The "special guest" for PSL must be the phantom. It matches up taking the ad into consideration.

I wonder if they're planning some elaborate stage act.

Which would make sense of the game is taking inspiration from Phantom of The Opera!

MC unleashing his inner Joker looks great, he should really keep the glasses off.

I doubt they would reuse the exact same shadow/inner self concept from P4 though, wonder what Joker MC's deal is.

Oh I've played DDS(easily best work by Meguro). Honestly, in regards to the gameplay and story changes I'd like to see in P5, this stuff is pretty low on the list. I just find it funny because the characters wearing masks to transform is exactly what I said should happen on /v/ years back. It doesn't really mean anything(especially since we don't even know if that's what's going to happen), but it made me smile to see those ideas again.

That newspaper ad has a great vibe. I'm definitely predicting the cast donning their domino masks to release their personas; it makes perfect thematic sense to me. Release those inhibitions and let your freaky fabulous monstrous side out... and shoot lightning and shit!

Persona is the best.

The "phantom" gives me a vibe that the 14th event is more like....a tease about the concept of the story and its themes. Some anime footage introducing this character and maybe tying him to shadows or a shadow world entry method (e.g masks functioning like midnight hour or tv travel.) A trickle of P5 story info leading to more speculation.

That's stuff I'm sure I'll be hella interested in when I play the game, but footage or a date is infinitely more important to me right now. It's just...for the last 7 years or so I've been expecting to see this game in action and being let down, to the point where now I expect anything but.

Haven't been paying attention to the whole live show aspect of this event, but are they streaming the Super Live event anywhere? Given the ad, seems likely we'll get some P5 stuff at least hinted there. Also, it'd just be awesome to see that live music event.

I thought P4 kind of deviated too far from the pseudo-psychological-circa-mysticism of the other games, only really acknowledging it on a surface level with the Shadow selves, so seeing the mask theme, and the game being about the faces we put up in public, gives me hope they'll have more of a psycho-social focus.

Eh, I think it's just that persona 4 is a lot more positive about those aspects.

Thanks. I missed the newspaper ad by an hour because I was taking a nap (should have known something like that would happen) but, other than that, I've been trying to keep everyone as up-to-date as possible, while updating the OP for those who aren't following everything too closely.

Another kudos from me, great job.

Oh my god, going to sleep, with some luck I will sleep 9 hours. I want the announcement now!

I'm afraid of that too since we didn't get any Dancing all night gameplay (yet) either, so a more significant gameplay reveal like P5 seems unlikely.

Also, holy shit, your username has me in stiches. Fucking genious.

Whoa, like, a Persona is just like a mask we wear to hide our true selves.

Deep.

literally the entire basis of the series

The series is called "Persona."

Is like is the main theme of this games...

I know there's sarcasm and whatnot involved here, but in general, the speculation that the theme of P5 is going to be represented by literally the physical form of the core series concept is making me smile. It reminds me of the mayhem on the internet when it was revealed that Skyward Sword's logo was literally the Hylian Crest.

Persona 3 was way worse about not giving a fuck about the psychological aspect of the series.
They don't even talk about Shadows being part of the psyche until The Answer.

What? If you talk to the S.E.E.S team during some nights they even mention that their personas are formed by their personalities. It wasn't something that was ignored till the end, the only thing S.E.E.S didn't know is how they even got personas in the first place. Meaning they don't know who Philemon even is at all.

And Skyward Sword ended being a
prequel
. So still dunno the sarcasm...

Wasn't that part explained by the whole apathy syndrome thing and how it will cause the end of the world?

Saw this on Tumblr, take this as you want.
My mind's telling me no.
But my body...
My body is telling me yes!

They acknowledge that the Personas are based on their personalities, yes, but, for instance, the only system in the game that fits the Jung metaphor of "Personas are the masks we wear among different people and in different situations" is that Social Links level up more if you have a Persona of the corresponding arcana. One thing P3 did that really hurt the psychological metaphor - and P4 as well, by virtue of carrying over this system - is the whole "only the protag can change Personas at will" mechanic, which flows totally against the whole "everyone has different sides to them" theme. Not to mention the thing I spoiler'd. The Jung stuff in P3 is suuuuper surface level and poorly done compared to, say, Persona 2, and Atlus knows it which is why The Answer retroactively tries to fix at least some of it.

But here is the thing, the persona 3 cast didn't change their attitudes much. So there wasn't much need for switching personas alot.

Whats everyones opinion on Mcdonald-chan from dancing all night? Like from a design point of view.

This character?

star pupils.

I don't know. I like her design more than other additions like Marie and Sho Minazuki. But she's not what I imagined coming from the description in Rise's social link. Maybe I'll have a better opinion when I see the character model.

True, I imagined her more like Rise but you have to remember that's her P4D design, in which every character has ludicrously overstylish outfits. In the original anime she looked like this:

Err, they kind of did. It's what causes their personas to transform.

But the base of their personalities didn't change much it just evolved in a straight manner. P1/2 had points where the character's personalities could change drastically, so it made sense for multiple personas.
